I've always suspected that these attacks are being sponsored by outside elements not from Kogi!

If you've followed threads and posts showing the wicked machinations that have gone on to weaken us economically; like in '66 when Igboland was dismembered, with resource-rich parts placed in Rivers state; denying us an int'l airport; denying us billion dollar investments/industries (which were sometimes out rightly stolen from us and placed in other regions); and more recent occurrences like when OBJ unilaterally ceded Abia oil wells to Rivers state.....if you're aware of all this then what's happening with the killings by mercenaries in Anambra, and the years it's taking to delineate a small stretch of land between Anambra and Kogi shouldn't come as a surprise to you!

The fact of the matter is that some are not happy with the fact Alaigbo is on the up-and-up and is using an indigenous company to exploit its oil and gas resources! These wicked elements are being eaten up with envy and are trying to see how they can bring Anambra (and by extension Alaigbo) back down to the level 'they're supposed to operate at'! For them Alaigbo and Ndigbo are not supposed to have such economic success that they leave 'the owners of Nigeria' and their southern allies in the shade! Even this one that many South Eastern states are not struggling like others to pay workers has gotten them befuddled and envious, and the general attitude by them is: 'how dare these people show us up like this'!

I've always insisted that these wicked animals will always be envious of us and always plot to do us harm and impede our progress for as long as we remain in the same country with them.....they're pure unadultrated evil! It's either the polity is restructured or we find a way to leave 'one Nigeria' for them!

Part of the blame should also lay at the doorstep of our useless elite! By now they should have insisted that the boundary commission come out with its findings one way or the other, and they should have put together some kind of vigilante protection force for that trouble spot to try and catch the vermin as they sneak in to slaughter innocent people! I'm sure these murderers links can be traced back one way or the other to either Fulani herdsmen or the bloodthirsty bokos!

It's the stupid gullible Igbos still believing in 'one Nigeria' that i pity the most!

The bordering communities of Aguleri, Umueri, Anam,... Should come together and form a vigilante group that would mount a 24/7 surveillance within and around the villages/areas that may be targets in case of subsequent attacks.

The state government and the management of Orient petroleum is not left out on this as they should contribute their quota by ensuring that the vigilante group is well armed and their welfare taken care of.

Obiano should not bank on the Nigerian police cos they can not be trusted with the security of lives and properties any more. These communities are more than capable of protecting their territories.

In as much as I hate to sound sentimental, I see the recent attack a plot to cause sectarian violence with the view of involving the federal government, and under the present dispensation, we know what that spells for the "5%" region... Your take is as good as mine.

So I'll advice that, in as much as we can comfortably resist any form of attack from the so called Igala community, we should explore other viable and plausible diplomatic options in tackling this problem.

Disclaimer:

I'm in no way suggesting we pacify anybody, group or community in the name of diplomacy.

Thank you!

Anambra Govt. to upgrade 3 hospitals

Dr Sunny Ekwunife, Senior Special Adviser to Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra on General Hospitals, has said that three selected hospitals would be upgraded to a world class status in the state.

Ekwunife disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Awka.
According to him, the benefiting hospitals are General Hospital Onitsha, General Hospital Enugwu-Ukwu and General Hospital Ekwulobia.

“The governor gave us the mandate to take a look at the state hospitals and we chose three of them to be of international standard.

“The upgrading will go a long way in promoting medical tourism with the beneficial effect of generating more funds into the state coffers,” he said.

Ekwunife said that government had also embarked on the uplift of other 15 selected hospitals to cater effectively for the needs of the citizens.

“In order to address the excesses of private hospitals in Anambra, government has approved the equipment of 15 hospitals with drugs and staff.

“We will be providing all their needs, which range from drilling of boreholes, rehabilitating buildings, providing drugs and increasing staff strength,” he said.

1,000 PDP Members Defect To APGA In Anambra
No fewer than 1,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra.

The members took the action at the swearing-in of the newly elected members of APGA state executive committee in Awka.

One of the defectors Mr Uchenna Umerie, a former lawmaker in the state, said he decided to dump the PDP for APGA because the administration of Gov. Willie Obiano was doing well.

