The do you have a problem with bilateral economic co-operation with your neighbours?

Your response is quite strange.
Why are some people afraid of dividing this Nigeria that isn't working. And they don't want Nigeria to work either.

Even if we divide Nigeria, it won't still work. Like myself for example will prefer an Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta country while some Southeasterners will want us as part of Biafra. There will be war everywhere except the Southwest and North. Ijaws vs Itsekiri will be full blown while Ikwerre will be finding their foot in a fight with Okrika who will also be fighting Eleme. Infact Southeast and South-south will be in a long lasting tribal war and war for land and natural resources. The peace we enjoy is because of Nigeria. Middlebelt will be at war too.

If a plebiscite supports Republic of Orashiland, it should be. Its not anyone's business what happens in foreign nations. All the nonsense will just stop. The Igbo nation can win Nation's Cup in 5 years, and produce bicycle within that five years. Once Aba gets Nnaji's constant power supply there's nothing stopping them. Oduduwa children have everything to be world power, but in Nigeria everyone must develop at the same pace. And it can never work.

I Think being Brain Locked is the only thing worse than being Land Locked, Other wise how could anybody explain the case of some tribes men in Nigeria who do not want to Jump ship from the sinking ship called Nigeria and are fighting off other tribes who want to jump ship .

How can one understand tribes men who have one of the largest commercial coastal city states in Nigeria Lagos, an Oil producing state in Ondo, several states with large expanse of arable Land, well developed commercial cities in Lagos and Ibadan, very Large populace numbering more than 35 million bigger than 75% of the population of African countries,a fairly educated work force and business men, struggling to be a third class citizen in a failing country with crocodile tears of how they have been marginalized by the present regime and fighting off other tribes who want to leave the sunk ship.

How can one explain the intransigence of this group of people

Nigeria can only divide peacefully on North-South basis. Any other division beyond that, will lead to eternal crisis worse than Middle east.

Is this not a false prophecy? Most of the people in old eastern Nigeria lived together in peace under former eastern region, until the onset of the civil war when divide and rule federal people came in and brainwashed many people against the Igbo. That was during the early stages of the war. But you do not blame the people in the creeks because very early in the war, the federals captured those areas and the people had no choice than to follow the federals, and some even joined the feds and fought against the Igbo after the brainwashing that Igbo was their number one enemy.

Fact is that Okrika, Ogoni, Ibibio, Ijaw, Kalabari, Ikom, etc, etc, in the old eastern region have more to share in common with the Igbo than with any other tribe in Nigeria. Presence of commonly shared value systems is the number one requisite for nationhood in any country. Absence of commonly shared values has denied Nigeria nationhood.

This narrative of the eastern Nigeria being the picture of disunity is a fucking lie. Nowhere else in Nigeria has been as stable as south eastern Nigeria in terms of ethnic conflict. If we want to talk about ethnic wars, eastern Nigeria (and bearing in mind this is the most resource rich part of Nigeria) has been relatively tame if you do not include the late 60s which was mostly caused by external influences. The biggest inter-Igbo conflict in Nigeria cannot stand up to the biggest conflicts in other major ethnic groups, even historically we can't name any relevant major wars in the eastern region apart from the Aro-Ibibio war and Igala invasions.

Even during Biafra the state was run so well considering circumstances that it put Nigeria to shame, the capital was moved around the whole of the Igbo territory, so where was all the disunity then?

If we want to bring up a relevant argument against a Igbo-state or whatever then try something else, like the truth, I like my village group best, which there's nothing wrong with.

Igbos already have a small riverside harbour that smugglers use. Please who are the WE you talking about? All people along the Imo River understand Igbo, the language of commerce for centuries, and they co-operate very well. You don't seem to know the terrain al all.

ckkris: Is there any Ijaw-speaking village along Imo River? This man has never seen the Imo River.
See desperate men!
I understand Igbo too but still, there will be no access to the sea for Igbos. How does that sound? grin grin grin

You guys just have to come to terms that your post Nigeria fate as a landlocked people has been seal by God himself, He only put the keys on the hands of the Ijaws to put you where you belong.

