We are all part of the commonwealth of the former British Empire. So why can't Chukar become UK that would be a great day for Nigeria!

Trust me, the Brits are not that racist as you think!

You need to live in any East European Country (Russia and those break-away republics) or Germany.
Worst amongst the core racist countries is "tiny" Ireland!

Whites in general are very racist but if we compare like-for-like, Britain ranks a bit high in tolerance.

BTW: I nterms of "similarity" between Chuka and Obama, most notable is the "ELEPHANT EARS"! grin grin grin

Am wondering, ...just wondering,... this guy is not yet 40yrs and he is as bald as an Eagle (Maybe a Super Eagle sef!) ..yet his father was very hairy, just like Obama's father! shocked shocked

I wish him luck but l hope he wont be just another "Oyinbo in a "brown-skin", being more of a liability to the black race, ...like Obama who is constantly talking down his black heritage just to please his white-benefactors?

Igbo-kwenu! Kweenu!!

i know this will someday happen but not in this present day and age, government is racially institutionalized. See how popular the EPL is but one could hardly find a Black manager or in the FA not talk about ruling the nation. Most kids are taught at home and then grow up here with the idea that they are superior to the black man, it will take generations and time to change this mentality, and that is even if it will ever get addressed.

'Chuka believed his father was killed because he refused to indulge in corrupt practices when he was running for the governorship of Anambra State during the administration of former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.).

Bennett died after his car ran into a lorry carrying logs along the Onitsha-Owerri highway in Anambra. Bennett had been splitting his time between London and Nigeria – where he unsuccessfully ran for the governorship of Anambra State and had taken a stand against bribery.'

Punch must be banned. This 'clueless' toilet paper continues to mislead Nigerians. Chuka Umunna cannot be the prime minister of UK in 2015, etc because he is not a leader of any political party or his party to be particular. He is currently in the shadow cabinet of the Labour Party, led by the admirable Ed Miliband. Why is it that Punch and SR do not even bother to google information and go off to publish controvertible thrash. Am out of here ...

I think you're the one with reading problems. The newspaper actually did a good job in explaining everything the right way, and how the British system works. And I don't think anyone alluded to 2015.

Excerpts from the article:

The 35-year-old Labour Party Member of Parliament, however, has two hurdles to cross if he is to make history in the UK. This is because in the UK, for one to become the Prime Minister, the person must first be a Member of Parliament, the person’s party must win majority of seats out of the 560 seats in the House of Commons during the parliamentary elections and the person must be the leader of his party.

Presently, Chuka is the Member of Parliament for Streatham, a position he has held since 2010 but must re-contest in 2015 and win to retain the seat.

Why are we going on and on about this guy? It's not Chuka that's that good. It's the environment he finds himself in. If he is to be a politician in Nigeria, he'll be worse than GEJ.

If GEJ becomes an MP in this UK, he will be the best politician he can ever be.

The only reason most of the politicians here are honest is because they will get punished if they are found to be corrupt. It's more of nurture than nature.

Our society tolerates corruption. We allow them get away with it. It doesn't happen in the developed world.

Bottom line, UK isn't ripe for a black Prime Minister. Chuka Umuna will never become a PM.

naijaking1: UK residents would certainly know better, but I think this article doesn't do Umunna any favors at all.
If you look at the false title of the article, you'll immediately know that his enemies wrote it. Umunna refers to UK as his country, but the authors made a business of identifying him as a "Nigerian"
If you can't understand the public relation hatchet job done on his guy, just remember 'Cardinal Arinze who would become the first black pope in histor'

That cardinal still remind me of Igbo man penchant for success against all odds

No wonder the west said that they can't afford another Japan in Africa if Biafra succeed

Now I know better

Helen Grant (born 28 September 1961)[2] is a British Conservative Party politician and solicitor. She is the current Member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald in Kent and the current Minister for Sport and Equalities. She was elected at the 2010 general election, replacing the constituency's previous incumbent, Ann Widdecombe, who had decided to step down as an MP. Grant was the first black woman to be selected to defend a Tory seat and her election made her the Conservatives' first female black MP.[3]

Grant received her first government appointment in September 2012, when she received the dual roles of Under-Secretary of State for Justice and Under-Secretary for Women and Equalities. Grant attracted media attention in November 2012 after it emerged she was allowed to claim the maximum expenses allowed within the IPSA rules for a London flat, despite her family home being within 20 miles of London.

Grant was born in Willesden, north London to an English mother and Nigerian father, but grew up in a single parent family after her parents separated and her father emigrated to the United States.[4][5]

Chuka Harrison Umunna (born 17 October 1978) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Streatham since 2010 and the Shadow Business Secretary since 2011.[1]

All our Naija MPs are mixed race but we will take that. grin grin Heck, we even have a Polish MP, can the Ghanaians top that?