He said that he could no longer cope with the protracted crisis in state chapter of the PDP.

Mr Tokas Ohazuluike a PDP lawmaker in the state representing Ihiala constituency, said he and his supporters had no option than join hands with the APGA led administration to build the state.

Dr Victor Oye, APGA National chairman welcomed the defectors and promised a level playing ground for everybody.

He said that the formal swearing-in of the new leadership of the party was to give them legal backing to perform their function as contained in the party’s constitution.

In his remark Gov. Willie Obiano described the event as ‘Pentecost’ and urged the new leadership to perform their duties with `boldness and conviction.’

He urged them to spread the message of unity and love to all members of the party and assured them of his support.

The governor said the `good work’ of his government would make the next election a walkover for APGA in Anambra. (NAN)

Obiano's administration generates over $2bn IGR

The Member representing Onitsha South One Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mr. Patrick Aniuno, has attributed over two billion dollars investment attracted to the state by Governor Willie Obiano to his commitment to boosting the state Internally Generated Revenue.
Speaking during plenary, Mr. Aniuno described the Governor as a man who has demonstrated his economic acumen in prompt payment of worker’s salary, when most Governors are indebted to civil servants in their various states.
The Lawmaker noted that his laudable achievements in security, Agriculture, Education, among others, within one year, clearly indicate that the Governor places high premium on the welfare of the citizenry.
He assured that his constituency will always partner with the Governor to fast track the development of the state.
On his part, the member representing Ogbaru Two Constituency, Mr. Somtochukwu Udenze, noted that in no distant time, Anambra State will be competing with Lagos, in terms of Internally Generated Revenue, as Governor Obiano has put all machineries in motion to improve the revenue profile of the state.

Reps Task Army, Navy Chiefs On restoration of peace in Anambra/kogi boundary dispute

The House of Representatives yesterday waded into the ongoing boundary dispute between border communities of Anambra and Kogi states by urging the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai; and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, to deploy military personnel to the warring areas with a view to restoring peace and security.
The resolution followed a motion on a matter of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Peter Madubueze Obiano (APGA, Anambra) on “The Perennial War Between
Enugu-Otu and Eziagulu-Otu in Anambra State and Odeke/Echohon communities in Ibaji local government area of Kogi State”. Obiano in his lead debate told lawmakers that the motion became necessary due to the fact that many lives are being lost on a daily basis and the need for the House to step into the matter so as to restore peace and save lives.
The motion which was co-sponsored by Hon. Emmanuel Egwu from Kogi State whose constituency includes the boundary communities involved in the crisis, revealed
that the aforementioned communities have been engaging themselves in inter communal war over the years over ownership of land between them.

Its not Atani, Atani is the capital of Ogbaru and very close after Odekpe and Ohita.

its Ogwu Aniocha, they are in Ogbaru but they go their villa through Ihiala, they have boundaries with both Oguta Imo State and Ndoni Rivers State but a Bridge need to be constructed to access the divide.

If they are traveling with vehicle they will move through Atani Rd but that will be very far though Obi worked the road but with Okada they can just drop at Ihiala and go to their house.

They are surrounded by rivers, before the Ogwu Aniocha is Ogwu Ikpere the hometown of Chu Chu Onyema former HoR member, though the town is at war with the king but the situation is under control now.
There's a land boundary in Ogwu-Ikpele that links to Ase - Isukwe Ndoni River state. Btw Ogwu-Ikpele and Ogwu Aniocha is in different places, there's no major road linking both communities.

Nigeria: Making IVM a Truly Nigerian Auto Brand
That the chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Limited (IVM), Dr. Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma's entrepreneurial audacity and innovation placed Nigeria on the global map of auto manufacturers is no longer news. The laudable breakthrough was in response to former President Goodluck Jonathan's think home play global auto policy.

Jonathan's administration under the watch of former Minister of Industries, Trade and Investments, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, had introduced Buy Made In Nigeria policy, which aimed at not only to protect and encourage local manufacturers but also work with them to achieve internationally acceptable standards to enable them compete globally.

