Boko Haram is commander in chief of lies. They actually have people working for them on social media hyping up and trying to make their operations look coordinated or focussed on objectives whereas all they do is attack weak locations at well chosen times, steal weapons run and then go on sovial media to tweet or post.
They have lost ground holding capability hence remain technically defeated. If NAF gets enough Super Tucano aircraft and the NA gets aviation units, they will be history

@Sternprophet: BH are truly adept at propaganda that you would have to agree that they're being directed and coordinated by people who have full expertise, knowledge and experiences in all types of warfare. The BH boys being sent out to battles are just the cannon fodder.
To your point on Tucanos and army aviation, when will they arrive? Tucanos won't be here till 2020 and army aviation may start showing up from 2019. We also were to get 3 Tucanos from Brazil. Now that the US has agreed to sell the Tucanos, i believe we should get those 3 Tucanos as a stop gap to increase CAS together with the Mi-35's, F7 and Alpha Jet.
We can't wait till then before this vermin of BH is summarily dealt a death blow once and for all. We should be looking at some capabilities to improve on quickly e.g purchase more MRAPS, IFV and area saturation artillery guns including rapi fire mini-guns

Nothing's changed on these streets, I see.
I'm coming home at the end of September, ebola free insh'allah. Don't know if it's been reported here but 1 of our Oryx's rotor blades bit the ground evading heavy fire from the ADF.
Our 5 Oryx remain under UN MONUSCO command and therefore don't fly in protective pairs or with Rooivalk as our doctrine demands.

Rooivalk now fly exclusively for RSABATT/FIB missions as SA is paying for their deployment. After this Oryx incident, I suspect the UN will find themselves flying exclusively on MI-17s. grin grin grin

Because of our outdated media policy, it's analysts and journos who get to tell our stories:

http://www.saairforce.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9916#p120234

They were alone and very, very low when they came under fire. The pilot in command performed evasive actions, avoiding the ground fire but clipping three of the rotors on a tree. All three rotors have damaged tips and need to be replaced, but the aircraft is otherwise undamaged.

As a result of MONUSCO no longer being able to fund the Rooivalks, they've been shifted to a new arrangement where it seems SA pays most of the costs for their sustainment and will pay for any cost of scrambles to support SA forces. There may still be an arrangement for MONUSCO to use the aircraft as well, but I'm trying to get details.

Apparently the Mi-24s were allocated to another mission and could not provide top cover. Unfortunately the US govt has slashed MONUSCO's budget so much that it has to allocate resources sparingly.

The aircraft was 1227 (UN 820).

Fun Fact: The SANDF "Soldier 2000" camouflage pattern isn't only designed for day time use, but the pattern and materials were also designed to function in the near infrared spectrum. Meaning a soldier wearing the pattern at night is less likely to be picked up by thermal cameras. Don't ask me how this witchcraft works (since I don't know), but it's true.

OPERATION THUNDER STRIKE 2: NAF NEUTRALIZES BOKO HARAM VEHICLE AND FIGHTERS IN TUMBUN REGO, PROVIDES AIR SUPPORT TO REPEL INSURGENT ATTACK AT DAMASAK

As Operation THUNDER STRIKE 2 entered the tenth day, yesterday, 12 September 2018, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has recorded significant successes against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in air raids conducted at Tumbun Rego on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State. The attacks were conducted in successive waves, involving Nigerian Air Force (NAF) F-7Ni and Alpha Jet combat aircraft as well as Mi-35M Helicopter Gunships supported by Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, resulting in the destruction of a BHT vehicle and neutralization of scores of insurgents.

Characteristic of the insurgents’ tactics, the BHT fighters were initially well camouflaged under foliage and inside abandoned buildings within the settlement. However, timely intelligence enabled the ISR platforms to track and locate one of the BHT vehicles as it was entering the settlement. The vehicle was engaged and destroyed by the attack aircraft. Subsequent waves of attack targeted the scores of insurgents that emerged from their hiding places after the attack on the vehicle. These were engaged in turns by the attack aircraft and neutralized.

In another development, the ATF conducted several ISR and Close Air Support missions throughout the night of 12 and early morning of 13 September 2018 in support of troops of the 145 Nigerian Army Battalion, ensuring that the BHTs’ attack at Damasak was thwarted. Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, was in Maiduguri today, 13 September 2018, to again assess progress of the operation as well as boost the morale of the frontline troops. He seized the opportunity to commend the Comd and personnel of the ATF for their efforts while urging them to sustain the momentum of operations with a view to locating and destroying all remnants of the insurgents within the fringes of Lake Chad and other areas in Northern Borno.
