Caveat: I have a foreign one, ...l carry it along just in-case things get really nasty! wink wink grin grin

But hey, there is nothing l enjoy more than flaunting that Green Passport.
I know they may try to give me a hard time for it (and some have tried a few times) but l give them such a raw time that it has become a thing of pride for me.

I do EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK....as they say.
I dont give any customs or immigration or airline employee, any opportunity to intimidate me.
But God help you if you try simply because l am carrying a Green passport in front of you.

Though l must add, l am very inquisitive, l learn a lot from others, l stay within the rules as much as possible and l am a staunch advocate of my RIGHTS... and you can bet l know my rights more than the average Joe Bloggs.

if some "Oyinbo Immigration" looks at me too much, ....l simply walk up to him (with my Greenee-P right in his face and ask: "Would you like me to assist you with anything Sir"? ..(with my fake, plastic smile of course)

Come and see as Oyinbo dey embarrass (color change to Greenish-blue or something! grin grin )
Most of the time, they are tongue-tied, not sure what to make of this impudent but smiling... black man! shocked

And you know Oyinbo can pretend very well!
They simply stammer, smile back at me and say "Not at all", hope your flight was okay"?

I smile back and say "Splendid" ....walking away at the same time! tongue tongue

One stubborn one at Charles Dulles International asked me back (after my well practiced routine!): May be you can help me?

I knew this was one of those bad ones that give Nigerians a hard time. wink

I moved closer and told him (with my fake courtesy smile as usual): I will be very pleased to help you if only l knew what exactly you were after!
(Try it, say stinging words and smile at the same time: I was taught by some wicked Oyinbo women, those sixty-something years Briticos, in those days when my wife use to put my little baby on her back in Public! Now l have perfected it back for them)

Ofcourse, they are careful a bit...and smart as well. They wont push their luck beyond the "safety of the law" since they dont know exactly who or what you are about.

He was not "after anything" really... he just felt he could intimidate me with his "glare" since l am carrying a Naija Greenee.

Lost for words, as he was not expecting "such a friendly reply" (they think we are all about 'aggression and fight-back'), he stammered and "wrinkled areas around his mouth" in what was supposed to be a 'smile of death' and nodded me-off his presence ..... l amplified my 'nice smile' ..with a wink to boot, and walked-off. angry angry

But God help me if l have any sort of contraband or comma on me that day!

Anyway, anyone can make themselves exemplary and immune to the harassment that comes along with carrying a Greenee, you just need to be aware, spanking-clean and not be in a hurry all the time (dem fit waste your time, just to prove they are in-charge at the airport)

Lastpage.

BTW: Has anyone noticed that even our own Airport officials treat you better if they see you with a foreign/Western passport? Damn! Even in my own country! angry angry angry

erico2k2: People just wanna talk cos they can,now have any of you seen a Pakistani passport, its exactly same as the Nigerian one except for the writing on it, now if two people hold the green P how do you know what country they come from if you don't physically inspect it in a close range?I'm referring here to the flaunting and hiding bit, here in the Uk, we all have our Bio metrics on our Passport as well as on our Visas or is this just a US thing?

Haaah! You mean any immigration official will pick a Pakistani in place of a Nigerian just because they both carry a GREEN PASSPORT?

We dont look alike in anyway, by any stretch of imagination.

No make Pakistan people vex o!

See for urself anyway.

Just based on my memory, I don't think I have been treated differently for using my Nigerian passport. But I do remember instances it appears I was being looked at extra hard by other patrons for carrying my Nigerian passport.
If you've not been harasssed or treated differently for being a Nigerian passport holder, then you simply haven't travelled enough...

