I was hopeful that once educated Nigerians took over the governing of nigeria, things might change but I'm shocked somewhat now to see that the uneducated people in power are using the national wealth to buy the half-educated to defend themselves in forums like this! Wow, money can actually talk and BS walks...lol!

Corruption is massive in jonathans government because it is part of the total package apart from causing mayhem and chaos(insecurity) of the unseen forces to discredit his government...but he is the only nigerian president/head of state to be so focused despite the hatred and collective conspiracy against him..

dayokanu: Anyone that expected anything better from Retardeen given his antecedents is not being realistic

First Jonathan was installed by the corrupt politicians to protect their interest.

He has never excelled in any position before.

From his time as Bayelsa Deputy when he was Alams deputy stealing them dry or his reign as Governor where his wife was stealing the state dry

He has blatantly refused to declare his assets when his Boss Yar Adua did

Welcome to the Fresh air we voted since he had no shoes

Sometimes I wonder why people would expect a different turn of events from this present administration. A government that could not account for the over 4 Trillion naira that was embezzled during the subsidy scam, while maintaining a relaxed approach like we are talking about 20 naira. We are talking about 4 friggin trilion Naira !!!! of the nation's wealth finding its way into the pockets of some few. While we are still at it, I am yet to see anyone benefit from the proposed busses, but rather than sort out these issues, our dear President has his focus on 2015.

Well I am not surprised, because he cannot claim innocence while he was still the deputy governor. He cannot claim not to know about Alams' stealing.

Rather than facing the issues he would rather grant presidential pardons to criminals and amnesty to terrorists so that the corruption money would continue flowing without obstacles.

My question is this, what has he done with this present term? How has he transformed the fortunes of this nation if he has failed in his duty to guard the national wealth. For crying out loud, 2015 is still two years away.

Jonathan should be ashamed of himself.

I'm curious as to why there is no response to the question of your president not declaring his asserts as required by law!?

I'm told by some here his government is the most transparent...but no answer to the issue of his refusal to declaring his assert or have I missed the response or explanations for this?

People have said over and over again that Mandela of South Africa frequently stays in South African hospitals in his 90s but Jonathan's family have - it appears, a permanent room in German hospitals where they run to for headaches even after it was reported they have 17 ambulances in front of their state sponsored mansion...or are those Ambulances meant to rush them to state sponsored jets on their way to European hospitals to get Tylenol?

What is the response of their defenders to these observations?

Corruption has always been in the police, the federal executive and agencies has always been looting our money even before GEJ so how is that Goodluck jonathans fault. The same USA that labelled mandella a terrorist, you will always fall out of favour with them when you don't do their bidding. The USA government is far more corrupt than any other countrys Government it only depends on what you understand as corrupt. When you go to a country and start up a civil war just to have access and control over their resources is that not corruption?. A country that can sacrifice their citizen just to invade iraq and take control of their resources, the same they did in libya and sudan and every country that they entered will never know peace again that has always been their motive. They are now using Boko Haram in Nigeria to create problems no thanks to our northern elites and people who fall for their traps and no thanks to the islam religion which they use as a tool to catch more people to do their bidding.

If its taking more than a year after the subsidy brouhaha to indict the thieves, in your fantasies the corrupt individuals would be brought to justice?

If the FG wants us to take it serious, it should prosecute ALL corrupt officials, starting from Alams, Bankole, Gbenga Daniel. But of course, you and I know nothing would be done to these thieves.

Jonathan's govt is terribly corrupt and fighting corruption is least of their worries.

What US govt just listed are just a mere scratch on the surface of deeply corrupt Nigeria. The magnitude and rate of corruption in Nigeria is unimaginable.Every sector, all levels of government, old and young, christian or moslem, private or public, military or civil service, no area is immuned.

And this 'corruption' has caused untold hardship to the ordinary citizen and has triggered off survivalist mentality when there is no even a natural disaster in the land. Like mosquitoes, these few evil men&women in power are sucking our blood dry to satiate their unending urge for money and power. It is quite painful, and unless something drastic happens to turn the tide of woes (and deplete the numbers of these vampires) we will remain like helpless sheep without Shepard. What a country?

This is what we scream about everyday. As long
as PDP is in power, corruption will be the pastime
of Nigerian govt officials. What makes this govt
very bad is that it pretends and lies that it's
fighting corruption, but in the real sense it is busy
nurturing its seeds. People who feared to steal
before are now rest assured that you can steal
and get away with it. At worst, you get fined a
tiny % of what you've stolen. And that's it.

[quote author=Sincere 9gerian]Another BASELESS report from the US. The fact that the west has suddenly become very critical of the federal govt should raise the suspicion of every patriotic Nigerian. The US have been firing from all cylinders of recent. What are they up to? Does the US mean well for Nigeria? Is this all about the PIB and oil multinationals?

Yes, Nigeria has a problem with corruption and it is the RESPONSIBILITY of every Nigerian and the govt to solve this problem. We do not need a saintly sermon from US before we know we need to get to work to solve the problem of corruption. After all the US is not immune from corruption. Who has been preaching to the US on the need to stop immoralities like gay marriages and homosexuality?

Lets take some quotes from the BASELESS report and puncture them.

"Police corruption remained rampant. Reports of checkpoint bribery and shooting incidents decreased in February after newly appointed Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar announced the closure of all police checkpoints across the country; however, illegal checkpoints remained common in some regions. Police routinely stopped drivers who did not commit traffic infractions, refusing to allow them to continue until they paid bribes,”

This is like speaking from both sides of the mouth. The closure of unnecessary police check points across the country was an action taken by the govt to curb corrupt practices among police officers. Unfortunately, that action has to be balanced with the need to also check insecurity. Not all police check points are "illegal" as stated in the report. Even if the target of completly eradicating illegal police check points have not been achieved, PROGRESS has been made. If one takes a trip all the way from Enugu to Rivers in day time, you'll hardly see police check points (except inter-state check points). But if the journey is done in the evening or night, one would see several check points. I dont know whether these check points are legal or illegal but for someone travelling at night, its a kind of reassurance that the road is safe.

