The history of the name of Christ been replaced with the letter 'X' can only be traced to the tradition of the early Christians especially during the era of persecution. Sequel to the banning of the mentioning or writing the name of Christ by some emperors like Trajan, Nero, etc., the pioneers of the Christian faith devised another intelligent means of communicating the name of Christ amongst themselves. They borrowed the Greek letter 'X' which is also pronounced as 'ch' or 'chi' to write to themselves about Christ, simply to distract the attention of the vicious persecutors...
Ever since then, such has been taken to abbreviate the name 'Christ'...thus, Xtianity, Xt, Xtian, Xmas, etc.
.....
....
Merry Xmas...

jmoore:
Christmas means celebration of our lord Jesus Christ who came into this world to die for the sins of the whole world and he resurrected after three days.

It is only those that are blind that will keep arguing on why Christians should not celebrate it. The popular story they will tell you is that Christmas came from pagan.
This is Christmas and not paganmas, I wonder how long it will take before it sinks to their brain.
For example a christian missionary enters into a village where all of them are pagans and he preached the gospel of Jesus and almost the entire village converted to Christianity even the high priest of the shrine in the village is among the converts. They have a meeting on where to build a church in the village and the former high priest who is now a christian decides together with others to use the land where the pagan shrine is located for a church building. The church is built and they start worshiping God there. The earth is the lords and his fullness thereof, therefore any land can be used for a church building and any day can be used to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The three wise men came to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ as they brought gifts too.

If you choose not to celebrate that's your personal choice but let those who choose to celebrate God who came in human form to be offered as a sacrifice for the whole mankind keep on celebrating be it January,May,August.etc

I also want to talk about Xmas! It may appear that Christ is being taken out of Christmas, but is this what is really going on?

First of all, you have to understand that it is not the letter X that is put into Christmas.
We see the English letter X there, but actually what it involves is the first letter of the Greek name for Christ.
Christos is the New Testament Greek for Christ.
The first letter of the Greek word Christos is transliterated into our alphabet as an X.
That X has come through church history to be a shorthand symbol for the name of Christ dated back in the 1500s.
Next time you hear someone talking about how wrong "xmas" is, please teach him or her the history behind it.

Jesus is the reason for the season.

Merry Xmas to you

God bless u sir for educating some ignorant folks whose brains have been clogged by dogmatic prejudice. Well, not everyone will learn. Some will go ahead inventing outlandish theories and "satanizing" d christmas celebration.

The "X" in Christmas is not the same as the English alpahabet X. The "X" is just the first letter (Chi) of the Greek name for Christ which is Christos. So Xmas is just an abbreviation of Christmas and nothing more. E.g Christian can be abbreviated as Xtian, Christopher as Xtopher, Chrysanthus as Xanthus, etc. No need to unnecessarily burden urself with d weight of baseless theories.

Merry Xmas/Christmas y'all. Remain blessed

Celebrate Christmas

"He [Jesus] was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins!"1

Today is Christmas…the day we celebrate the birth of the Savior … the One who was rejected by men … the One who came from heaven to earth to give his life a ransom for your sins and mine … the One who is now in heaven preparing a place for his followers … the One who is coming again to take us to be with him in heaven forever. How can we ever thank God and the Son of God enough for so great a salvation?

One of my favorite gospel songs written by Keith Green expresses my feelings very well. I trust it will yours too. Let's make this our suggested prayer for today:

Oh Lord, You're beautiful,
Your face is all I seek,
And when Your eyes are on this child,
Your grace abounds to me.

Chorus:
I wanna take Your Word
and shine it all around.
But first help me just to live it, Lord!
And when I'm doing well.
Help me to never seek a crown.
For my reward is giving glory to You.

Oh, Lord, You're wonderful,
Your touch is all I need,
And when Your hand is on this child,
Your healing I receive.

Oh Lord, please light the fire,
That once burned bright and clear,
Replace the lamp of my first love,
That burned with holy fear.2

Gratefully, in Jesus's name. Amen.

is it Christmas, or Xmas?
It’s not unusual to see ‘Christmas’
shortened to ‘Xmas’. While many
believe that Christmas was dubbed
Xmas because people wanted to
remove all associations with Jesus
from the day, that’s a bit of an
urban myth — the X in Xmas
literally means Jesus.
The New Testament in the Bible
was written in Greek, and the word
Christ begins with the letter X:

The “X” in “Xmas” Doesn’t Take the “Christ” Out of “Christmas”
DAVEN HISKEY 38
Myth: “Xmas” is a non-religious name / spelling for “Christmas”.
It turns out, “Xmas” is not a non-religious version of “Christmas”. The “X” is actually indicating the Greek letter “Chi”, which is short for the Greek, meaning “Christ”. So “Xmas” and “Christmas” are equivalent in every way except their lettering.

In fact, although writing guides such as those issued by the New York Times; the BBC; The Christian Writer’s Manual of Style; and Oxford Press discourage the use of Xmas in formal writing, at one time, it was a very popular practice, particularly with religious scribes, who are thought to have started the whole “Xmas” thing in the first place. Indeed, the practice of using the symbol “X” in place of Christ’s name has been going on amongst religious scholars for at least 1000 years.

Eventually, this shorthand trick spread to non-religious writings where nearly everywhere “Christ” appeared in a word, the Greek Chi would replace that part of the word. For example, in the 17th and 18th centuries, there are numerous non-religious documents containing instances of “Xine”, which was a common spelling for someone whose name was Christine.

