“We can also see some challenges and some failures on his side. But on a general note, I believe that those who voted him in 2015 still have hope and belief in him that he can lead them to where they want to be.

“And for the opposition party, it is a positive development that you have a lot of people struggling to lead this country. It is interesting.

“And the statements they have been making, there is nothing wrong with it. It is just putting the party on its toes. It will in no way stop the president from emerging the next leader of Nigeria.”

PoliticsNULGE Declares Strike, Kicks Against Fayose’s Employment by 13Ebiscoo(op): 8:40am On Sep 14, 2018
The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees in Ekiti State has declared an indefinite strike against Governor Ayodele Fayose, beginning from today, Friday, for alleged negligence of workers’ welfare and unpaid salary arrears.

The workers are aggrieved over the failure of the state government to honour an agreement signed recently at the Joint Account Allocation Committee of September 4.

They also warned the state government against fresh recruitment when it had yet to clear various arrears owed serving workers.

Rising from an emergency meeting held in Ado Ekiti, the union in a communique signed by the state’s President, Olubunmi Ajimoko, and the Secretary, Suleiman Alero directed all workers to embark on strike until all contentious issues and the amount for net distributable were addressed.

The communiqué read, “Against the background of this government neglecting our earlier advice on the timeliness of fresh recruitment into the services of both the local government and the teaching sector, we again wish to stress that additional burden should not be put on JAAC until our various arrears are cleared. The case of those termed “Hurriedly employed” in 2003 should serve as a lesson to all who remember history.

“In view of the insensitivity of this present administration, even at the point of winding up, when we feel that corrections of past errors should be made, it has become painfully obvious that no concrete agreement can be respected by this administration.

“The union is, therefore, calling all its members in the 16 local governments, the related commission, boards and departments to proceed on an indefinite strike action from Friday.

“We humbly wish to stress that this position will only be reviewed when we see a physical evidence of the political will to alleviate our members’ predicament.”

PoliticsIBB: Celebrating The People’s General At 77 by 13Ebiscoo(op): 6:32am On Sep 10, 2018
Twenty-five years ago, he turned up in the corridors of power as Nigeria’s Military President and settled into a life of honour after decades of faithful service to his fatherland. Ever since, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR (rtd) has been an outstanding statesman in the Nigerian affair. Even as this revered gap-toothed General, leader, father, grandfather, adviser, opinion molder and advocate of a united Nigeria clocks 77 today, he shows no sign of slowing down. His avowed intent is to foster the unity of this nation— for which he still endures bullet wounds from the civil war—and ensure it is eternalised.

Whatever your view of him, IBB is a national sensation—popular, charismatic, charming, enigmatic, redoubtable and kind. He is a man much adored and longed to behold. His Hilltop Villa in Minna has continued to be a Mecca of some sort, famous for its hospitality to a wide variety of people from politicians to professionals, royalty, artisans, the masses, the high and mighty from within and outside the country.

Being a fountain of knowledge and experience, the pearls of wisdom that flow from IBB’s words, thoughts and demeanour continue to magnetise the people. The old, the youth, students and interest groups frequent him for inspiration and counselling.

One begins to wonder whether the General has time for himself. Even as he notches the seventh ladder of his seventies, I do not see him backtracking on his nation-building role or minimising his invaluable contributions to our democratic process especially with 2019 in the offing. The task of fixing Nigeria, to him, is an eternal calling. It was in that spirit that his administration, in April, 1983, constituted the National Committee on Corruption and other Economic Crimes, whose report inspired all subsequent anti-corruption initiatives in Nigeria.

The welfare of Nigerians preoccupy him. To him, the notional ‘’big man’’ is fiction. As he often says, ‘’we are all equals before Allah, and we must see ourselves as equals.’’ He remains a fascinating figure. Many are baffled by the sheer aggregation of followers behind him. Many are interested in his matter, apt to reciprocate for his magnanimity and generosity in any little way fit. He is a man of the people; he has touched many and is touching more lives.