At the launch of IVM cars at its Nnewi, Anambra State production facility in November 2014, Aganga, while commending Innoson's ingenuity and leadership in Nigeria auto industry had described as "special and historic" the unveiling of the "first Made in Nigeria car by the Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company Limited (IVM)." He said: "We say Made in Nigeria car because most of the parts are manufactured here in Nnewi, because there is no one factory today that does everything. I have been reliably informed that today we are unveiling cars that have 70% local content. I am very delighted because Nnewi is the Japan of Africa. This town is the home of truly made in Nigeria cars. This is a milestone in the implementation of the Federal Government auto policy under President Goodluck Jonathan."

Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) President, Mr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, who was also present at the launch, affirmed the 70per cent local content claim. He traced the relationship between NSE and IVM to 2011 from when NSE started monitoring IVM's steady progress in revolutionising the auto industry till it achieved the record 70per cent local content, a feat that has earned Dr. Chukwuma an enviable seat at NSE's Hall of Fame as the 19th member in the society's 60 year history. Unveiled were three sedan car variants of IVM Fox, IVM Umu and IVM Uzo.

Continued=>>>>>IVM and Employment Generation

Through this daring feat, IVM has created huge employment opportunities. Aganga observed "Because of the local content and what he has done; he employs 1200 people in this plant, he employs additional 4000 + in his plastic industry, in total he employs about 7200 people. When you look at all the auto industry and in this country today, Innoson is number one in terms of creating jobs." In an interview, Chukwuma said given the right environment IVM would sustain the current giant strides with potential to create additional 1,200 jobs. Besides, its huge contribution to the coffers of Anambra state government in terms of taxes cannot be underestimated.

Supporting IVM

One of the key provisions of the auto policy was that federal government should support the policy thrust through patronage. The federal government and Anambra State government under Governor Peter Obi were major IVM customers. In addition they provided enabling operational environment for the operation of the business.

Interestingly, despite generous commendations its milestone achievements and assurances of support Governor Willie Obiano shocked not a few Nigerians when he bought Indian Tata in preference to IVM in his first major purchase of auto products; an action generally criticized as being done in violation of the laudable auto policy and which competitors are reportedly latching on to demark IVM brand. A concerned economist who craved anonymity in his reaction said "It's a failure on Anambra state government not to have purchased the vehicles from IVM, a company that pays taxes to its coffers and employs its citizens. Such action I dare say must have been taken in ignorance because the more successful the IVM Company is the more taxes it pays to the government especially as a local company that has been endorsed to produce vehicles that are up to global standards."

Alternative Income Source

However, with the dwindling oil revenue, and need to urgently develop alternative source of income to sustain development and create employment opportunities by the new administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, it becomes expedient that the new administration should among other things look in the direction of IVM and other local manufacturers. Besides, many global players doing businesses in Nigeria first deployed protectionist laws to grow their brands as well compete favorably in foreign markets. Again, while some of these countries have their auto brands, IVM could be rightly said to be the only truly Nigerian brand. Stakeholders therefore drum on the need for governments at all levels to support the brand to compete favourably not only in Nigeria but in global auto market.

As Buhari settles in, one area needs expedited action to actualise this laudable objective stakeholders say is the fulfill his predicessors promise of establishment of motor components manufacturing company in Nnewi which currently produces over 60 % of locally made spare parts to feed the raw material needs of the auto firm and other local enterprises in the country. And to make this possible Anambra State government should also endeavor to sign C of O for a land where the facility would be located.

Protectionist Policies to Drive Growth

With petro dollar drying up local manufacture would be the logical thing to turn to at this time with government throwing its weight behind local producers to create a level playing ground for all stakeholders. Government policies must be geared towards this direction. The containment of forex supply to importers of certain categories of products by the Central Bank of Nigeria according to apex banks governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele is to discourage import and encourage local production of such categories of goods was a step in good direction. This policy if matched with provision of enabling operational environment like good transport system, regular power supply, low interest loans, water supply, good regulatory environment would reduce costs and advance growth in the real sector of the economy. By these actions local industries can be protected from unfair competition from more advanced economies with low over heads and which themselves have protectionist policies in place in their countries.

