DRAGFLOW DREDGER FOR Onitsha Anambra State of Nigeria New Vessels // October 22, 2015 Dragflow recently completed the delivery of a new dredger to a client in Onitsha Nigeria. The company was contacted by Matag, a Nigerian dredging company, about acquiring a dredge to increase its capacity to dredge sand to supply local markets in Onitsha, Anambra State, and Asaba, Delta State, which is a sister city on the other side of Niger River. The company was interested in expanding its ability not only to sell sand but to undertake reclamation along the river. With a previously owned cutter/suction dredge, which that had a digging limit of approximately 10-12m, the company was limited to seasonal dredging. The River Niger is known to rise as much as 8m during the wet Season, especially when dams are opened up in Garouwa, Cameroon, which is approximately 1,200km away. Matag needed a dredge that could work continuously through the season. Dragflow supplied Matag with a model DRH400E35DF configured to reach a depth of 35m, equipped with a Dragflow HY400 submersible pump. With this solution, Matag has successfully deployed their dredge and has begun to work since the end of July 2015. Dragflow says the client is "very happy" with the production that is being achieved, as well as the reduced cost of production it has achieved. 3 Likes

With all these investments and development hitting the soil of Anambra state, our government(ministries) are yet to see the need for proper plan of the state's Road network(especially Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi...). Most of the roads in Anambra States needs dualization , I don't know what the state ministry of works(highways) is doing? it's high time they scrapped this one - Lane, one - way road model they adopt for our roads. Some of our roads need dual Carriage, and some even triple Carriage with side walks. The ministry has to improve on their quality control and adherence to specifications. You will agree with me that some of our roads are just "scratch and paint" (that's what I call it), no proper compaction(doubt if the contractors achieve 70%compaction),low quality asphalt, no/narrow side drains, no road lighting, road signs, road markings... We need to start proper planing of our roads network now, because the time is near when traffic demand will prompt expansion of these roads, which has its cost implications (demolition and compensations) and the inconvenience it will cause residents. Our ministry of works has to come up with a better road model to compliment the human and economic growth sweeping across the state. God bless the Light of the nation! 5 Likes |

Tex42:You are right. All we need is to P-L-A-N Awka. Even if we build bungalow as in the city below, just the proper modern planning will make the city habitable. beautiful building built in a planless ibadan pattern will still make an otherwise beautiful place ugly and uninhabitable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjn7Pyk6HZo . It is the little things like simply planning a city, that makes the biggest difference. . 5 Likes

Awka is set to match Abuja with what is being laid by Obiano led administration. A lot of restructuring going on Awka as an example of what our society should be. This administration has set his target so high that it can't afford go below the usual Nigerian standard. The city already has the sort of well laid out mansions I have only seen Abuja and nowhere else except the highbrow areas of Lagos. Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has given the task of creating a world class city like the Dubai Model City to the Nigerian Institute of Architects, NIA, Anambra State chapter. http://www.channelstv.com/2015/07/23/obiano-set-to-transform-awka-to-world-class-city/ 7 Likes

A lot is going on in this all important city to place it side by side with Dubai city. Obiano's magic wand is at play. Though they have since passed this stage of development. Governor Willie Obiano has received the finished product of the Aerial Photography Awka Capital Territory Area from the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority. The presentation of the product took place at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.http://anambrariansnews.com.ng/?p=12194 6 Likes

AnamCity: Hopefully, we shall have a culture of developing the entire city using housing estates and enforcing the Awka masterplan in each estate. People often erroneously think Abuja is beautiful because it has got nice duplexes. Abuja is what it is because they try to enforce the city masterplan. A well planned Mombassa Kenya estate with houses lined up properly, streets made with interlocking stones and flowers planted along the streets will match any high cost Abuja area. But if you look closely, the beauty is because it is well planned and streets are paved with interlocking stones. 4 Likes

Low cost part of the same estate with bungalows . It is indeed planning that makes a place beautiful, not necessarily how many storeys height of buildings there. My hope is that Obiano will implement the Awka Masterplan and not just pay lip service to it as his predecessor Peter Obi did. New estates in Awka where the Awka masterplan is strictly adhered to as it is done in Abuja will transform the city into a leader 5 Likes

Cjrane2: You are right there concerning Abuja. Awka already has beautiful well laid out estates with well paved roads. Obiano is not joking with his ongoing planning and infrastructural developments in Awka. He is setting up Greenwood city with equally well planned roads/streets with pedestrian walkways/streetlights etc. Obiano has set his ball rolling with a very high target- and he has been. He has equally grown the IGR to about 1.3b to enable him implement more capital projects and has again set another target of 3b. 3 Likes |