As a mark of his timeless relevance to the wellbeing of Nigeria, he is constantly being approached and consulted by all levels of political leadership. Most recently, he was visited at home in Minna by prominent stalwarts of his political party, PDP and other political organizations in the country. In fact, as a tradition, his hallowed Hilltop Villa, serves as a bastion of democracy and nation building, accommodating a wide spectrum of interests and providing ample opportunities for cross-fertilisation of ideas on how to make Nigeria greater.

Clerics, beggars, student leaders, media gurus, corporate bodies—the list is endless—quest his advice and assistance. Tell me, then, how it is possible not to celebrate this iconic figure. His kind are rare, and only live once in every 500 years. How can anyone afford not to admire him?

As someone said two years ago, ‘’If you have stormed his house in anger—probably with determination to knock out one more tooth and double his signature gap-tooth, the aura of his presence soon melts your frown into a smile. Sometimes my mischievous sixth sense would just begin to imagine what he would have done to the ladies in those early days of sowing his wild oats. One must be evil for one to meet Babangida and not like him. For me, therefore, the IBB phenomenon is not his political clout nor mythical financial war chest. It is the persona. The charm. The charisma.’’

Like every soul under the sun, IBB has his regrets. In retrospect, there are things he would have done otherwise. He once told a team of journalists that his biggest regret was his inability to deliver a nuclear plant to Nigeria. According to him, the epileptic supply of power in Nigeria today would have been averted had he pursued his hunch to build a nuclear power plant for the country.

As a peace-loving statesman, IBB continues to own up to the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election while defending and shielding other key players in the incident. He never shies away from his responsibility as the then Head of State. This leadership quality he embodies is still lacking in many of our leaders.

Nigeria, Africa and the world celebrate you. You are a true and unique leader. The people’s General. The man many wish to be like. The lion that roars from the Hilltop. The watchman for the masses. Though the passing of your irreplaceable better half, Maryam, lingers in your heart, you are yet not deterred from the sacred duty to build a Nigeria where diverse religions, ethnicities, cultures, talents and age brackets would prosper harmoniously.

We salute you and wish you and your caring family happiness and good health. Nigerians, Africans and the global community value your sacrifices for the entire human family.

Shine on, our General

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has reminded a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, platform, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that he (Kwankwaso) was angry when he (Fayose) stated that Buhari was not capable of leading Nigeria in 2015.

Fayose said he has been vindicated about the warning on Buhari, adding that he was thankful to God that Kwankwaso was now a born again.

” I told Nigerians in 2015 when Buhari was campaigning that he lacked capacity. His subordinates have always handled governance whenever he heads a place. You said what is this Fayose saying but today, you are a great convert.”

Fayose said that Buhari was a wrong choice for the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that “He is a black market.”

PoliticsYobe Gov Endorses APC National Secretary, Buni As Successor by 13Ebiscoo(op): 10:09pm On Sep 07, 2018
Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has endorsed the nomination of the national secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Mai Mala Buni, to fly the party’s governorship ticket in the state.

The decision was taken on Friday after a meeting of the leadership of the party at the state, local government and ward levels.

The governor also endorsed the current Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan, for Senatorial ticket, just as he endorsed his spokesman, Abdullahi Bego, for Jakusko/Bade Federal Constituency.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of youths from Yobe Zone A had thronged the Government House, Damaturu to call on Ibrahim Gaidam, to contest for the Senate seat for Yobe Zone A.

The youths were received at the Government House by Abubakar Ali, the deputy governor.

The leader of the youths, Umar Kalli, said: “We believe that although Governor Gaidam is successfully completing his second term in office, we cannot allow him to go and rest.

PoliticsPolice Disagree With Edwin Clark Over Identity Of Officers Behind Raid Of His Ho by 13Ebiscoo(op): 10:08am On Sep 07, 2018
The Nigeria Police Public Relations Officer, Ag. DCP Jimoh Moshood, has disagreed with elder statesman, Edwin Clark over the identity of police officer allegedly behind the raid on his Abuja home.

