The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost the two polling units inside Sir Kashim Ibrahim House (Government House ) in Kaduna state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Isa Ashiru Kudan, won polling units 014 with 77 votes while APC’s Uba Sani that scored 40 votes.

The Presiding Officer, Mohammed Baso, announced that Labour Party scored 0. PRP 1, NNPP 1, adding that 7 invalid votes were recorded.

At Polling Unit 013, still in Government House, the PDP polled 69 votes against the APC which scored 64 votes.

The Presiding officer, Kalu Kelechi Micheal, said the LP scored 8 votes, PRP 01, NNPP 01.

Unfortunate about the numbers in Kaduna, but also expected, furthermore this just further demonstrates how free, fair & credible this election was.

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is winning in 18 out of the 23 local governments announced so far in Osun state.

His closest rival, Bola Tinubu won in five local government areas of the state

Atiku leads in Boluwaduro, Ifedayo, Ila, Odo-Otin, Irepodun, Orolu, Ede-North, Ede-South, Ife-South, Ife-North, Ola-Oluwa, an Ayedire local government council areas.

Other local government areas, where the PDP candidate won, include; Obokun, Oriade, Atakumosa-East, Atakumosa-West, Egbedore, Ilesa-East and Ilesa-West.

Meanwhile, APC’s Bola Tinubu won in Osogbo, Olorunda, Ife-Central, Ife-East and Boripe local government areas with wide margins.

Labour party comes a distant third in the results announced so far by collation officers across local governments in the state before the State Returning Officer, Professor Tolulope Ogunsola of the University of Lagos.

Also, Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been returned elected as the representative for Ife federal constituency.

He polled 53,078 votes while APC’s Adereti scored 51,051.

The Presiding Officer, Prof Abdulfatai Makinde, announced the result at Ife Central Collation centre at Oluorogbo Middle School 1, Road 7, on Sunday, in Ile-Ife.

Former Minister of State for FCT, Hon. Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, has won her Polling Unit for Atiku Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At the polling unit, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of All Progressives Congress (APC) polled a total of 59 votes, Atiku secured 102 votes, while Peter Obi of Labour Party and Rabi Musa Kwankwaso of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) both scored seven and zero votes respectively.

With just two days to the presidential and federal parliamentary elections, a police detachment numbering about 30 has arrived at the INEC headquarters office in Lagos to beef up security around the facilities.

The operatives, fully armed, arrived INEC office on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. with their weapons and luggage, with INEC busy loading Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in trucks to various local government areas in Lagos.

The police officers, upon arrival, began chanting various songs to announce their arrival for election duty.

INEC in Lagos on Wednesday took delivery of sensitive materials for Saturday’s presidential and parliamentary poll from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The commission had also begun the distribution of the materials to the 20 local government areas of Lagos.

The presidential and federal parliamentary elections will be held on Saturday.

YOLA – In a dizzying political move just barely three days to the presidential election in Nigeria, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has collapsed it’s North-East Structure into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and declared support for the Presidential canditate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

In a stunning move that caught the attention of the country, some elements within the
SDP, also declared support for the Governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who is seeking reelection.

Leading the defection is the North East zonal chairman of the party, Mr. Danjuma Chikel, who said at a press conference in Yola that the party took the decision after a thorough assessment of the chances of their own candidates across the North East region in the forthcoming general elections.

In Adamawa state, 22 out of 34 Working Committee members of the party and 17 of the 21 local government Chairmen dumped the SDP during a meeting with the state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Tuesday in Yola, the state capital.

Leader of the delegation, Danjuma Chikel who is the Vice Chairman Northern Zone of the SDP decried the difficulty imposed on the masses by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration and restated their decision to work for the victory of Atiku Abubakar as President.

“We have decided to join the winning team by collapsing our structures to support Atiku Abubakar and Governor Fintiri,” Chikel said.

He pledged that the decampees will mobilize massively for the victory of all PDP candidates tasking his followers to enlighten their supporters in the grassroots to vote for the party and not the SDP.

Responding, Governor Fintiri thanked the defectors for taking a bold decision in the interest of the country and the state, assuring them that they will not regret it.

He frowned at the challenges bedeviling the country at the moment, saying the Atiku project should be for the good of the country, calling on the defectors to come out en masse on election day to vote for all PDP candidates come Saturday 25 February.

The SDP Adamawa State Gubernatorial candidate Dr. Umar Ardo, and other top echelons decried this development.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it is working with intelligence and security agencies to arrest and prosecute purveyors of fake news that the bank is reissuing and recirculating old N500 and N1000 notes.

The apex bank disclosed this on Tuesday shortly after first lady, Aisha Buhari, shared the fake news that the CBN had been directed by her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, to reissue and recirculate old “N200, N500 and N1000 notes”

“The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been drawn to a FAKE PRESS RELEASE purported to have emanated from the Bank to the effect that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reissuance and release of old N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender in the country.

“The Bank is working with the law enforcement agencies to investigate, apprehend and prosecute the purveyors of this fake news,” the apex’s statement reads.

