The boys did not play well in the 1st half. The is no presence in the midfield. The forwards are isolated. Maybe the Guineans bench have done their homework on our team. I hope the Eaglets turn things around tactically in the 2nd half. If they don't, it may be a repeat of Nig-CIV group game in 2013.

CAF u17: Eaglets Force Syli Babes To A Draw

Golden Eaglets forced their Guinean counterparts to a 1-1 draw at Stade Général Seyni Kountché (SGSK) at the on-going African U-17 Championship in Niamey on Wednesday afternoon.

Captain Kelechi Nwakali yet again rescued Nigeria with a vital equalizer in the second half from the spot kick after Sam Diallo had scored the curtain raiser in the 11th minute through a penalty kick.

With the result, Nigeria still top the Group A section on a better goal difference despite having the same four points with the Guineans.

The fifth game of the tournament got underway on a high tempo with the young Syli Nationale dominating the first 10 minutes of play by forcing the Golden Eaglets into their own half.

A minute later, Nigeria conceded a penalty after defender Lukman Halilu brought down the skillful Yamodou Toure in the box and Sam Diallo dispatched the ball behind goalkeeper Akpan Udoh.

Thereafter, it was the Guineans that showed better initiatives in the attack forcing the Golden Eaglets on the defensive time and again. Abdoulaye Jules Keita was handful on the left flank.

In the 22th minute, Victor Osimhen thought he had got the much needed equalizer but his powerful header off a cross form Samuel Chukwueze was disallowed by referee Jean Jacques Ngambo.

Almost at the stroke of half time, Halilu almost cost Nigeria a second goal after he spilled the ball again on the path of Ibrahima Camara whose faint-hearted shot was cuddled by Akpan.

Coach Emmanuel Amuneke brought in Ebere Osinachi for Christian Charles to add more bite into the attack.

The permutation seemed to have paid off as Osinachi troubled the opposing team. In the 55th minute, he laid a pass for Kingsley Michael who saw his shot over the bar.

Three minutes after, goalkeeper Udoh stopped what could have been a second goal for Guinea as he touched away Jules Keita's volley.

But with the game five minutes away from stoppage time, the rough Guineans were punished for a foul in the box and Nwakali picked his angle; and fired the ball into the net.

The Golden Eaglets last and decisive game will be played against Zambia on Saturday at the Municipal Stadium in Niamey.

Golden Eaglets XI: Akpan Udoh, Lazarus John, Usman Abass, Ayodeji Bamidele, Abdullahi Suleiman (Orji Okwonkwo 70'), Kingsley Michael (Uko Anietie 55'), Kelechi Nwakali, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Christian Charles (Christian Ebere Osinachi 45') , Zakari Lukman Halilu

Subs Not Used: Emeka Nwokeocha, Amos Innocent Benjamin, Maxwell Paul, Saddam Awal, Chibueze Sunday Kanu, Suleiman Muhammed, Nazifi Yahaya

Amuneke: This Was Our Worst Performance

Coach of Nigeria's U17, Emmanuel Amuneke has shared a no holds bar opinion about his wards performance in their second match at the ongoing 11th African U-17 Championship against Guinea, labeling it as the worst.

Tournament favorite, Eaglets were put to a real test when the Guineans came calling in a pulsating 1-1 draw, the Nigerians seemingly collapsed in the first stanza as the young Syli Nationale had better initiatives and deservedly went into the lead
after Nigeria conceded a soft penalty in the 11th minute.

Captain Kelechi Nwakali later got the equalizer albeit through a spot kick towards the end of the match much to the relive of Nigerians at the stadium.

But speaking at the post match conference, Amuneke said he was shocked about the team's performance especially in the first half, even as he praised their resilience for salvaging a point.

"Frankly, this was our worst performance and the worst I have seen from these boys because we lost the initiative and composure of the game to the Guineans, "he explained.

" We knew that the Guineans have some good individual players in No. 8( Abdul Karim Conte); No. 11( Abdoulaye Jules Keita) and No. 14( Yamodou Toure) but we expected our boys to compose themselves much better." said Amuneke

He however admitted that the tactical changes he made thereafter in the second half helped the team as Ebere Osinachi and Orji Okonkwo who respectively replaced Christian Charles and Suleiman Abdullahi forced the Guineans to commit several fouls.

