I don't think it will be an effective strategy to call off the strike but if it is the aim of this move, the federal government may have activated a protracted illness. The Federal government should reopen he borders for doctors by reintroducing USMLE and the likes so progress is pursued by those who crave it and stark retardation by those who think the world is a still object. |

Kossyne: Sorry I am bit lost here. What's Residency training all about?. What are the implications of this move by the FGIt, means that abt 80% of the doctors has been sacked...so the formal Doctor patient ratio!which was 1:6400 has now increased to 1:100000 . and the old specialist by the tym they retire, there wld be no new specialist in nigeria...kajikuo! 1 Like |

that's serve them right when u think you are bigger then your employer not even employee your guardian.these guys are not even a trade union ,they are not affiliate of NLC they are just group of deluded egoistic selfish homo habilis that is stuck on the evolution high way. 1 you want federal govt not to pay other health workers what they agreed 2 you want fed govt to overturn a court ruling on consultancies for other health care 3 you want fed government to pay you 100k hazard allowance not minding that d hazard u face is minimal compare to d one face by the orderly or health attendant that clean up the mess they did and left, the nurse that is with d patient 24/7 lab scientist that deals with biohazard everyday.as at now a doctor have died of Ebola,2 nurses have died and about 9 on quarantine this tells you who is more exposed to hazards in hospital. 4 they went to be trained abroad to be they don't want other health Proff to be directors kai!!!!!! what is it? I advice Ebele to state it that any body coming in on residency shld not belong to any association ,never go on strike ,never negotiate with any body etc.these guys are daft the didn't know WHEN TO LET GO that is their undoing. 12 Likes |

enny09: When government pay so much to train only doctors residency program in Nigeria and instead of doctors to be greatful they still threatened government with strikes, what do you expect government to do, now government will use the money to employ and pay only full term staff to work in the hospital, and if any medical professionals want residency program you will have to pay for it yourself, simple as ABC. I don't know why people don't reason before they say something.if the federal government decide to suspend residency program it means residency program will no longer be done in Nigeria. this will result will a great brain drain that has never been seen before that will later affect the masses of this country. |

Nigerians and the Doctors will suffer for this again. Let's be honest, I don't expect brain drain. I'm not aware of countries falling over themselves to have Nigerian trained doctors rather hurdles are being created to prevent Nigerian trained doctors practicing outside our shores especially in saner climes. 3 Likes |

This is s step in the right direction by the Jonathan administration. These incompetent fools addressed as doctors cannot hold us to ransom. In trying times like this when ebola virus is threatening to wipe out our very existence, these fools are happily on strike and you want the FG to relax and watch these renegade crumble the health sector as a result of superiority fight? The same people that enjoy various privileges including highest paid during NYSC and various bursaries are the ones engaging the government in a faceoff. The Fashola administration used the same approach of locums and put an end to a seeming situation some time ago. I have a younger sister who is a medical doctor and I have told her severally that I am disappointed in the NMA, MDCN and whatever umbrella you group. No going back by the FGN! 9 Likes |

our ignoramus President continues from where he stop, he can't do without breaking records over records, I don't expect sensible policy from a cretin. he's the first president in whole world to sack all lecturer in a country, he also set a new record to be the only president to sack all resident Doctors because they are demanding for their right. they should call this aberrant man called GEJ in order. what a totalitarian decision? 4 Likes |

Seriously I think the federal govt. of Nigeria has no value for it's citizens health. Our hospitals looks empty as though Nigerians have all been in perfect health condition, yet people die daily because they're sick. Mr president, pls do something to solve this issue. Btw just incase you didn't know it's called medical practice for a reason, you need a good wealth of experience to manage patients effectively sacking doctors really makes me conclude that my dear president might really really be clueless! 1 Like |

Bluetooth2: See oh, what I have seen in Nigeria is that, the quality of doctor you get depends on who you know and how polite you are. I was very sick recently, and saw a doctor (a lousy one) and nurses (horrifyingly bad to the point that I used to request only one particular nurse) at a private hospital. Immediately a former consultant at LUTH came to visit me and asked for a referral, I got 3 Consultants, 1 Internist and 1 Surgeon looking at my case file. It took them 2 hours to demand tests from the best lab in the country. In a week, I was better. Because money does not get you the best doctors in Nigeria, having a doctor in your family who is very respected will get you the numbers of the only 3 Neurosurgeons in Nigeria. Give them good facilities, most doctors are not demanding to be richer than bank manager sef (unless our specialists, like Cardiovascular Surgeon or Research Paedetrician). Cooking the right soup for the right doctor will get you better healthcare in Nigeria than millions. Nurses in private hospitals will NEVER wear latex glove to give you injection, yet we continually shout "HIV, HIV", go to Nig. Navy hospital in Ojo, thos nurses won't do breast exam without gloves sef, you will feel so unloved. But that is what every nurse should be doing. Yet they want to be called "Consultant Nurse". Me, I don't mind Dr. Pharmacist or anyone who has earned the right to that title, with experience and first-class training. Raise the bar high, for everyone, then tell them "you will get all your needs met and have a seat on the board, with experience and training". Most Nigerian nurses were unaware of an ebola outbreak in West Africa, in May, when I asked. Even one geh calling herself "pyschologist" at private hospital was unaware, talkless of the GP that worked in her hospital. I almost wept. 4 Likes |
