winteriscoming: This New nollywood seems to be going places, time to get with the times. I especially like Nse, Joseph and Linda. Weird thing is I've not seen any OC movie and the guy has been getting rave reviews.

Better earmark 5 nollywood cinema slots for 2014.

Dude I stopped watching Game of Thrones in season 2. Is winter still coming? It hasn't arrived since?

LOL. Winter has arrived. Grand Maester Pycellle announced news from the citadel in season 3 that the summer was now officially over.

But seriously the series is very far from being over what with HBO's slow schedule. And the writer of the books being lazy.

For nollywood to grow the govt has a role to play . If you shoot a movie in Toronto and hire workers from toronto in it . After paying them ..you file your tax and govt pays you back 40percent of what you spent .

eesdee: Why is "Last flight to Abuja" not on that list undecided

The list is incomplete without LAST FLIGHT TO ABUJA and BLACK GOLD, LIQUID GOLD (I've forgotten that movie's title.)

Critics usually post their reviews on Newspapers. Your best bet is to just google search the names of the movie and add 'Review' at the back (eg 'Phone Swap Review' OR 'Phone Swap Movie Review' OR 'Phone Swap Nollywood Movie Review' as you want), it will bring the various review websites of the critics....then you can click on as many reviews as you want to enable you make accurate decisions. It will also bring review blogs. You can click on those too to see a review from a 'User' point of view.

Nice review OP....the average Nigerian stays criticizing all day without even giving chances for the other party/ies. I've started watching nollywood movies very well. From the year 2010,after I watched "the figurine", I started looking out for such good nollywood movies. Anyways , enough of my stories.
My favourite nollywood movies seen this year (2013) are as follows (in no particular order):
1. In the cupboard
2. Flower Girl
3. Murder at prime suites
4.Phone Swap (even though I haven't finished watching yhis)
5. House of gold (although this is like a combined effort of the Nigerian & Ghanaian industry folks)
6. Mr & Mrs (although I think this was shot last year, it is an absolutely incredible movie)
When I remember more, I would come add them up to this list.
I love Nigeria....God Bless Nigeria.

Dammit! angry Why am I just seeing this thread. The OP has done a great job with this thread and is obviously knowledgeable of what a 'good' film is. Not all those Emem Isong love stories and Desmond Elliot home made videos.

Mine are:

1 Anchor Baby
2 Phone Swap
3 Errrmmmm . ..can't remember for now
I'll be back.

Please, who knows if The Awakening and Hoodrush is out on dvd? I've actually seen Hoodrush at the cinema twice, but I really need to have that movie at my movie library. Or is there anyone that has the "amaa consideration" version of these movies? I really need them.

That will be the work of a regulatory body like 'Quality Control' that they have in the United States.

Cinemas.

Orikinla: Broken is a masterpiece.

Has it been released? I didn't know

Great topic, just checked out you 2012 list too, top-notch, but why miss out Sinking Sands, I think it was even better than Ties that Bind.

These are my list of Must-Watch recent Nollywood Movies- for everyone who watches movies (I haven't seen Phone Swap, Dr Bello, Relentless, Flower Girl and Sitanda)

1. Confusion Na Wa 10/10

2. The Meeting 10/10

3. Maami 10/10

4. The Figurine 9/10

5. Ije 9/10

6. Sinking Sands 9/10

7. Awakening 8/10

8. Murder at Prime Suites 8/10

9. Journey to Self 8/10

10. Ties That Bind 8/10

11. Tango With Me 7/10

12. Mirror Boy 7/10

13. Inale 7/10 - Would've ranked higher without the white narrator.

14. Anchor Baby 7/10

15. Last Flight to Abuja 7/10

Some movies I watched that were middle of the road (either OK, spoilt by didactic writing, or just meh) - dependent on one's mood, worldview, or expectations - are the following, watch at your own risk.

1. 2 Brides and a Baby 6/10

2. Mr and Mrs - 6/10

3. Married but Living Single - 6/10

4. On Bended Knees - 6/10

5. The Place - 5/10

6. Damage - 5/10

Hey Myne Whiteman, I've been to your blog few times. Nice stuffs, I must say smiley smiley

I agree with your post!
But I personally prefer ties that bind to sinking sands. I love the story around Sinking sands , but it was kinda boring. Ties That Bind was more engaging.

lmao @ bolded. RAA and myself have absolutely nothing in common! I don't watch their movies anymore. The only thing that production house have going for them is the beautiful pictures and nothing more! Their sound is not even that good. Wack stories, Wack Desmond Elliot directions! Wack Uche Jombo Productions. AAAARGH!!!
Not even the star studded cast of 'Weekend Getaway' was enough to make me go waste my hard earned kudi.

BTW, I think Mr and Mrs is still okay, Married but Living single also on the okay side. I didn't like Two Brides and a Baby. I haven't seen 'On bended Knees' and I don't think I will be doing that.

Thanks for your contribution. smiley smiley smiley smiley and Seasons Greetings
