Remember we are in Nigeria where nothing is what it seems but then i will suggest they first represent NYSC worth instead of throwing away the bill (the baby with bathing water). |

The people who are here commenting that the legislators are fools, I wonder who is more foolish? How can you people believe such crap. Thumbs up to the legislators! This would have just been another avenue where the proponents of this bill would have ripped the nation off billions of naira just for a so called 'Monthly allowance' for the un-employed youths. Be wise Nigerians! Be wise...don't be so gullible! 1 Like |

asidere: naija has enough money to cater 4 the unemployed but corruption will not allow this bill to work. I dont like the idea of paying graduates money rather i suggest graduates go and acquire skills that can make them productive to this country.lets create a forum where graduates can meet and rub minds, network and form partnership.lets create an interactive website for graduates.lets join forces together and make our lives better than relying on government.this partnership can lead to us setting up companies and employing other people.my brother i believe you 100%, i believe every one including grads can be gainfully employed. but the evil leaders with their decomposing, putrid, demented skulls will not allow it happen because they dont believe its possible, they believe lack of infractructure, eppileptic power, suffering and the likes is normal!!! |

tonididdy: Hmm...i smell ''ghost graduates''But on a serious note, this was a great idea.just to avoid graduates collecting the fee for life even after they've got jobs they shoùld have a time frame.unemployed graduates will get the fee for the next 2yrs,if after 2years they still havent got a job, then the graduate should be able to start up a buisness with what he has got over the 2year duration |

Why are some people saying this is just an avenue to channel this funds to their pocket as if they don't have other avenues? Believe it or not, this people have more than a million ways to channel our money to their private pocket. All they just wanted to do is to give the unemployed graduates at least 30% of the loot and pocket the remaining 70%. But since you guys still subscribe to this view. I will tell you guys to watch on and see how this people will divert these funds into their pocket. A very good example of this diversion are 1 creating committee and standing committees in the house which we pay for, whether they work or not 2. The good governance tour is another huge debt burden on us. 3. Sitting allowances on every sitting God will help us. |

Re: Bill On Allowance For Unemployed Graduates Rejected by AdeniyiA(m): 4:05pm On Feb 28, 2013 |
why wont they oppose such motion,it might lead to the reduction of their sundry n ridiculous allowances. if we av a responsible govt, they are meant to take care of d unemployed, dis will in turn drive them to create jobs thereby lessening there expensives because an employed graduate will definitely contribute to d devt of a country. the bottom line is our govt has failed, lacks focus n insights, inconsiderate ,selfish,n shortsighted |

But you must agree that the amount they can fritter from any 1-3 you listed above is no where near the allowance for unemployed graduates will be. I mean we are looking at potentially one of the most effective and efficient means of fattening personal accounts with diverted funds. We are still reeling from the petrol subsidy and pension fund fiasco, both of which arose from systems expected to have reasonably reliable checks and balances designed forestall the kind of that monumental fraud that took place. One can only imagine what would happen in this case. |

Re: Bill On Allowance For Unemployed Graduates Rejected by racetrack: 4:41pm On Feb 28, 2013 |
The bill if passed would duplicate an existing bill This bill should have been ammended to incorporate the existing bill., Somehow it got through the cmmittee to the floor for a vote. The hours wasted should be a deduction in their salary for scheduling a vote on an existing bill. This bill if passed could be another jackpot for the officials responsible for its disbursements. There is no reliable data to effectively disburse the allowance, thus the purpose of this important scheme may be abused. |

Re: Bill On Allowance For Unemployed Graduates Rejected by doofanc: 5:01pm On Feb 28, 2013 |
Hmmm My colleagues and I have been debating this issue at work and someone brought up an interesting point. What about NYSC, he asked? How different is this from what is being proposed? According to him, as long as we are talking about graduates, and not any unemployed Nigerian, it shouldn't be too difficult to verify the actual number of those that should benefit. It is assumed they all would have graduated from a registered tertiary institution, and just as NYSC get its names directly from the school, the same could apply to the bill. Strong points, but I'm still very skeptical; we are unpardonably, insufferably and demonically too infused in corruption for this programme, with our current structure, to work and benefit only those intended. My heart goes to the unemployed graduates out there, but this bill in truly ill conceived. |
