bloggernaija: Retaliate with what and against whom.this bond reveals the president's lack of international political clout .
If he had one,all it would have taken is a phone call or cashing up on IOUs.
This was something OBJ knew how to do very well .
As we speak ,family members and girl friends of the political elites(those without a foreign passport) are probably prepping their £3000 bond for their next shopping trip to harrods.
So who is deceiving who .
that is the crux of the gist.

Nigeria should not reataliate on British citizens.Since they say we are visiting their country too much we should help them with these two things; 1 million Naira levy on every Student gaining admission to a British University and we should add a top up to the bond being suggested by Britain of £4000 to be paid to the Nigerian government. That way we should weed out those who have no real mission and the Nigerian government makes money too.Our government official won't do this out of self interest but I reckon this will bring them to their senses quicker than any action on Britons.Government shoult also consider 250000 airport tax on economy flights to Britain and 500000 on business class. All these measures should help reduce the numbers as the Brits want

3K mama shally under my foot. They'd better do and multiply that figure by 3 for any British visiting Nigeria for the first time, either on tourism or business purpose.

YeYe People. However I don't blame them sha, I'd rather blame it on our ill-functioning system, flibbertigibbet, egotistical and business-oriented lootilicians.

I am glad. This is good news. After all, what is good for the geese is equally good for the gander. I don't know what these western nations who are now economically sinking ships and are wallowing in their PAST glory are feeling like. Well done Federal Government!

gboss4sure:

Your hated for the president know no bound. So what would you say about the Presidents of the other 4 countries that the bond was imposed on?. This is a political decision based on the re-election of the uk's president do you really think a phone call could sort it out? By the way which Nigerian president has ever sorted any sort of issue with just a phone call. Try to buy some sense from the market and stop dragging the presidents name into every issue.

Their children are all schooling in UK cos they can't create enabling environment in our home soil. Y woud d president not ought t b blamed? Oh we shud be imposing d blames on ur father? Y wud u decide to live in such selfish socialist economy of uk if ur father hadn't failed us and still failin us. Wake up!

I'm confident that some day, they would come queueing to get a Nigerian Visa!!

as soon as your government gets the nigeria economy right they will up for visa cancellation cos they know you ant gonna go to uk for work or benefit, dont forget they are nigeria father, they ve been there b4 you. THEY ARE WISER.

HNosegbe: I never expected Cameron's Conservative government to backpedal with this policy. The move is clearly a political one to curry favour with his right-wing anti-immigration base.

Cameron doesn't really care about limiting immigration (it's a senseless move, really) - he cares about winning the next elections.

I would suggest that Nigeria liaise with India, Kenya, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on the possiblility of adopting a coordinated, multilateral approach to this issue. I think that would better achieve the desired effect than taking a unilateral retaliatory measure.

Meanwhile, what are we still doing in the Commonwealth?

intelligent, and brilliant comment by u. Let us bite some fingers too

Well said. Tax is the mainstay of their economy. You earn £30000 and your take home falls to almost £22000 then you have bills to pay too.
Nobody will take you seriously till you kick some balls!!! These people colonised us, yet they treat us like fools.

U are saying as if you know what other past foreign affairs ministers did during their own time, go n read Nigeria foreign policy in the 1970s you will see what ministers like late Gen. Joe N Garba did as a foreign affairs minister and how dat era has since remain the "Hey day and Golden age" of Nigeria's foreign policy.
So stop saying he is best FA minister since jaja wachuku.

cjrane: Otunba Gbenga Ashiru is the best Foreign Minister Nigeria has had since the time of Jaja Wachukwu.
Nigeria became a laughing stock in the world principally because over the years,Nigerians and the country's interests were rudely violated by many countries without Nigeria raising a finger to complain.

Until the South Africans were rudely surprised with the retaliatory deportations,Nigeria's foreign policy had lacked focus and teeth.
I'm glad the FG will retaliate this singling out of Nigerian citizens for humiliation by the Brits. If nothing were done, the same policy would soon be copied by many countries that wish to exploit the fact that Nigerians visit their countries in large numbers.