The apex bank further said “for the avoidance of doubt, the Central Bank of Nigeria reiterates that in line with the directives of Mr. President, only N200 old notes are to be reissued and to circulate concurrently with the new notes. Members of the public are therefore advised to ignore this fake news.”

Mrs Buhari, an ally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, shared a fake press release attributed to CBN on her Instagram page on Tuesday.

The post has now been deleted. Her spokesperson, Suleman Hassan, however, told Peoples Gazette that he is unaware of the development.

“Due to the current and unpleasant situation happening in Nigeria, In line with Mr. President. After having a closed meeting with him on the 20th of February, 2023, Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) has been directed to ONLY reissue and recirculate the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes and this is expected to circulate as legal tender for 70 days up to May 1, 2023. Members of the public should therefore continue to spend the old notes,” the fake press release read.

Mrs Buhari sharing fake news comes a week after Festus Keyamo, APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) spokesperson, was called out for stealing a Chicago festival photo to portray Mr Tinubu’s campaign.

The military personnel provided by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor, for the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to prevent his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS), have not left his residence and office since January, security sources confirmed on Tuesday.

The Department of State Services (DSS) meanwhile said it had intensified its investigations in order to arrest and prosecute Emefiele, on allegations of terrorism financing and fraud, sources added.

SaharaReporters had on January 17 reported that Irabor meddled in the DSS investigation by providing cover for Emefiele, who returned to the country at that time from the United Kingdom and evaded arrest.

SaharaReporters also reported that the CBN governor headed to his office with massive security, specifically military protection, following his return to the country.

A senior DSS operative told Daily Trust in confidence that the soldiers provided by the CDS countermanded the DSS officials who went to arrest Emefiele at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

“Had we not stood down our officers, there could have been a shootout between our men and the soldiers who had cordoned off the area when the plane landed and escorted the CBN governor to his residence,” he said.

Security sources have also revealed that soldiers deployed by the CDS are still providing security cover for Emefiele both at his residence and his office.

“They are guarding his official residence and also escorting him to his office on a daily basis,” said a security source who wouldn’t want to be named due to the sensitive nature of the matter.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had spearheaded the move to remove Emefiele following pressure from the “cabal in the presidency.”

However, the anti-graft agency was said to have backed down from the move after selling to him (Emefiele) the dummy on the controversial currency re-design.

When contacted about the allegation that the military was still providing soldiers to protect Emefiele, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Acting Director, Defence Information, said that the military had always deployed personnel to man and secure critical assets across the country.

He stated that such deployment was not about a personality or individual, but about the asset, which benefits all Nigerians.

“What I know is that, we have deployment at the Central Bank of Nigeria and for other critical national assets. If you go to NNPC too, you will see our person.

“It is not only in Abuja here, we have such deployments, you will see that type of deployment in Lagos and other places where the critical national assets are located or situated,” Gusau said.

On his part, the spokesman for the DSS, Peter Afunanya, when contacted, declined to speak on the matter. He simply said: “No comment.”

Scores of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Enugu West Senatorial Zone on Sunday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in support of its guber candidate, Barr. Peter Mbah.

The APC members set their brooms ablaze while embracing the PDP at the endorsement rally organised at the zone.

They described PDP as Enugu’s only hope for good governance.

The five local government areas that make up Enugu West Senatorial Zone are Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Oji River and Udi.

The defectors, who were led by a former acting Chairman of the APC in the state, Mr Gilbert Chikwado-Chukwu, declared their rejection of the APC, calling their action historic and the triumph of light and hope.

Chikwado-Chukwu, who spoke on behalf of others, said they decided to join the ruling party because of the good governance and massive infrastructure the state was enjoying under the party.

Receiving the former APC members to the PDP and handing over the umbrella to them, the chairman of the party in the state, Augustine Nnamani lauded them for taking the right step and assured that the PDP would give them all the privileges being enjoyed by members.

General overseer, Omega Fire Ministries, Johnson Suleman, has called on his members to vote for the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Pastor, who made the announcement during Sunday service, declared himself and his family “fully obedient” and revealed his background support for Mr Obi.

“My children, we are fully obedient, fully, hundred per cent; we are not those who make noise on social media; we work in the background, we support,” he said.

Slightly shading other presidential candidates, the pastor threatened his members, saying, “If you like vote something else, If you like go and vote nonsense, you vote insecurity, tribalism, ethnicity, bigotry.

“Me, I am voting Peter Obi, my wife, Peter Obi, and those that love me, Peter Obi,” he announced.

He further accused some of his friends of supporting an undisclosed candidate, solemnly for “what they can get” from him.

“I have friends across the divide, but most of them are supporting because of what they want to get; they know that who they are supporting is bad,” he added.

He also accused other presidential candidates of “destroying the country” and exempted Mr Peter Obi, saying he is “the one that has not destroyed the nation.”

Mr Suleman is a controversial cleric who often makes the news for the wrong reasons. He has been accused by different female celebrities of sleeping with them, though he has denied all allegations.

Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election is set to hold on February 25.