Organised labour has also lent their voice to this clamour when the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Abdulwaheed Omar expressed concern recently in Abuja over some recent policy changes by government said such policy summersault will hurt local industries. In his words "While we recognize that we have regional obligations, we wish to appeal to Mr. President to take a second look at this with a view to protecting jobs. We need to enact policies to protect domestic industries, which in the long run are the engines for creating sustainable jobs."

These protectionist policies are global practice put in place to protect and encourage local producers. For instance America protects its agricultural industry; they buy up excess produce to ensure farmers go back to farm next season. Mahindra, Tata and Maruti, all India auto brands remain the most popular brands in India. India did not leave its flanks open for this to happen. Japan, the third largest automobile market in the world, after China and USA, through a deliberate government policy has maintained the most protectionist and closed auto markets in the industrialised world. While it controls about 96per cent of its domestic market its imports measures a mere 3.9per cent of the market. On the other hand Japan exports over 40per cent of its car and truck production, exporting nearly 60per cent in 2008. Report has it that since 2000, US exports to Japan 183,000 versus 16.3 million vehicles exported from Japan to the United States representing over 70% ($52.1 billion of the total ($72.7 billion) US-Japan automotive trade deficit in 2008.

Such policies are born out of patriotism by supporting local firms to thrive. Given such support, pundits argue that IVM can compete globally as its vehicles meet global standard in quality as they are subjected to same various vigorous tests and endorsements by different regulatory agencies including Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), National Automotive Council, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) among other regulatory agencies as those given to foreign brands of vehicles entering the Nigerian market to ensure they meet our local standards before they are allowed entry into Nigerian markets. "IVM is as good as IBM cars because they carry the same quality standard in Nigeria. It cannot be correct therefore to say that IVM is not of equal standard." Daniel Okonkwo, an engineer maintained.

Engr. Okonkwo added "Most problems are thrust on local manufacturers by poor processes of governance. For instance companies operating in Nigeria in addition to their primary responsibility of manufacturing tar their own roads, generate their own power. Though it can be said to have improved in recent times power constitute a major raw material to auto manufacturing. The fact that Nigeria doesn't have reliable and dependable power supply most global auto manufacturers like Ford have shunned producing locally in Nigeria. That IVM broke the odds in establishing an auto company in Nigeria at the time it did and even made history in producing about 70 percent of its inputs locally was not only audacious but also a demonstration of its confidence in the growth and development of Anambra State in particular and Nigerian economy in general. If government functions better companies can function better. If governments should ensure that IVM has everything it needs to function well, road, water, electricity, no multiple taxation, access to loans with reasonable rate to enable it compete optimally with other foreign manufacturers Nigeria would be on its part to building its local auto brand."

Federal government will push that states as a matter of patriotism and as a means of job creation patronize locally made products. Going by assurances given by Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who represented the state government at the unveiling of IVM cars, the state has assured on provision of enabling environment and partnership with all well-meaning industrialists by Anambra State government. He said the only way IVM can thrive is by patronage. A position that was collaborated by the Commissioner for Information in a telephone interview with our correspondent said Governor Obiano has assured that the state would soon buy vehicles from IVM.

Chamber urges Southeast governors on export promotion
The Onitsha Chamber of Commerce has urged Southeast governors to show more commitment to export promotion.

Speaking on the need to change the trend of business from import to export in the Southeast in Onitsha, the new President of the chamber, Mr Uchenna Apakama, said that the export of agro-allied produce held the future for the economic prosperity of the zone.

Apakama noted that the governors should involve the organised private sector in all its export programme for the people to take ownership of such programmes.

“To fast-track the growth and development of non-oil export business in the South East zone, we urge all the state governments to quickly revive, empower and strengthen their various state committees on export.

“In many states of the federation, their committees on export have successfully facilitated the growth of non-oil export business that runs into billions of naira.

