Many lovers get engrossed in their relationship, so much that it becomes quite difficult for them to hold back their amorous feelings for each other within the confines of their own ideal love world. As such, they put out the glamour of their relationships on their various social media accounts (twitter, Facebook, nairaland) to express better the spill over of their romantic feelings. Now, I am not talking about online amorous chitchats where the persons involved usually just play out to have fun but haven't really met or had anything to do together in reality. Instead, I am referring to relationships that started in real life, or those that started online and eventually made things real. A weird drama played out yesterday on the popular micro blog, twitter, where things turned awry between those involved. Apparently as they washed their dirty linens in public and reeled out some information, a couple who had always displayed their affection using their twiticons and bio had made real life contacts and a lot had gone down between them. Yes a whole lot! A third party who is a lady, got caught in unhealthy jealousy over the couple's PDA and relationship and decided to have her way. The two ladies probably had some beef and the jealous one took on their relationship. No relationship is perfect, the girlfriend had made some mistakes which the jealous lady would now use against her. To save you every other awry detail, right there in our faces, nude pictures of the lady in the relationship littered the blogosphere. I could only imagine the psychological impact that must have had on her as a lady. Some couples get involved in online PDA just to pour out the excesses of their genuine intimate feelings in sincerity. Others do it to attract undue attention. There is another class that use it as a facade over their insecurity- that yes, my man or woman is taken, don't touch! Some observers on the microblog opined that it is best to keep one's relationship private to avoid such quagmire. Others maintained that a relationship that was destined to crash would crash, whether displayed publicly or not. So dear nairalanders, do you think PDA does more bad than good to a relationship or it is simply harmless? Where should the line be drawn if one must get involved in such? 7 Likes 3 Shares |

The only place PDA is cool to me is Nairaland. There is censorship here and retweets and the like is non-existent. Elsewhere, mehn, no. Except if we are getting married that week. Too many haters out there. Too many who want to be in the middle of your business. 3 Likes 1 Share |

PDA online is totally ridiculous and absurd. A No, No. But offline, I'm very much okay with it. Holding hands and little pecks are really cute but aside from this, other acts of affection should be private. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I don't like flaunting my private life on any social platform, it's private and should remain so. |

The world is becoming very technical and people tend to move with the pace in which it's advancing... Nowadays,,85% of young people cannot do without social network...their lives depend on it. They eat social network,,sleep social network and even dream social network. It has become a very essential part of many people's life,,really...and so I don't blame most young people when they display affection online. We have many people who meet and date online,,though they may never see because of distance,,displaying their affection online is the only possible way for them to show that they are hooked with someone else. Permit me to say that there may be a time when couples will do their engagement online(through skype),,introduction online and even have their wedding online.. The world is becoming a global village and this social network has eaten deep into the social life of we young ones... Doing without it is like a taboo. My 2Cedis 2 Likes |

The OP and the comments I've read above couldn't be farther from the truth. If I were to date a NL'er today, as in, for real dating, no one'd know about it. Not with the things I've seen lately. Only my best of the best buddies'd be aware, and they'll only know when I'm sure that we're really serious about each other. This is a personal opinion and I'm not saying it's wrong to think other wise. Different strokes, Different folks. Even when I see such acts as sheer naivety, I try not to judge/condemn them. The least I can do is either wish them well or give them grace by shutting up (including my thoughts) and minding my own business. Ultimately, it is what it is. Signed: Mizmycoli (f) 1 Like |

I'm a very private person when it comes to my relationship. I don't go shoving it in people's faces. Most people will go gushing on bbm I love my boo, I miss my boo just to attract silly attention. WE know you love your boo ok!!! Howz that suppose to be my bizness. BUT if you decide to do it offline, cool. I got no problem with that, you can even kiss in the cinema. Lol. Well well well. |
Re: On Online Public Display Of Affection by Jennydoris(f): 5:09pm On Sep 27, 2014 |
PDA! I have not seen anything good about it because so many people now fake it and some have given it a total different meaning from what it's meant for. You will see a girl with an update around 10.pm on Friday saying "having some fun with my boo" with all tongues out only for her to update by Saturday around 10.am "men, are wicked creature". All follow for PDA abii? Who is fooling who. Even married men in real life now fake being single on social network and married women fake being single too. No girl is engaged again. It's either she is single, engaged(only God knows oo) or she is in a complicated relationship. And guys too, they are always single even the ones that are married with kids. Some use it as a show off. I pity my fellow girls that believes in a girls PDA that says she is engaged. I only believe such crap until I see your wedding pics or anything of that sort. Even wedding pics can now be faked. In fact some or if not all updates on social network concerning dating and relationship are wash wash. |

naijaboiy: The world is becoming very technical and people tend to move with the pace in which it's advancing...Sorry mister, your 10cedis talked about those who don't get to meet which I exempted in my op. All that boils to having online fun. It was noted but deliberately exempted. |

destante: Sorry mister, your 10cedis talked about those who don't get to meet which I exempted in my op. All that boils to having online fun. It was noted but deliberately exempted. It doesn't change the fact that most young people have allowed social network to be a very essential part of their life and as such they display affections even when they meet and see everyday... The part which you exempted in your op is just a cited example to buttress my points clearly |
