Depression can't always be an excuse. Folks also need to start owning up to their negligence, and trying to cover-up what's wrong with them, especially when it comes to mental health problems. I know there's a stigma in the society about mental health problems - however if folks start seeking help early, a lot of suicides can be avoided. But the problem with most folks is that: they'd rather die silently, than own up to what's wrong with them. For example: black people are the most likely to have mental health problems, but we're also the most likely to live in denial and act as if all is well, due to the stigma associated with it.

Stats for suicides in the UK and US:

- UK: overall suicide rate in the UK increased from 11.1 to 11.8 per 100,000, while the highest suicide rate was among men aged 30 to 44 at 23.5 deaths per 100,000. (http://news.sky.com/story/1041290/significant-rise-in-the-number-of-suicides)

Anyway, the horrific way in which she took her own life is saddening. I can only imagine the excruciating pain she went through before she died. Somewhat reminiscent of one of my family friends who tried to kill himself by jumping off the bridge, but ended up messing up his spinal cord, and he has been wheelchair ridden for more than two years now -sad. And the reason why he was depressed was basically because of some trivial racial issues he had at work, and the fact that he couldn't cope with family life, just made the whole thing annoying. He knew he was suffering from depression - but kept it to himself and didn't even bother to seek medical help. So, it's difficult feeling sorry for people like that, to be honest.