Chief Clarke had petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and named a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Kolo, Commander of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tactical Squad and Assistant Inspector General of Police, Federal Intelligence, Umoru Usman as those who instructed the raid and search on his residence.

However, Moshood in a swift reaction told journalists in Abuja: “With all due respect to the elder statesman, we have done everything to investigate that matter.

“When the incident occurred, IGP directed an investigation promptly and that the personnel who went there should be investigated and detained and that was carried out.

“And that same night, the IGP sent a delegation to the elder statesman to apologize to him and the DIG with the others that went said the apology was accepted by him.

“There is no institution that would allow its personnel, on their own, to carry out an unauthorized and illegal activities as we have reported.

“And based on that, it is not Kolo that tried these personnel. It is the provost office that tried the men and found them guilty and dismissed them from service, which the IGP approved.

“If you ask some of your colleagues, they will tell you that Kolo was at parade of suspect that Monday along the Abuja/Kaduna highway. He was within that vicinity and he was not in Abuja at the time.

“So, we plead for more understanding from the elder statesmen.

“But we want Nigerians to know that Kolo was not behind it. If he has sent a petition, then the IGP will investigate but I want to make it clear to the public that we seek for more understanding from the elder statement that it is not Kolo that is behind it. Those that were behind it have been dismissed and the officer is undergoing interdiction now and the police service commission would determine his fate.”

PoliticsSowore Vows To Collapse Old Order In 2019 by 13Ebiscoo(op): 10:17am On Sep 06, 2018
Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Aspirant and Founder and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, has said “the old order; the regime of deceit, hunger and starvation is about to collapse in Nigeria”.

He made this know when he addressed hundreds of supporters, who thronged the arrival wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, to welcome him back from a fundraising campaign in the United States and Canada.

Speaking to the ecstatic crowd, he said: "Your PVC is the major weapon to liberate yourselves from the shackles of oppression and retardation in this country", just as he encouraged his supporters to keep advertising the liberation that has come to Nigeria on streets, towns and villages across Nigeria.

He expressed his determination to work for the development of the country, stating that "by this time next year we can deliver road infrastructure, education and a leadership that is respected all over the world, not a Nigeria where they say youths are lazy, when they provide them with nothing”.

Shortly after his arrival, while taking questions from a group of students of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, who had come to show their solidarity, said when elected, Sowore said his administration will focus on “providing scholarships with cash support per semester for students, while ensuring that students are connected through technology", in order to ensure that the students can access resources like books from other countries and also share ideas.

He added that “during our time, Wi-Fi will become a fundamental human right, so that everyone is connected. And I am not saying this as a promise; there are tons of organisations who want to provide Wi-Fi for free”.

Reacting to Sowore's comments, Rakiya Ahmed, one of the students at the event said: “What he is saying sounds impossible; I won’t lie to you. But at least he is young”.

Olagunju Oluwafunminiyi from Agege, however, contradicted Rakiya's position on the impossibility of Sowore's campaign promises, stating that "I am not really happy with what is going on in Nigeria. I’ve never been a fan of politics, but I changed my mind when a friend told me about him. He had a town hall meeting. I followed him and I saw that he truly has experience, even in Nigeria and not just outside the country, so I will support and give him my vote”.

Sowore declared his intention to contest for Nigeria's presidency on March 9, 2018, and has since chosen the African Action Congress (AAC) as his political platform for the February 2019 polls.

SportsSeychelles Vs Nigeria: Rohr Warns Super Eagles As 18 Players Hit Camp by 13Ebiscoo(op): 7:49am On Sep 05, 2018
Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has warned his players against underrating their opponent in Saturday’s African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying game.

Nigeria will face Seychelles in their second match of the AFCON qualifiers on Saturday.

Rohr urged the players not to underrate the hosts as the Eagles aim to collect all three points and revive their chances of qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles lost 2-0 to South Africa in their first game of the qualifying series in Uyo.