My passports resides in my breast pocket. I do not hold it on my hands becos usually I have some other valuables tucked in the sleeves. I am not conscious of them at all. I put them where I think is safe. That is the inner pockets of my coat. I have never been embarassed , intimidated nor received undue extra scrutiny becos of my green pp. There was one occation I arrived at George Bush international airport from Frankfurt germany with luftansa. On arrival ,as usual people filed into the lines. The line for visitors, non citizens etc were very long. But the ones for citizens was very short , less than ten people. As usual my passports were inside my pockets. And was wearing native bowber and sokoto, with wooley turtle neck warmer underneath. So I filed on the short line for US citizens. Behold, this attending immigration officer at the counter shouted "this is for US citizens only". I ignored him, pretending I didn't hear him. He repeated the same expletive words twice looking directly toward my direction. At this time , there were about four to five people behind me. So I looked back to none verbally indicate to the people behind me , if the officer is talking to them. The officer was ticked, I could see him getting red in the face, vissablely boiling and spoiling for a fight. I just maintained my calm and paid him no mind. When I got to the counter I put my hand in the sokoto pocket and tendered my US passport. He was embarassed. I asked him what made him think I can't read?

Discrimination or not I believe its all about the individual holder. Maybe because of my personality. I have never been discriminated against Europe or America.
Funny enough some countries like Pakistan and I think Saudi Have green passports so why sweat.

The only other people who'd recognize a Nigerian passport apart from fellow Nigerian travellers would be immigration officers, who you'd have to present to the passport to anyways.

Hiding has nothing to do with being embarrassed by state of Nigeria. The ones who flaunt foreign passports do so for the benefit of other Nigerians (show off) and the ones who hide Nigerian passports suffer from inferiority complex.

jennykadry: ^^^^Lol, I remember going against my hubby and traveling with my nigerian passport instead of the blue one, the way the customs here scrutinized my passport on arrival .....I said no more, never again cheesy grin
There no way you'll be granted entry into nigeria without you nigerian passport except you have a valid permit on it. so next time enter nigeria with your naija passport, gerrout with the blue one. that is how we roll.

I said I learnt the hard way, point taken. I had no problem in Nigeria but coming back to my base from Nigeria was where I faced scrutiny. cheesy

I remember we once travelled overseas for vacation, I applied for visa on my green passport and got it, hubby was mad, those days I was been forced to get a blue passport. When we got into the country, hubby and kids just breezed through customs, my own? They took their time checking my pic on the data page against the real face presented to them at that time grin that was all the push I needed, I got back and applied for blue, I no fit shout cool

I don't flaunt my Nigerian passport and I don't hide it. Immigration don give me wahala before for Manchester airport with their silly questions/interrogation, I was tired so I caused a scene too.lol Before I open my eyes I was surrounded by police. Anyway the case ended with their oga at the top advising me to go get one EU passport since I am even eligible to get it from 2 EU countries. I said NO I wont. I believe these guys saw me as a psycho.

deeptesting: Hide my passport for what? What is my business with the smile or sh****t on the face of the immigration officers? I am a Nigerian simple and holds a green passport.I think kids have over taken NL....Like some one mentioned here it's inferiority complex that will make you hide your passport and flaunting your blue, red, gold or violet or whatever is just a show off, normal Nigerian mentality..
Oga, experience will teach u someday. There's no smoke without fire. If u haven't had an experience yet, then read to know what Nigerians face abroad just for possessing the green pp. Ask Americans y they hide their pp in Cuba, venezuela and in Russia n u can figure out what it feels like to be treated unjustly. I and 4 Nigerians where detained for 6hours in a secured room with 4 surveillance cameras and 2 armed policemen just because we have green pp. I see some innocent Nigerians escorted into airplanes n their pp seized from them. Some are constantly harrassed at airports and interrogated like criminals. This n more are reasons to hide the green pp to have peace while traveling. After all, our consulates abroad don't care about Nigerians in diaspora, so one has to be safety conscious

I'm actually embarassed to show to any other passport that is not Green. I tend to hide my Red passport as a matter of fact. But the guy that said "the your passport colour does not matter if you fly First class" hit the nail on the head.
It's not the passport, but the person carrying it that matters.
Those immigration officers look at you first b4 deciding what to do with your Kpali.