“The nature of this export committees – made up of relevant government officials and the private sector, is sine qua non for state’s success in export business,”Apakama said.

He urged the Anambra government to leverage on the structure of the three chambers of commerce in the state to draft its policies and legislation.

He called on the government to include members of the chambers in government trade and bilateral delegations to expand businesses in the state.

“As a step toward strengthening Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, we urge Gov. Willie Obiano to assist the chamber to take full possession of its permanent trade fair on the Onitsha-Enugu expressway.

“This will facilitate a better realisation of the state government’s four-point-development agenda, as they relate to business and the organised private sector enterprise development,” he said.

No Security No Investment=>>>>Anambra to host Regional Security Summit later this month

Anambra state is to host a grand Summit on Security for South-East States and neighbouring Delta and Kogi States on the 22nd of this month.

Governor Willie Obiano made this known in a briefing with newsmen in his country home, Aguleri on the recent achievements of his administration in the Security Sector.

The Summit which will be held at the instance of Governor Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, is to be attended by Service Chiefs as well as Service Commanders and Governors of the various States and will feature presentations and discussions on the possibility of establishing intra and inter states’ security network to address the issue of crime in the area on a permanent basis.

According to Governor Obiano, the summit was part of a comprehensive plan to ensure that now that Anambra is safe from crime, other surrounding states are equally rid of criminals, as the issue of security is one that requires concerted effort to achieve sustainable result.

The Governor noted that having reduced crime in the state to its barest minimum, his government is presently adopting proactive steps to prevent criminals from even thinking and carrying out their activities, through its numerous support to the state security outfit to continue to raid all known hideouts of criminals.

These efforts he noted, is already yielding results as the Anti-Drug and Cultism Units of the State Security Paraphernalia recently raided parts of the state notorious for drug and cult-related activities, tracked and arrested kingpins and mopped up their drugs.

Governor Obiano assured Ndi Anambra that there is no going back on his avowed resolved to sustain the onslaught against criminals, a decision he acknowledged is driving the high level of acceptance by investors which the state is presently enjoying across the various sectors of its economy.

Omanbala Nwere Madu----Genesis Group=>>>> Man Got The Biggest 'Shock' Of His Life Just Because He Wanted To Show Love To His Family

Many would argue on this but, i don't think is asking too much for a young man to be given the opportunity to give his family a treat according to his taste? Definitely not. But it is one thing to wish and another thing to have what you wish. (Dr Nnaeto Orazulike, GMD of Genesis Group, with wife, Dr Ngozi Orazulike, at the dinner)

A young husband and father living with his family in Port Harcourt wanted the best for his family. He and his wife were blessed with twin boys, vibrant and adventurous.

During weekends, especially, the man wanted to take them to places where they could have fun and bond as a family. But there was a snag. Such places were hard to come by in Port Harcourt. It was frustrating, demoralizing and even shocking. So what were the options available to him? Make do with the unsatisfactory places around and keep complaining? Stay indoors always and live a boring life?

Fold his arms and pray for somebody to do something?

Well, the man of ideas Nnaeto Orazulike decided to be the change he wanted to see. And The Genesis Centre was born.

This is not fiction.

Have you been to Genesis Deluxe Cinema either in Lagos, Port Harcourt or Enugu before? I am sure most of us who have must have been captivated and immersed in the wonderful ambiance than to think about how it all started. I am sure this will interest you.

As a young couple, living and working in Port Harcourt was real fun for Ichie Nnaeto Orazulike and his beautiful wife Dr. Ngozi Orazulike. Life and business were just seamless and God blessed them with two wonderful boys. There is always the need for busy families to create time to bond with their kids especially on weekends. However, as the boys were growing up, it dawned on him that family entertainment destination was almost nonexistent in The Garden City. As is typical of the business maverick, Orazulike needed no further research to reveal to him the quantum of opportunities in that hospitality category, given the abundance of middle- to high-income family segments in the Port Harcourt city.