The “-mas” part on the end of Christmas and Xmas comes from the Old English word for “mass”.
Other classic common abbreviations for “Christ” were: “Xp” and “Xt”, again both an abbreviated form of the Greek for Christ.
The Greek letters “X” (Chi) and “p” (Rho) superimposed together was once a very common symbol signifying Christ and was called, somewhat unimaginatively, the Chi-Rho.
The Chi-Rho was also used by scribes in a non-religious sense to mark some passage that was particularly good, with it literally implying “good”.
In 1977, the Governor of New Hampshire issued a press release stating that journalists should cease taking the “Christ” out of “Christmas” as “Xmas” was a pagan spelling of Christmas. Perhaps he should have run that press release by a religious scholar before issuing it. :-)
Although, even those well versed and respected in Christianity often make the same mistake, such as Franklin Graham in an interview on CNN: “For us as Christians, this is one of the most holy of the holidays, the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. And for people to take Christ out of Christmas. They’re happy to say merry Xmas. Let’s just take Jesus out. And really, I think, a war against the name of Jesus Christ.”

I really appreciate the fact that you are interested in Christian discourse. Please permit me to address some of the issues raised in your write-up. First of all JESUS CHRIST is the Prince of Peace you don't need to say "peace be upon him" He is the giver of peace, He came that we may have peace and this He did by dying on the Cross paying the price for our Sin to restore peace in our relationship with God - If we believe in what he did. Some people claim Jesus was a "good prophet" but they deny that Jesus is God Just as you said- "There is not a single verse in the bible that Jesus declares to be God." Please i encourage you to consider some of this Bible Verses: Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. This passage refers to JESUS. It's a prophecy about his birth. This is another one-Matthew 1:23 - “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us This was the prophecy given to Mary (Maryam) about her conception and the baby she would bear-JESUS Then JESUS himself said this words John 8:58 - Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM. he also said this-John 14:9-11 - Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? on another occassion he also said this John 10:30-33 - Jesus answered them, “I and My Father are one.” Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?” The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” He also said this John 8:24 - “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I AM He, you will die in your sins. He also went ahead to say- John 14:6-7 - Jesus said to him, “I AM the way, the truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”. My friend please let no one deceive you through all manner of false stories that the bible has been edited many times (in other words what they are saying is that the bible is fake and only the koran can be believed as true). But to prove to you that the bible is true the miracles that Jesus did when he was here on earth those that believe in Him are still performing those miracles as he promised in the bible therefore proving that the bible is true. Even you any day you believe in JESUS He can do this miracles through you. My dear you also said- Islam is not just another religion. It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.. This is not true - for instance concerning marriage Islam permits marriage to up to four wives even Mohammed did so but JESUS preached a different message he said -3Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?" 4And He answered and said, Matthew 9:3-5"Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, 5and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE (note not wives), AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH ' There are many other instances where the teachings of JESUS differ from that of Islam, therefore you may have been misled or deceived to believe that Islam is same as the teachings of Jesus. There is a lot of difference in the teachings of JESUS and Islam, they are not the same. thanks you can reach me if you are not clear on anything. Thanks
mustymatic:
There is not a single verse in the bible that s
Jesus (peace be upon him) was born on the 25th
of December. There is not a single verse in the
bible that says anything regarding “Christmas” or
“Santa” itself. There is not a single verse in the
bible that Jesus declares to be God.
God does not need eat, Jesus did. God does not
sleep, Jesus slept. God does not pray, Jesus
prayed. God is independent, Jesus is dependent
as he prayed. God is All Knowing, Jesus has
limited knowledge and is not all knowing.
Jesus prayed, Muslims pray. Jesus fasted,
Muslims fast. Jesus kept a beard and so do
Muslim men. We love Jesus (peace be upon him)
he is our role model. Even his mother Mary who
we Muslims call her as Maryam she wore a scarf,
full loose veil which Muslim women wear because
both were Muslims.
Jesus (peace be upon him) came with a simple
message, to tell his nation to worship One God
without any partners. Bible has been edited
several times, there are so many versions and
contradictions. God sent down another Prophet
who was called Muhammad (peace be upon him)
he came to mankind not just one nation. This is
the last prophet with the last revelation as God
said he will protect this book from being altered
and changed. This book is the Qur’an till this day
it has never been changed or altered.
We invite you to look further and investigate
Islam. Islam is not just another religion. It is the
same message preached by Moses, Jesus and
Abraham. Islam literally means ‘˜submission to
God’ and it teaches us to have a direct
relationship with God. It reminds us that since
God created us, no one should be worshipped
except God alone. It also teaches that God is
nothing like a human being or like anything that
we can imagine.
The concept of God is summarised in the Qur’an
as: Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute.
He does not give birth, nor was He born, and
there is nothing like Him*. [112:1-4]
Becoming a Muslim is not changing or losing
your Christian identity. But it’s going back to the
original teachings of Jesus. Guidance ultimately
comes from God. We ask God to guide us and
you. God says:
And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said,
“O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger
of Allah to you confirming what came before me
of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a
messenger to come after me, whose name is
Ahmad.” But when he came to them with clear
evidences, they said, “This is obvious magic.” (Al
Qur’an 61 : 6)

mentorandfriend:
The catholic church celebrates a mass on 25th december every year to honour the birth of Christ. Thus Christ-Mass. Today, the world has removed the Principal (God) in many things and taken the Principal's principles. Funny enough, you'll still succeed if you embrace the principles of God without serving God. No wonder most people would rather say Oh my gosh to Oh my God.

But originally the celebration on Dec. 25th had nothing to do with the birth of the Christ, no one knows his actual birthday.

The reason people say "Oh my gosh" inplace of "Oh my God" ls because they feel that it's blaspheme to use the lord's name in vain.
