HAPPY NEW YEAR

We often wish one another a happy new year. Yet, there is no change for most people from year to year. How can we make this New Year really different?

- Happy New Year can be spelt for us in the following acronym:

*H = Hear God's Word...................................Isaiah 55:3

*A = Answer God's Call................................Isaiah 6:8

*P = Possess Purity.....................................Matthew 5:8

*P = Prioritise Preaching the gospel.........2 Timothy 4:2

*Y = Yield to God.........................................Romans 6:13

*N = Nourish others with the Word............. Acts 20:28

*E = Enter into His Rest...........................Hebrews 4:9,14

*W = Walk in Love.................................... Ephesians 5:2

*Y = Yearn for Right Use of Your Tongue... Proverbs 15:4

*E = Embrace Righteousness.............. 1 Timothy 4:12

*A = Ask in Faith..................................... James 1:6

*R = Rejoice in the Lord Always............ Philipians 4:4

Like millions of Christians, I welcomed 2014 on my knees. We can see further into the future that way. It is from that place of safety that we are reminded that whatever the future holds, it can only come by the permissive will of Almighty God. What unspeakable consolation that is! We have His immutable promise that whatever comes to us will work together for our eternal good (see Romans 8:28).

New Year’s eve is the time we celebrate that 2000 years ago Jesus Christ, God in human form, smashed death underfoot and burst open the doors of everlasting life for hopeless, dying, and damned humanity. Stay true to the faith. Trust God with all your heart, and keep your eyes on the cross. He will never fail you. See www.needGod.com if you don’t know Him…

It Is A New Day!

TEXT: ISAIAH 43:18-21

"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert" (Isaiah 43:19)

Historians have been recording the events of history since the Phoenicians in Africa invented the first alphabet. Our past is composed of many traditions, superstitions, folk tales, works of art, archaeological objects, books and written records of our accomplishments, pains and sufferings. Sometimes, we study the past to gain a better understanding of other people and places. But the purpose of most recorded history is to draw valuable lessons from which we can improve our own lives and have a better future.

The children of Israel in our text had great spiritual experiences throughout their history. From the first Passover, to the crossing of the Red Sea, to the conquering of the land of Canaan, to the building of the temple, the children of Israel had seen the hand of God at work in and through their lives. Yet, they sinned and went into captivity in Babylon for lack of faith in God. They needed a new vision and assurance of what God could do. Then, God promised to do new things for them.

Like the Israelites, many of us have made many mistakes and have experienced many setbacks and failures as a result. Sometimes, we allow these mistakes, setbacks and failures to enslave us to the point that we never enjoy the full Christian life as going forward looks very much like a complex game of chess.

Forget the past because today marks a new season of upload of great divine blessings into your life and ministry. God created the four seasons that are based on the rotation of the Earth as it orbits the Sun. The seasons change as the earth moves, but the sun in our planetary system remains constant and everything revolves around it. Much like the earth, if our lives revolve around the Son, Jesus Christ who remains constant yesterday, today and forever, changes will occur as we enter and exit many seasons. He is able to transform the desert areas of our lives into fields of blessings and abundance this New Year. It’s a new season; God will do new things for us. Happy new year!

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).

Thought for the day: "It’s a new day, arise and embrace it"

The Beginning of the Year
January 1, 2014

"A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year" (Deuteronomy 11:12)

This phrase, "the beginning of the year," occurs only twice in the Bible, here in Deuteronomy 11:12 and in Ezekiel 40:1. In this passage, the Lord, through Moses, is speaking of the promised land which He had prepared for the children of Israel, "a land of hills and valleys, [that] drinketh water of the rain of heaven" (Deuteronomy 11:11), promising great blessing on the land and its people if they obeyed God, but judgment if they disobeyed.

Although these promises were made specifically with reference to Israel, the principle surely would apply worldwide, for God "hath made of one blood all nations of men . . . and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord" (Acts 17:26-27). It certainly has applied to America, for God has certainly blessed our nation most abundantly, founded as it was in its beginnings on the principles of God’s words. Sadly, however, there are now many signs that His blessings are being withdrawn, with judgment imminent, because of the widespread apostasy and moral decay that has overtaken us.

Here, at "the beginning of the year," we can pray that America will return to the God of our fathers before it is too late and final judgment falls on our once-blessed nation. In the words of our text, "the eyes of the LORD" are on us, "from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year."

In addition to prayer, we personally can work and give and vote and live in ways that demonstrate our own personal trust in God and His Word, as well as our deep concern for our families, our churches, our nation, and God’s eternal plan for His great creation. HMM

9 Bible Verses For The New Year

In the classic children’s book Anne of Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery asks a question full of wonder: "Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?" As we start this new year, we have a full 365 days ahead of us without a single mistake…yet. And it helps start the New Year off right by remembering that Jesus gives us all a new day, wiping away the old. Start your year off right with these encouraging verses for the new year!

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…" – Ecclesiastes 3:1

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope…" – 1 Peter 1:3

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." – Jeremiah 29:11