Tell me what is common in "Common Wealth" when we can't even enjoy the wealth in common. We must deposit to enjoy a common wealth.. No. 10 Downing Street has disappointed me.
I'm Dissapointed in David Camerone
I'm dissapointed in that Ed Miliband guy that criticises inhumane Policies for not speaking on this.
I'm disappointed in the Queen
I'm disappointed in the Nigerian Govt for not making home conducive for Nigerians forcing brain drain and making people go else where to seek greener pastures.
I'm disappointed with the PDP led govt since 1999 that I have to travel to london for steady electricity as I can't get it in my country.
I'm disappointed at our colonial masters cos even after you colonise, its ok u still check up to make sure ur colony is on track, Nigeria has derailed since independence like we should never have gotten independence.

Nigeria is like a kid when his dad is a home, he's calm and behaves himself, but the moment his dad walks out the door, the rascality in the kid comes to light and you never believe its the same kid under his dads watch.. Its either we need the Colonial master to come back and rule us or the Military takes over, we have plunged way to deep and the pit seems bottomless like we would plunge for life.

in as much as I laud the Minister of foreign affairs moves, its not about retaliation but about fixing this country so Nigerians won't have any reason to go to other people's land and get insulted for it, after all these people fixed their country properly and we want to go benefit from their good works. They won't close their eyes and watch us come spoil what they have built.. Hacking a British Soldier in broad day light by 2 nigerians is the worst form of Representation of Nigerians every where, the same way Lebanese people wants to spoil this country and we are not happy with the lebanese, the same way UK can never be happy with 2 Nigerians hacking down a British soldier in broad day light..

We must fix this country and make it the Envy of other because we have what it takes...

Retaliate the policy or not retaliate, we must fix this country..

When I was a kid and we didn't have satelite and video games, me and my brother always went to watch Power rangers and play Super Nintendo's in my Neigbours place, our parents weren't happy about it and did everything possible to buy us a video game and fixed cable satellite and we stoped going to their place instead they started coming to our place and we exchanged visits instead of the one-side trip we endlessly made B4 we had our own Video game.. Same also.. Fix this country and have infrastructure work and see how Nigerians would stay at home and watch influx of people troop to nigeria..

We must fix this country first.

I was about to say this too. This Gbenga Ashiru of a guy is the real deal. he doesn't take nonsense from these country that always want to look down on Nigerians. He has done it to South Africa and i can't wait for him to extend similar gesture to Britain.

You missed the whole point here Mr Man and i don't have time to explain to a dull brain like yours, Go back and read my first comment again. As for the father matter, Go ask your papa to join politics so that he will contest and i will vote for him so that we can see what your overall intelligent father has to offer to Nigeria.

And as a matter of urgency, i think Nigeria should seize to be a member of the commonwealth. Nothing about the wealth is common. It's just another avenue for Britain to keep maintaining it's influence on it's former colonies. Once the commonwealth is dead, no one will even remember that Britain exists. I can't wait for that moment. See their eye like Mr Bean own.

Britain is one useless country that always feel they have something to offer apart from their stupid publicity.., I'm not surprised, that's how they refused to join other EU countries in using Euro, even though I've not been there but Britain shld be 150th on my list of countries to tour.. they've got absolutely nothing to offer, no tourist site, behind US in terms of education and technological advancement, no natural resources, no rich culture... the only thing they are good at is to take advantage of others, if you earn more than £100k, you pay 50% tax, less than that you'll pay 40%.., they colonized us but couldn't even offer us what US, China and so on are offering..they refused to allow Scotland be on their own, before Ireland get their autonomy blood was shed.. their national teams are monumental failure, God bless France, all francophone countries enter France without visa, what are we still doin in that common poverty wealth... Nigeria should pull out of that damn organization...
btw is there any good thing we are gaining from them?
you wanna go on tourist, plz visit the Caribbean for natural sights unlike the artificial wey full uk
