Re: Nairaland Math Quiz Winner l::::::JARYEH::::::l by AlphaMaximus(m): 1:58pm On Nov 18, 2013
Only Denniece1 got this(kudos, but don't relax)
First we obtain 5% of 2000 which is 100. Next, we acknowledge the fact that the fuel has to have 25% toluene, thus, there will be an increase in the current volume of toluene and also the overall volume of fuel which leads us to this equation(let the unknown quantity of extra toluene be 'x'):
(100+x/2000+x)*100=25(needed future perc of toluene)
Cross multiplying we have:
100(100+x)=25(2000+x)
Its expansion and collection of like-terms gives us '533.33 litres' of toluene as the value of x.

Multiples of an even no can never be odd.Hence if Q is even it implies that 3Q is even.
CASE1
Q+3
Since Q is even and 3 is odd hence Q+3 is odd
CASE3
Q^2-1=(Q-1)(Q+1)
since 1 is odd Q-1 and Q+1 are odd.hence their product are odd.
AnsB= 3Q