At the vertical stretch of the Imo river, you have;
Ogoni@ the upper western bank
Ibibio@ the upper eastern bank
Opobo, Nkoro & Andoni Ijaws @ the lower western bank
Andoni Ijaws @ the lower eastern bank.

Which of these are Igbo people?
Which amongst them gonna grant you access to the sea?

As for those recalling a "happy & peaceful Eastern region", I'd say happy AMNESIA.

^^^Some quick fire questions:

*You seem gleeful at the expectation of Alaigbo/Biafra being landlocked with no access to the sea; care to explain the reason for your euphoria?

*Secondly, are you talking of Alaigbo being landlocked in relation to Ijaws/Igbos, or are there any ethnicities involved?

*Finally, you assert that the old Eastern Region wasn't peaceful. Could you point to examples of other peaceful regions that you would have liked the old Eastern Region to emulate, as well as site instances of such strife over the decades that you allude to.

Cheers. smiley

You have control over the govt now. Go ahead and split the country or forever remain silent like the genetic cowards you are.

They whine and complain everyday about actualization of Biafra but they refuse to leave SW and the North. Their destiny is in their hand if they can just decide to just go back to Alaigbo or whatever they call their Biafra aso rock. I don't know who is holding them down.

You guys talk as if the civil war was the first call for secession in the former Eastern Region. Before Biafra secession, the Ijaw Nation had an ongoing armed struggle to free itself from the evil grips of Biafra. What do you mean by Old Eatsern region was peaceful? Peaceful for Igbo perharps, but that's different from the experience of non-igbos in that region.

Quick FACTS

ONE: Niger Delta/ South South is a heterogeneous geo-political entity. During the Biafran war, this entity was split in their support for Nigeria and Biafra.

TWO: SOME IJAWS FOUGHT FOR BIAFRA WHILE MOST FOUGHT FOR NIGERIA

THREE: Other Niger deltas are very suspicious about IJAWs and this will become more noticeable IF a split ever Happen. (Ijaws have already shed blood of their neighbors and to be fair; vise versa).

FOUR: Eastern Niger deltans (Cross River and Akwa Ibom), Do not hate the Igbos, the trade and cultural exchange is strong and growing. In fact, it would be very short sighted and simply stupid for Akwa IBom to build Ibaka Port and refuse to allow IGBOs to import good from there. That will be Billions of lost revenues for the state/Future country.

FIVE: With global warming currently unchecked, Rising sea level is something all Niger delta Community would have to battle in the coming future.

In my humble opinion, I am not worried for Igbos being land locked in a country. If history is anything to learn from, then post Biafra war resurgence of Igbos should be a lesson for naysayers.

Chris OD,

Wake up from your Alice in Igboland fantasies.

A peaceful breakup of Nigeria will not happen unless the oil revenue is less profitable to risk life for and the various stakeholders voluntarily pull away from the center to form new political units.....either in the form of regional governments or a spin off of new sovereigns. As long the revenue is still worth dying for, it will take violence to split the nation into its units.

Let us assume we have a split, through whichever means. I want you to know that alaigbo will be in competition with your sister ethnic tribes in the East. If you go back into the history of the land.....there was a time when the coastal people resisted and blocked direct trading between the sea merchants and the hinterland people. That arrangement will not change. The coastal people will continue to opt to broker commerce between the sea and the hinterland. Giving you access to the sea will break their monopoly over the sea and take away their power.....unless they adopt an arrangement similar to Fashola is doing in Lagos; open the market, regulate diversification and impose heavy tax.

Interestingly you said they will give you access to the sea because you are allies. You never said what you will give them in return on the virtue of this common alliance, do you mind telling us?

Read every single post and the statement above is the most accurate.

To be frank, the only acceptable division of Nigeria that the rest of the world would support is a North/South divide.

So Igbos and Yorubas should learn to get along, because they are not separating.

The greed of ibos was never about access to the sea but the ND oil and ijaws are wiser today than when Ojuku unilaterally annexed them into his biafran fraud.