The match actually saw hard man, Alseny Soumah getting the matching order with six others cautioned by Congolese referee Jean Jacques Ngambo.

"Of course, I want to praise the players for their resilience in getting a draw against Guinea because this was a difficult game for them," he maintained.

"We played much better in the second half and it was good we got the equalizer. I'm not the referee and I think he is in better position to know if our equalizer was a good penalty or not. We deserved what we got but we would continue to work more for the coming matches." Amuneke stated.

Nigeria must at least guide against a defeat in their last Group A match against Zambia on Saturday to have a realistic chance of qualifying for the semi finals as well as the much sought after ticket to the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup slated for Chile later this year.

Manchester City Keeping Tabs On Kelechi Nwakali

SL10.ng understands that Manchester City are among clubs based in Europe keeping tabs on Golden Eaglets attacking midfielder Kelechi Nwakali at the ongoing CAF Under 17 Championship.

Just after two games in Group A, the Emmanuel Amuneke Academy product has caught the eye of a number of high profile teams, and it appears The Citizens are in the driving seat for his signature.

Manchester City have already opened a line of communication with Kelechi Nwakali's camp regarding the offer of a preliminary contract.

Should defending champions Nigeria qualify for the Fifa Under 17s, as widely expected, the Etihad Stadium outfit are aware the 16 - year - old's stock will rise even further, and have taken the first step to snapping
him up from his nursery team.

Kelechi Nwakali is skillful, has a good range of passing, and has an eye for a pass, which has drawn comparisons with ex Bolton Wanderers midfielder Austin Okocha, though he is faster than the retired Nigeria
international.

The Golden Eaglets skipper would welcome the chance to join the Nigerians on the books of Manchester City, including his elder brother Chidiebere Nwakali and Kelechi Iheanacho.

He has found the back of the net in both matches played by the Nigeria Under 17s in the Republic of Niger.

Alampasu Congratulates Eaglets On WC Qualification

Former Golden Eaglets goalkeeper, Dele Alampasu has congratulated the Nigerian U17 boys football team, after they qualified for the FIFA U17 World Cup by finishing top of their group at the ongoing CAF U17 championship.

The Eaglets finished as group A winners with seven points, having beaten hosts Niger and Zambia, and secured a draw against Guinea in between.

“I feel very happy for them, I think they’ve done well by qualifying for the World Cup and also finishing top of their group. It somehow reminds me of our time.

“Of course we didn’t win it, but I pray they win it this time and make Nigeria proud. It will definitely be a thing of joy to all of us if that happens,” he told SL10.ng.

Alampasu was Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper at the last FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, and when asked to compare the present U17 team to that of 2013, here is what he thought.

“It’s difficult to compare because they are two different teams. We had some very good players in our team and I know they have some very good players as well now.

“But I guess we will have to wait a little longer to be sure of which is better because they are just starting and we won the World Cup,” Alampasu said.

Osimhen Vows To Stay Focused For Eaglets

Inform Eaglets forward, Victor Osimhen has admitted that it would be an effort in futility if he emerges as Niger 2015 top scorer without the Golden Eaglets as champions of Africa.

During the qualifiers to Niger 2015, Victo Osimhen, emerge as Eaglets top scorer with an impressive 18 goals in 38 (official and friendly)matches and has scored thrice at the Africa U17 Championship including two spectacular goals against Zambia on Saturday.

"Yes , we are happy that we have qualified for the World Cup and priority now is to ensure that we win the trophy because it would be meaningless even if I finish the top scorer," said Osimhen

Incidentally, Osimhen and captain Kelechi Nwakali are the only two Golden Eaglets on the Niger 2015 score sheet as they equally share six goals between themselves but the lad noted it was just a mere a coincidence.

"Personally, I'm not thinking as an individual because the team comes first;" he maintained.

" I'm not thinking towards that because we have so many other good players who can score goals for us too."

Golden Eaglets' coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, described Osimhen's brace against Zambia as spectacular: "The first goal (by Victor) was beautiful; the second goal (by Nwakali) is what we call in Spain, 'spectacle'; and you look at Victor's second goal which was also a spectacle."Amuneke in smiles.