Again, if the govt has banned illegal police check points, it is the responsibility of citizens to report any check point that is nuisance.

"the US government listed the escape of the suspected mastermind of the Boko Haram 2011 Christmas Day bombing from custody, noting how the police commissioner, who aided the suspect went unpunished"

Yes, Kabiru Sokoto escaped. But he was later captured. The police officer, whose negligence led to his escape was dismissed. I recall the case was investigated by the Police Service Commission which later announced his dismissal. Can someone who was dismissed be said to have gone "unpunished"? Some of us expected more punishment and prosecution but the Police Service Commission is an institution set up by law and it is safe to assume they took the RIGHT decision according to rules and law governing the police. There's no point playing to gallery.

"former Delta State governor James Ibori in the Southwark Crown Court in London of charges of money laundering and other financialcrimes totaling N12.4bn, after he was acquitted by a Nigerian court"

It was unfortunate that Ibori was acquitted by a Nigeria court but that happened under previous regime. Again, the Judiciary is a SEPARATE arm of govt. Fortunately, the new Chief Justice of the Federation is taking steps to curb the impunity in the Judiciary. Recently, 3 Justices were sacked. About 14 Justices or so are currently being investigated by the National Judicial Council.

"and the N1.067trn fuel subsidy fund lost to “endemic corruption and entrenched inefficiency”

The planned removal of fuel subsidy would have put a final stop to the corruption in the scheme. Unfortunately, the fuel subsidy was only partially removed. Those who abused the system are currently undergoing prosecution.

"In late July, the EFCC began arraigning suspects, first with a group of 20 indictments, including six oil companies and 11 individuals. By year’s end, the EFCC initiated prosecutions of approximately 50 cases related to the subsidy scam. The majority of these cases involved companies and individuals who had fraudulently received subsidy revenue. Investigations and trials had not produced any convictions by year’s end.”

The executive has done its part by bringing the suspected subsidy thieves to court. The rest is for the JUDICIARY.

"It decried frequent abduction of civilians and lack of press freedom, highlighting cases, where journalists were harassed and beaten up"

Which journalist was beaten up this year? It is very uncommon in Nigeria of recent. I can only remember one incident in Lagos. To use this as proof of "MASSIVE CORRUPTION" is ridiculous.

In conclusion, the report is BASELESS. The instances given to support "MASSIVE CORRUPTION"..yhu are a big fool...for writing dis nonsence.

Coming from a Nigerian ,i wouldn't be surprised after all an average Nigerian that leaves the shores of Nigeria antagonizes the country especially with all that subtle emotional blackmail you get from your white masters and the new found freedom from wants and basic necessities of life.

The corruption y'all keep shouting about has always been encouraged by these western nations,......it's like a man that accepts loots from a thief and uses it only to turn around and call him a thief whenever the going gets bad.

FYI all the criminal bullish nations parading themselves as world powers should know one thing ,there were powers before them and they all fell and their case wouldn't be any different.....They can try as much as possible ,i can assure you that Nigeria will not fragment let them keep dreaming we'll only hurt but we'll not fall.

Guys, Nigeria's gone to the dogs. I don't have any hope, not now, not in 2015! There's absolutely nothing that gives joy in this shithole of a place. No light, no pipe-borne water, filthy roads, polluted air, insecurity.. It's endless! Even the smallest emirate -Ajman, with no oil can boast of steady light, pipe-borne water, smooth road etc. Look at Nigeria, a shame! Horrible place made worse by dickheads in charge. They keep inventing old, failed policies to loot.
When y'all drive home, look at those faces at the bus stops. They are SAD, ANGRY and OPPRESSED! Because the corrupt leadership don't give a fvck about them!

My brother, you said what was on my mind.

Imagine Nigeria where graduates are jobless, Master holders are borrowing money from uneducated. Professionals are useless. Medical doctors, lawyers are jobless, situations look hopeless all of these because of corruption and we have some shameless human beings saying ru.bbish here. I weep for Nigeria.
Kidnapping is high, armed robbery is having a free day and some people are saying all these. I am pained.

@fathai you are a bird with the same feather as Badluck nd his clique. No government is void of some corrupt practises but the question is, to what extent? You want to rub shoulder with the US government? Try nd rub it to the extend of the development they have achieved which Nigeria w'l not achieve in the next decade or more with the extent the effect of corruption is ripping Nigerians off their clothes. The truth is always hard to admit notminding from whom it came from. The fact is that Nigeria is heading to doom the way things are going nd it w'l not do us any good to support, cover-up or make excuses for our corrupt leaders. I regret sharing a country with so many ignorant nematodes. Americans invent the world corruption, fraud and ponzi and all nature of ills.

God save Nigeria from Nigerians. Politicians are looting us all around, raping the future of coming generations and some Nigerians will just lazily write on NL to praise these same politicians! Amazing!

This is not about America but about Nigeria.

Just last week, some two boys decided to kill 3 innocent Americans and they were picked up within a week. I dont know how many people are kiilled in Nigeria on daily basis and our Police cant help for whatever reasons. Yet, some Nigerians will sit and abuse the US for daring to expose our wicked politicians.

My best guess is that these people shouting on the US have been denied visa, so they are bitter for not being allowed to travel to the US. If we treat out country well, will people be qeuing miles long for US visas every morning?
