Good news at a right time.
But here are my questions...

How was the rescue mission done?
Did they arrest anybody or any of the abductors?
Did they kill anybody while trying to rescue the boys?
Did the gov army faced any resistance from the abductors?

why does Nigeria need Destroyers?

Deterrent.
Are we to wait until platforms are required before we start looking for ways to get those platforms?

The boys were released after negotiations with the abductors
Military operations gave government the upper hand in the negotiations that eventually secured the release of the kids.

A fire exchange with the abductors would have been catastrophic. Accounts given by the freed students showed that the bandits had many armed kids within their ranks and it would have been difficult to differentiate the kids. Many of the students would have died.
So the best thing was done after failure to prevent it from happening in the first instance.

Once the kidnap happened, the military, army and air force sprang to action. There was an initial exchange of fire with an advanced military team.

In other to avoid civilian casualties, the army was ordered to tail the adductors and prevent them any freedom of movement.

The military immediately deployed ISR aircrafts, drones, helicopters, fighter jets, armour and special forces to cordon the general area.

Boko-Haram Terrorists wanted to take advantage of the situation, hence the propaganda video Shekau released.

While the area was cordoned off the army government weighed their options, and chose the best possible action to save all the boys kidnapped.

See below pictures from the actual military operation and cordon.

Also if those kidnappers took more time We would have been forced to use military action cos the special forces deployed at that time were ordered to stand down.

The Military used SHOW OF FORCE to get those boys out..

Good question...
Cos for now Nigeria having Destroyers would be more of a liability than asset

Whichever is more capable in terms of Deterrent
It depends on the needs of the navy and NSA though.
Why shouldn't Nigeria get a destroyer?

Because its expensive and Nigeria has no threats that warrant the need for a Destroyer.

I think one of them is already in the country as I saw this exact replica of aircraft with the same paint shade take off early this month in lagos.

The Daks are still flying........and the SANDF still has the 20mm and 12.7mm guns on other platforms, so it is possible! However I just don't see the use of such a system currently!
