Pork Fat Used In Making Shoprite Bread?

Heard this from a Muslim brother recently (who didn't have any reason to lie to me) that someone (a non-Muslim) told him pig fat, was one of the ingredients in making shoprite bread, and he was only telling me him cause he knew muslims do not eat pork pig products. Not to create a prejudice here but we know of all the "possible impossibilities" here I Nigeria. Please could we try to research on this as muslims as we know the impact of haram food on acceptance of our solat by Allah.

The oil is part of the flesh of the pig, as the fat is either with the muscle, skin, or liver, which is still the same flesh.

usermane: Peace be on you. Are you a muslim? Pig meat is forbidden but pig oil is not(Qur'an 2:172-173)

Yes, I am a Muslim. Wondering why you would ask that if you did read my post

Blood is forbidden, except that in liver and spleen which can be consumed. Dead animals are forbidden, except for fish and locust. And pig produce is forbidden, including its fat. Please check out the tafsir of the particular verse you quoted (baqarah 172-173) [ and don't mislead people

Good evening.
Theeni, i though you were asking a question, in the first place.
The verses of the Qur'an are precise.

Chapter 2, verse 173 tells us that 'dead animals' are forbidden. It didn't say 'meat of dead animals',hence we know that dead animals include their bones, fat or meat, all must be avoided e.t.c . But when it came to pig it didn't say 'pig' is forbidden, it said 'meat of pig' is forbidden. There is a difference here. 'Pig' and 'pig meat' are not the same. One is general, the other is specific.

Even the Qur'an distinguish fat from meat, considering them as two separate parts, mutually exclusive. This is evident from the fact that God prohibited for the jews, certain fats of cattle and sheep whose meat he permitted for them(Qur'an 6:146). Fat may exist in animals alongside with meat, but fat is not from the meat itself. Fat and meat could be separated, otherwise God would not prohibit fat and permit meat of the same animal as in the above verse.

How do we confirm what the brother said then.

We can't believe it just because he said it.

But the consumption of shoprite bread by many Muslims shall be on hold until it is proven otherwise.

Well,I do not think that is true. They could use cow fat or vegetable oil.
Re: Pig Fat In Shoprite Bread? by pmc01(m): 5:03pm On Nov 03, 2013
Mr. Usermane, the question is if the allegation is true, must we eat it? I don't really understand why you are trying to make a case for the pig fat/oil whatever as if there is no better option for it. Have you also forgotten that we are to stay away from matters that are 'in-between'?

Just stick with the clearly Halal things and leave the Pig thing to be.

Question still unanswered. Is pig fat part of the ingredients of shoprite bread? Someone should please answer this, if you have information. Thereafter, we can begin to go back and forth on whether its meat or fat. I bought this bread for the first time yesterday, and even bought for my family, so I need to know so I can alert them. Thanks!

see this one wey dey chop agege. you dont even know that shoprite makes many sorts of bread ranging from sugar white, sugar brown, sugarless(for diabetic peeps) and salt bread. you dont know that shoprite houses its own bakeries? Try and visit shoprite, and please go inside and stop taking pics outside alone. You would be amazed at the kind of queue you would see in the breadline waiting for oven-fresh bread.

I'm disappointed by some people struggling to convince/mislead people with a senseless notion of PIG FAT IS DIFFERENT FROM PIG MEAT here. I don't know why people carelessly get confused and try to deep others in the same mess.

When Qur'an Kareem says pig meat is forbidden for you, what else do you need to know, you want Qur'an to go on even the intestine, the liver and the fat are also forbidden...common grow up!

Pig meat is forbidden means the entire organs, cells, fiber, lubricants, bones, hair, blood that makes up the animal PIG IS FORBIDDEN.

If your mother insists and warn you not to touch her car again ,excuse me, would you go on to ask her if you could remove the tyres and form own bicycle?

Islam is one Qur'an is one,no room for confusing interpretations nor intuitive argument..

@Username avoid literary tweaking and blemishing incursions on what Qur'an has established.

Your tutorial is not to educate nor clarify the subject but some kind manipulating hypothesis to the word of God...

@Op thank you for sharing...I put my Shoprite bread consumption on hold...pending a thorough verification

Thank you.

You miss the 'all' part.

Pig is not to be eaten. It does not mean that you can not benefit from pig at all. If for example, its skin is used for leather, wearing its products like belt or wrist watch would be ok.

In that case, pig is good for a reason but not all good.

When you say that fire is all good. Then being burnt by fire must be so good cheesy
