Yaya is among d top midfielders in d world... Where is mikel der? Sm1 dat was almost sold by chelsea in d last transfer... Yaya didnt perform in nations cup bt has bn a pillar dis season in man city,ylr mikel has had to cope wit few stats nd substitute appearances,by d way yaya is more recognised worldwide nd dats also a reason y he got most of d votes.mikel is gud tho i think he has a chance of winning d caf award cz i cnt rememba d last tym a player won d bbc award nd caf at d same tym 2 Likes |

Diasporan: With this it is obvious a Nigerian will likely win the prestigious CAF Player of the year award.This BBC award is not necessary afterall Jay Jay Okocha got it but never won the glorious CAF Player of the year award.And i can't remember a player winning both award in the same year.Infact i am happy Mikel Obi didn't win this award which implies that Mikel is still up for contention for the CAF Player of the year award.All the same congrats to Yaya Toure.apart from Mikel winning nations cup and europa cup, do u think he's better dan Yaya Toure? Both last season and presently? Sometimes its not bout d trophies won, remember Schneider in 2010, I almost cried wen he didn't even make top 3, and he won all d available trophies dat season, won silver durin world cup, etc.........I want Mikel 2 win but it'll b hard considering wats happening 2 Ribery now- everybody prefer Ronaldo even wen he didn't win a pin last season or now and Ribery won 4 trophies including d one Lukaku (everton's best player) gave 2 dem. Spacodinho: nawao, is that the criteria for voting, so defenders like cannavaro that won the 2006 world best player was judge by the number goals and assist that he churn out. SMH canavaro won it because Italy won the world cup by being the best defending team and canavaro was outstanding. Moreover there was no other player that was outstanding in that year. It is not easy for a defender to win that award, how many defenders have won it since canavaro? Do u really think Mikel was outstanding in the Nations Cup? He was good but not outstanding. 2 Likes |

Let's face it, it will be difficult for a player than cannot command automatic shirt in Chelsea to be voted Africa's best. You need to be super-regular before you impress anyone, other than your countrymen. Moreso, Mikel's game in Chelsa is too ordinary to convince anybody - at least non-Nigerians - that he is Africa's best. 7 Likes |

Mikel's biggest problem is the fear to take risks in Chelsea. Goals win u games and there is no way a player that scores goals to win games can be overlooked. Same reason messi won ballon do'r in 2012 without winning any trophy. Before Mikel moved to Chelsea he was an attacking player, mourinho converted him to a defensive midfielder agreed but he didn't improve. Essien in his peak was a defensive midfielder but he scored some wonder goals. Yaya toure was a defensive midfielder when he was at barcelona but he wasn't afraid to go forward. He took risks and paid off when he came to man city. He wasn't their free kick taker but took risks in taking free kicks and now he scores free kicks for fun. Didier drogba wasn't Chelsea's free kick taker but he forced himself to take free kicks even with lampard on the field and it paid off. Good players take risks, Mikel is too timid and that is why he hasn't improved. He was second to messi at the youth championship but he hasn't improved since then. 11 Likes |

Go outside the shores of Nigeria and u will realize everyone would rather watch yaya than Mikel. Its not an award based on trophies, its individual award by an individual player over a calender year. Ask why asamoah gyan won it in 2010 or why messi won ballon do'r in 2012. Why did jay jay okocha win this award in 2003, 2004? I'm sure u didn't complain then because he was a Nigerian. If Mourinho decide not to use Mikel for Chealsea's next ten matches,Chealsea will still win matches and Mikel would definitely not be missed but the same cannot be said of Yaya. Everybody on this forum that thinks Mikel should have won it just because he won the nations cup and Europa league should ask themselves if jay jay okocha shouldn't have won it in 2003 and 2004. Okocha didn't win anything in those years and yet he won it, Nigerians didn't complain because he was a Nigerian, now they are saying BBC is biased just because a better player won it. 1 Like |