As at Tuesday evening, 18 players were already at the team’s camp ahead of the clash.

Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo, Kenneth Omeruo, Semi Ajayi, Samuel Kalu, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidozie Awaziem, Kelechi Nwakali and Bryan Idowu, are already in camp.

Others are Ogenyi Onazi, Simeon Nwankwo, Etebo Oghenekaro, Leon Balogun, Henry Onyekuru, Francis Uzoho and Jamilu Collins.

However, goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi are being expected on Wednesday.

Defenders Tyronne Ebuehi, Shehu Abdullahi, William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina have been ruled out of the clash.

The Franco-German coach, while addressing reporters ahead of the clash, said that Leganes new signing Kenneth Omeruo would be drafted in.

“It depends on how we handle the absence of the injured defenders,” Rohr said.

“But I think Omeruo should lead in their absence. He has been with the team for a long time and I hope he should be able to cover up for the other injured players who will not be part of the game.

“For us to win, we must not look down on Seychelles because everybody thinks they are no team but if we don’t raise our game we will be shocked,” he added.

Politics2019 Election: Why Nigerians Shouldn’t Vote For President Buhari, Apc – Atiku Re by 13Ebiscoo(op): 8:46pm On Aug 31, 2018
Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, has said Nigerians should not vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, because “they have ruined the country’s economy”.

The Waziri of Adamawa said this while addressing journalists at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secretariat in Minna, Niger State on Thursday.

Abubakar, a presidential candidate of the PDP, said the APC-led government has remained consistently insensitive to Nigeria’s diversity, hence can’t make it better.

He noted that the level of insecurity experienced currently was more than the civil war the country had.

According to Abubakar, “APC has failed Nigerians and I don’t think there is need to give them a second chance.

“It is very clear that as far as economic growth is concerned, the APC government has failed and that is why we have the highest number of joblessness, highest poverty rate.

“As you all know, we have been described as the capital of poverty in the whole world, and that has led us to the greatest challenge of insecurity that we are faced in this country.

“Even during the civil war, we did not experience this type of challenge.

“Coupled with that, the government has remained consistently insensitive to our diversity and, therefore, the patronage in the government is given to only one part of the country.”

PoliticsOndo Monarchs Kick Against Renewal Of BEDC Licence by 13Ebiscoo(op): 8:12am On Aug 30, 2018
AKURE—THE Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers, yesterday, kicked against the renewal of operating licence of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, by the Federal Government.

They described the activities and services of the BEDC in the state as “antithetical to the purpose it was established” even as it called on the Federal Government to consider a better option for good and efficient services.

The chairman of the State Council of Obas and the traditional ruler of Ikare Akoko, Oba Akadiri Momoh passed the vote of no confidence on the electricity company in a statement in Akure, Ondo State.

Oba Momoh said: “The service of the electricity company has fallen short of the hope and expectations of its consumers in the state.

“The traditional rulers in the state decided to pass a vote of no confidence on BEDC over its erratic power supply, refusal to distribute meters as directed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission, NERC, and failure to energise transformers in all areas within the state.

“BEDC has failed to give efficient services to the people of the state as one of its constituents. The Council has noted that the activities and services of the BEDC have been antithetical to the purpose of its creation.”

“The Council of Obas in the state has been monitoring the operation of the BEDC in the three senatorial districts of the state and the services fall short of the hope and expectations of the consumers”.

Reacting, the spokesperson of BEDC in charge of Ondo and Ekiti States, Mr. Kayode Brown disagreed with the traditional rulers on the renewal of their operating license.

Brown said: “It is not in the purview of the traditional rulers to decide whether to renew our operating license or not. It is only the Federal Government that can determine that.”

PoliticsJim Iyke Speaks On Reported Arrest At Lagos Airport by 13Ebiscoo(op): 7:04pm On Aug 28, 2018
Controversial Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, has opened up on his reported arrest at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport Lagos.

