sokoanugwa: No matter how we see it, OBJ is the next elder statesman for Africa after the demise of Madiba. Forget about his flaws and lets look at this continent critically, he stands out and am very proud that one of our own is stepping on. OBJ can never be like Mandela. Is he ready to lose his life for Nigeria? |

Why do you need someone like Mandela in Nigeria when you have got tons of KONYs, Mobutus and Idi Amins? ^^^^Those people up there are/were also legends/heroes - heroes of tyranny, corruption and mass killings. |

On point! Prophet Elijah once boasted to God that he was the only prophet of God left in Israel, but God refuted his claim when He told him that He (God) still had 7,000 other prophets who had not bowed to Baal (the idol of the day) in Israel. Make no mistake, Greater than Mandelas will still emerge from the continent of Africa, if the Lord tarries. sexymoma: Iru eniyan wa, Iru Olorun Ni o si. |
Re: Can We Have Someone Like Nelson Mandela In Nigeria? by Nobody: 1:32pm On Dec 06, 2013 |
The main problem with the op's question is that it borders on naivety and shallow reasoning devoid of even the most basic historical awareness or analysis. Mandela came out of a specific historical circumstance in which the black majority were subjected to dehumanising apartheid and discrimination. He campaigned against this, and was arrested and jailed for 27 years. He didn't jail himself. In Nigeria, hundreds of activists were arrested and detained or jailed in the anti-colonialism campaigns of the 1950s... If the British had decided to maintain their oppression and keep those activists jailed for 27 years, they would all come out as "Mandela"- like figures as well, and heroes, who 'sacrificed their lives for freedom' etc etc. So the op's question is absurd, childish and silly, since Nigeria does not share the same recent political experience as South Africa, and therefore could never have produced a "Mandela". |
