oga siena why did you say the thermostat shd not be remioved in any car. got an xterra last year and when i noticved it over heating i took it to a mech in lagos. a so called double radiator, thicker fan with more blades and the mechanism that tuns the fan was changed. during this process the thermostat was removed. though the over heating stopped, i still kept the original thermostat (instincts) dont trust the nigerian mech. i try as much as possible never to leave my car alone with any mech. sometimes your presence and lil car-know-how helps to check them. so back to my question. why not remove the thermostat? You need the thermostat to regulate the coordinated control passage of coolant through the cooling system. |

So it turns out my sense of aesthetics is not as good as I had always fancied... Will get rid of the rims, and believe me I've gotten a sexy replacement set... As regards car colour; I will retain the factory colour and also spray the black underneath (bumper and sides + sideskirts) in factory silver too. Roof tentatively will be painted gloss black And all the Audi chrome model badges/emblems (behind; and on the front grille) will be 'plastidipped' black. Wicked set of wheels (+ second bag of garri and sugar) loading.... |

t-die: Is your Double DIN Pioneer Sound system same as this "Pioneer AVHX8500BHS Double-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver With Bluetooth And HD Radio"? I'm also interested in purchasing one through your contact person... |
Re: t-die's 2002 Audi A4 B6 (3.0 V6) Quattro Sedan Restoration Project. by tdie: 8:13am On Aug 21, 2013 |
uboma: Nope. Mine is the Pioneer FH-X700BT- Its just a regular double DIN system (No DVD) though it has bluetooth audio, Ipod control; a USB Port and Handsfree telephony-I am not a 'Film' person. My contact can get the AVHX8500BHS for you though. He is into Electronics and gadgets preorders from the US. PM me for his details. I'm not sure he would want his contact details pasted on a public forum. |

I've been super busy, so haven't had much time to post here. T-die's Audi A4 B6 needed front suspension components, both front outer CV joints and of course, a set of 18" wheels. I've had the suspension items and CV joints sitting here, waiting to ship, but the wheels held things up. I found an OEM set of Audi 8"x18" wheels on eBay, and threw in a bid with 10 seconds to spare before the auction ended, and was lucky to win them. They have an offset of 29mm, so will fill out the B6 A4's arches a treat. They were delivered yesterday the 23rd August, but three of the wheels had tyres on them. So today the 24th August, I took a trip to my local Kwik-Fit, and had the tyres stripped off. Pictures will be uploaded later, and the lot will be leaving the UK for Nigeria on the 30th August, which is a Friday. This should complete this phase of T-die's restoration, leaving him with the task of choosing a new colour. His car's bodywork is in fair shape, so a re-spray in the same colour (silver) won't make it look much different, bar the side skirts and both bumper lower sections being matched to the rest of the car (currently black). We'll see how things unfold, I can't wait to see this project wrapped up. |

No new updates for now... I await (once more) the arrival of the ordered parts. In the meantime I'm reading all I can about fuel injection systems-have this very lovely book that I got some years back when I faced a fuel injection issue in my then. '98 Accord US Specs. Wonderful book- Haynes Techbook OBD II. I recommend this book to any DIYer (I'm no expert though, but the book is not too complicated even for beginners) I must confess its not easy on the pockets to be importing even alloy rims. Good news is that I'm still within budget, but only just. I don't foresee any other issues with the car though, and admittedly most of the repairs and mods I'm doing would still have been done even if the car was a tokunboh. As regards car color- so many options whirl through my mind. I realized that even if I do change the car color, it won't be much of an issue, even in the engine bay because the huge engine leaves almost no space for the original color to show through. Maroon red or cream white both with a black gloss roof come to mind. Meanwhile I'm following a brother, Shagati as he 'rescues' his Beemer. I encourage those of us who want to (and have the mind to) to commence on restoration projects. Its not as expensive as one would think-even if you have to import Original parts. Most times you'd end up with a fully personalized and modded vehicle at under the cost of the tokunboh version of the same vehicle. I admit that it aint easy though, especially with unforseen emergency repairs and bills (like my having to import alloy rims :-( ) Let's wait and see. Meanwhile any more color suggestions?? |

Suggested colours, OEM Audi: Ibis White. Laser Red. Indigo Blue Pearl. Daytona Grey Metallic. Nimbus Grey. Nogaro Blue Pearl. Polar Silver. Tornado Red. Panther Black Metallic. Irish Green Metallic. Ragusa Green Metallic. Crystal Blue Metallic. Alpine White. Flash Red. India Red Metallic. Gambia Red Metallic. Sapphire Blue Metallic. Misanno Red. Aqua Blue Metallic. Avus Silver. Sprint Blue Metallic. Inca Orange Pearl. Imola Yellow. Phantom Black Pearl. Pearl White. Lago Blue Metallic. Zermatt Silver. Europa Blue Metallic. Ming Blue Pearl. Santorin Blue Metallic. Denim Blue Metallic. Kingfisher Blue Metallic. Suggested colours, OEM Volkswagen: Mars Red. Dragon Green Metallic. Nugget Yellow. Atlas Grey Metallic. Lhasa Green Metallic. Oak Green Metallic. Royal Blue Pearl. Jane Green Metallic. Jazz Blue Pearl. Suggested colours, OEM BMW: Alpine White. Boston Green Metallic. Estoril Blue Metallic. Macau Blue Pearl. Dakar Yellow. Pearl Black. Suggested colours, OEM Ford: Imperial Blue Metallic. Moonstone Blue Metallic. Frost White. Imperial Green Metallic. Rosso Red. Sunburst Red. British Racing Green. Mercury Grey Metallic. Panther Black Pearl. These are just a few examples. Personally, I feel there are way too many colours in the world, to consider retaining the same colour on any automobile, if it's having a full respray. The cost differential between retaining the same colour, and a colour change are minimal, but the results couldn't be more different. A colour change will be much more satisfying. Given the condition of the car body wise, if the same colour is to be retained, I wouldn't splash out for a full respray. I'd simply get that body stripe removed, then paint match the bumper lower sections, as well as the side skirts. Any scratches can be blown in, the roof painted in gloss black and finally, the whole car mopped. But that's just me. |

As previously posted, T-die ordered a set of front suspension arms, (upper and lower) front anti-roll bar links, front outer Constant Velocity joints, and of course, a set of genuine Audi 8.5"x18" alloy wheels. The wheels - these are off a 2010 Audi A5: |

Somorin#1: Unfortunately no, I decided to go ahead with the combination of new and old pulleys. I would have ordered them, but considering that I am now running against time (my car needs to leave the workshop asap), and since installation would require another complete front end disassembly, I had to pass. If I had known for sure early enough that I'd be ordering the wheels and suspension items, I would have also added the pulleys and have them come in together before the engine was reassembled. I had the old pulleys evaluated by the Engineer though and he's of the opinion its still in a good enough shape. |

Oga Siena when you're done maybe you can help me find a Cooper to ship to my side. I tried but it seems brits have a different definition of rust free than us yanks lol. T-die, good work mate. |

Bro Somorin, are you referring to the Classic Mini Cooper? There are rust-free examples, as long as you know where to look. It's a specialist car, so the one you might find on eBay or similar are likely to be nails, and unloved. |