On Monday, the popular actor was captured in a video that went viral on social media which show him in a bit of an altercation with law enforcement officers at the airport over a case of alleged assault.

But speaking to reporters in Abuja yesterday evening, Jim Iyke denied assaulting anyone at the airport saying, “people are just amazing, the truth is that I was running late for a flight in Abuja, and my people had sent my luggage a flight ahead. I tried hard not to miss the flight, but by the time I made it to the gate, the captain had almost shut the aircraft.”

He explained further that one of the security guards close by got too eager and got involved.

“One of the security guards who saw me struggling to make my way in got overzealous and got into an argument with my PA. Then they started exchanging words and pointing fingers at the heat of the moment.

“At the end of the day, we couldn’t even make it (the flight) and when we were coming back, the airport assistant went to call the police and said my Personal Assistant hit his face and pushed him.

“But when the policeman saw that it was me, I told them to let us go downstairs to resolve the matter, it was an issue of tempers fraying. We then went downstairs and the matter was resolved. I even boarded the same Dana Air Craft and I was shocked upon my arrival to hear that I was arrested by the Police. Which Police?’

“I know that people need content, but let’s not blow things out of proportion, I am not the kind of person who will post a rejoinder on issues like this, because I will be fuelling the fire, but we are all human and we lose our temper at different points in our lives, especially with how rude and unprofessional people are and more bewildering is the fact that people never want to hear the other side of the story

“The funny part is that this guy they said I slapped came to pick me up at the lounge and took me to the plane. He got me a better seat and I gave him little change because I know the country is hard. We hugged and ended it on a great note.

“The manager himself took me to the plane and I told him to school his staff on how to treat people. Its sad the length that people will go to spread the fake news about people. Thank you for being one of the credible media houses who actually confirm news before publishing it,” Jim Iyke said.

PoliticsLifeless President: The World Has Rejected You – SKC Ogbonnia To Buhari by 13Ebiscoo(op): 7:55pm On Aug 27, 2018
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, SKC Ogbonnia, has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari has been rejected by the entire people of the world.

Ogbannia, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the APC, said that the world does not want President Buhari back in office.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday, the presidential aspirant was reacting to the recent claim by Financial Times that US President, Donald Trump described Buhari as lifeless President.

He said, “I told you so. About ten days ago, I revealed to our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), and fellow Nigerians that the world is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid.

“I asserted that the opposition is coming from ‘influential leaders within our major allies, including Great Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia, China, Canada, etc.’

“I added ‘that the emerging consensus among these nations is that President Buhari’s second term ambition lacks in cogency. They point to Buhari’s failing health, lack of clear vision, lack of intellectual capacity, an apparent pattern of torpor, nepotism, wanton killings, disregard for the rule of law, and a growing sense of disunity and uncertainty in the land, among many failings.’

“However, both the Presidency and the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, vigorously countered my account. According to Onyeama, “The international community is very supportive of President Buhari. As you can see President Buhari has transformed our relationship with foreign countries and also the perception of Nigeria by foreign leaders.’

“But the hard truth is trickling in. The trending report by Financial Times where US President Donald Trump blatantly referred to Buhari as “lifeless” is a partial testimony.

“In short, my sources within the White House confided that Trump believes that Africa has the potential to be fully independent, “but the countries over there need to get their act together.

“They need good leaders who can get things done. Nigeria, for example, has huge, huge resources and can do much better than what is going on over there.’ This view is popular among the Western nations. I also gathered that some of the world leaders plan to visit or talk to Buhari soon.

“Perhaps, leadership is contingent upon the environment. What is good for America may not be good for Nigeria and vice versa.

“But if any relationship with the outside world is a factor in solving Nigerian problems, President Buhari has no business touching the APC nomination form. Further, the Financial Times does not speak for the world, quite alright, but its report is a part of the pressure from the international community that will continue to mount as the months leading to 2019 go by.

“Such a global campaign is expected to be more robust than what President Goodluck Jonathan faced in 2015.”
