Retired Primate Peter Akinola, former Primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria and past President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has been kidnapped. The incident occurred at about 3.00pm today at his Peter Akinola centre for youth training at Onijanganjangan, along old Lagos/Abeokuta road. This was coming barely 24 hours after the state government boosted the security sector with 50 additional patrol vans. At the ceremony, the governor had sounded warning to criminals to stay away from the state, particularly at the border areas as there would be no hiding place for them. The centre where Akinola was kidnapped is meant to train youths in various technical and vocational skills free of charge. The Anglican family has been thrown in confusion in Abeokuta, as preparation for the Xmas church services is reported to have reached advanced stage before the news of the highly revered priest's kidnap hit the town. The kidnapping of the mother of a federal House of Reps. member, Abiodun Abudu-Balogun in Ijebu ode, last year was last known kidnap case recorded in the state. A source close to the Akinolas confirmed the story, the Police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi said he would issue a statement on the development. http://dailytrust.info/index.php/top-stories/12961-breaking-retired-primate-peter-akinola-kidnapped-in-abeokuta

Let's pray and hope that it's not the traditional commercial kidnappers behind this cruelty.. Egba boys are definitely not into such venture.....they waited for him to leave the fortified comfort of his Hilltop residence before striking.... |

Aisha Sasay, the CNN news reader, once characterized the events that led to the brutal civil war that ravaged her native Sierra Leone during the 1990s as a "war waged by the poor, against the rich - a class war". The ongoing epidemic of kidnapping that Nigeria is now witnessing could be described in much the same manner, since virtually all kidnap victims accross Nigeria are those who are either comparatively wealthy, or who are at least pecieved to be rich, by virtue of the market value of the vehicles that convey them, and of the homes in which they reside. Another clue that a low-intensity class war is already under way in Nigeria is the gratuitous cruelty meted out by kidnappers to their victims, who are typically starved until ransoms are paid, or until they simply expire from hunger. That deliberate starvation of wealthy kidnap victims by their captors is a stark index of the pure, visceral loathing that the kidnappers have for those who fall into their net. It thus comes as no surprise that more than a few kidnap victims have in fact been executed and dumped at the locations where their families were instructed to find their loved ones alive, AFTER the agreed ransoms were paid out. If you are rich, and like to live large, flashing your cash and fancy ride, you had best reconsider that philosophy whenever you happen to be in contemporary Nigieria, because hungry eyes are observing you, and waiting for that one moment when your guard drops, to strike. In other words, to be rich and proud to show it in Nigeria today is to declare oneself a legitimate target for kidnap and possible murder even after all demands are met by your loved ones. In summary, to survive Nigeria's ongoing class war, stay low-key, stay alert, and stay ALIVE, likes the muffuguh. 1 Like |

L.M Ayedun..:only trying to show the kid that kidnapping is a nigerian problem and not a geo-political zone. So far it happened in a geo-political zone doesn't mean the other zones can't be indicted. Hence, my reason for not making any statement from the copy and paste i made. |

c0llynz02: If this happened in Enugu, it would have been on frontpage. Is MukiOtu a relative of MukiIkpu, and if so, why are you petitioning Papa God to punish them ? Enquiring minds want to know. |
Re: Breaking: Retired Primate Peter Akinola Kidnapped In Abeokuta by c0llynz02: 8:55pm On Dec 24, 2013 |
Jakumo:Yes she is a relative of MukiKpu and MukinAmu. God will punish her for trying to make it look like crime is the exclusive preserve of the Igbos. Emeka commits crime abroad, it gets to front page with full speed, Adeleye does the same and it is relegated to the bottom of the crime section. |
