U might think health is wealth, but not in Nigeria. If two pple don manage buy jeep dat means the whole country is wealthy.

Dat was wat killed my cousin's bf. He collapsed at work and went into a diabetic coma, he was rushed to specialist hospital in Benin and the immediately fixed a drip for him. With 4hrs he was dead . They later discovered he was given insulin overdose which killed him.

No enquiry was done, no questions asked, no compensation .

Scans are diagnostic tests just like radiographs and blood work
They are not definitive.
Definitive diagnosis can only be made by histopathology

GOOD MORNING NAIRALANDERS. I WENT TO SEE THE OP THIS MORNING AND THEY WERE PRAYING WITH ONE ALFA,I HAD TO LEAVE BUT CAME BACK 20MINS LATER,HAD ONE ON ONE TALK WITH THE FAMILY. THEY ARE ALL SET TO GO TO ABKUTA,WAITING FOR A TAXI THEY HAVE PAID TO COME.I MET THEIR ELDER BROTHER(SECOND CHILD IN THE FAMILY). HE SAID,THE REASON THEY OPTED FOR ABK IS because,THE HOSPITAL HAS TREATED SUCH CASES OF WHICH IS CONFIRMED BY FAMILY MEMBERS, BUT IF THEY GET THERE AND ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH IT,THEY WILL LEAVE FOR IBADAN STRAIGHT AWAY.

Can people know definitively what is being done before more money is sent?

When it is known what the family plans to do exactly and what the doctor is actually doing before sending any more money. I am saying this because people may get heartbroken if this hospital Abeokuta / Oyo turns out to be money down the drain and may negatively affect others who need help in the future.

People are contributing money and emotions. The initial request was for Luth and others suggested other good hospitals suddenly its a rural medicine specialist who obviously runs a one man show that is the option.

Please no more money, let us know what is being done, how much is needed and a way forward

As regards the situation of things as they stand now, like many I am not comfortable with DJ not being in a specialist unit at the very least & no proper diagnosis, but we have to understand that when people/famiies are under stress they sometimes make not too clever descsions, which someone not under stress will not take. They have a sick relative and they are trying everything within their own understanding to get help for him
Looking in from the outside, they havent chosen the best option, but to them they think they are doing the best for him.
At the very least the doctor should have been informed and waiting for them rather than the other way round.

Ideally, This whole effort should have been co-ordinated, and funds sent directly to the hospital that offers the best treatment, however unfortuantly due to the urgency of the situation and the lack of a dedicated team upfront on ground, this could not be achevied



However all is not lost and people can still "monitor", "support" and "advise" the family
Already I am sure that deep in them they know that their coming to Abeokuta and the doctor not even being able to see them today is not too good for DJ, however I pray for strenght for him and most importantly healing

I dont think its a good idea to bother the doctor, he is already busy from the sounds of it and disturbing him and pressurizing him wont help the situation. Our prayer is that God sends capable and competent people DJ's way.

What kills most sick persons in Nigeria is ignorance, the amount realized So far can stabilize this guy in Luth, lasuth, redington, or even St Nicholas while efforts are made to take him to India.

I wonder why They decided to take him to abeokuta of all places.