And pronto: an idea was born. That idea was The Genesis Centre Port Harcourt. It was conceived to provide the great city with a one-stop shop for family entertainment: A lifestyle centre where every member of the family will be engaged in different fun-filled experiences ranging from restaurants game zones, cinemas and exotic lounges. As the development was going on, a similar opportunity came in Lagos at the Palms Mall: the birth of Genesis Deluxe Cinemas.

So it was the same experience of not finding a befitting place for an outing and the same drive in filling gaps in hospitality industry that fired Orazulike to found the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas in 2008. Genesis Deluxe Cinema is about the leading cinema developer and operator of multiplex cinemas in Nigeria. Since the launch into the Nigerian market in 2008 in Lagos, Genesis Deluxe Cinemas has grown to 4 cinemas with 18 screens and over 2,500 seats in Port Harcourt, Lagos and Enugu.

The journey into the cinema industry began with the belief that he could provide a unique entertainment experience, where the best international and domestic movie releases could be enjoyed within ultra-modern, friendly and welcoming ambiance. As is typical of Genesis investments, today one can say with confidence that Genesis Deluxe Cinemas is a market leader within the Nigerian cinema industry and is the brand of choice for commercial developers looking for a cinema vendor that not only drives traffic, but also brings extra value to the table.

According to statistics, Nigerian film industry, popularly called Nollywood, is rated the third most valuable film industry in the world behind India and the US. In spite of the giant strides Nigeria has made in the film industry, Nigeria has one of the lowest number of cinemas when compared to its peers in film business like India and United States. As such, cinema industry in Nigeria still has a long way to go.

Genesis Deluxe Cinemas has taken upon its shoulders the responsibility of driving the process of bridging the gap that currently exists within the cinema industry by opening 30 new locations and 120 screens within the next 5 years.

Genesis Deluxe Cinemas’ offers are tailored to appeal to the different segments of the family for maximum satisfaction. These include Extra Comfortable Seats, VIP Seating, Cosy Lounges, Game Zones, Dolby Digital Sound/Screens, 3D Movies, Discount Ticket Prices and Fabulous Student Pricing. GDC also offers Membership to its valued customers, offering points that can be redeemed against tickets and concessions.

The business has blossomed. Today, the Genesis Group spans different market categories like restaurants, hotels, catering, cinemas, real estate, bakery/confectioneries, facilities management and lifestyle. One hears of Genesis Restaurants, Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, Genesis Fill-up, Genesis Bread, The Sojourner by Genesis, and more. The Genesis brand has gradually but steadily become a conglomerate that has spread across the federation, employing about 2,500 people.

In recognition of his giant business developmental strides and contributions to the Nigerian economy, Orazulike was recently honoured by the University of Port Harcourt with an award of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).

In his acceptance speech on behalf of other honorary doctorate degree recipients, Dr Nnaeto Orazulike, who is the Group Managing Director of the Genesis Group, urged Nigerians to change their negative thinking about Nigeria. Orazulike noted that the fact that foreigners continue to establish new businesses or expand existing ones in Nigeria is a testimony that they see what we don’t see in our economy.

His words: “We need to change our perception about our country and start looking at the opportunities and how to harness them. I am not saying that the challenges are not real, but beneath every challenge exist legitimate business opportunities. It was this desire that inspired the Genesis Group.”

He listed some of the opportunities in Nigeria and how foreign companies are tapping into them, and ended the speech by saying: “My parting words to us today is for us to look at the brighter side of Nigeria and view it from a different perspective and be prepared to take the opportunities staring us in the face. This way, we can help in poverty alleviation in our country. If every Nigerian can commit to propagate one positive thing about this great country especially when we are abroad, our story will begin to change. Like I will always tell anyone who cares to listen, no one can love us more than ourselves.”

That same evening, a dinner was held in his honour at the highbrow Asia Town, Old GRA, Port Harcourt. Captains of industry and the crème de la crème of society attended the dinner. They included the current MD and former MD of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo and Mr Reginald Ihejiahi respectively; former Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh; Chairman of Seplat Petroleum, Dr ABC Orjiako; President, South-East – South-South Professionals, Mr Emeka Ugwu-Oju, and others.
