Try it and see yourself in Jail
That's if your own Nigerian culture is about brutality and child engagement.

Discipline isn't about that... It might involve consequences for bad behaviour, but never one that harms the child (for example leaving marks or making them bleed).

You can punish your child, and even in England some certain level of smacking is allowed (as long as it doesn't leave a mark, bruise the child).

You are allowed to discipline your child.

Anyways, all the best to the proponent of that idea.
For me o, I prefer my child goes to Korea for education
Well, that's fine.
Don't think because you're in uk/us/Canada/aus/nz and Co, you can't inculcate the Nigerian culture and discipline to your child. Not all you hear on SM is reality.

Moreover, it's a way some teachers earn a bit more to augment poor pay from school.

You'll be shocked to know that some of these teachers make more than their salary doing this and for just about 3hrs a week.

Sometimes the children are grouped in classes which means the teacher can earn even more.

1Hover1:
Those saying because it's cheaper don't realise that the driver for doing this is the high quality of education in Nigeria. I understand you might not have lived outside Nigeria, so I have no problem with your views.

Most schools abroad encourage mediocrity and non ambitious learning. Many Nigerians see this gap and decide that their own child will not join the bandwagon of mediocrity and so get a teacher from Nigeria who will help push the child better with a Nigerian driven curriculum.

Why do you think Nigerians top classes in UK schools for example?

Nazgul:
No company in Nigeria can pay you such amount monthly unless your business is recording a tremendous amount of success or you're earning in USD.

That's the only way you can hit the 1m mark monthly.
Well, there are many companies that pay some of their staff over 1m monthly.
Get a high earning skill and build your experience up over time, and you'll also be in that bracket earning over 1m monthly.

Even as an entry level pilot, you're already earning above that... I know telecoms engineer who earn above that steady.

Funny thing... Shettima didn't say she should drop Kemi from her name.

Watch the video again.
He said (paraphrased)
"We are proud of her and her achievements.... She denigrates Nigeria..
and even if she likes, she can remove the Kemi in her name... It doesn't stop Nigeria from being the greatest black nation on earth"

At no point did he say kemi should drop the Kemi from her name.

“Companies earning less than 50m will be able to claim back vat expenses”. Is that not funny to u? Does that not sound funny to u? Guy, u failed it in that area. Correct yourself. Evidently, u don’t know what VAT means.
I wrote VAT in error and have now modified the comment to "WHT" which was my original intention. I have also expanded the phrase to include small companies (with 50million below as turnover) being exempted from most of the taxes including VAT.
PoliticsRe: We’re Proposing Law To Increase VAT To 10% –presidential Tax C’mtee by 1Hover1(m): 2:15am On Sep 04, 2024
Good2go1:
What do you mean by company will be able to claim their VAT back? Please stop misinforming people, how can company claim VAT back when it is not their money or expenses? VAT is a form of tax, sellers of goods and services collect form their customers on behalf of government. E.g if a company is selling their products #100 and vat rate is 10% the company will charge their customers #110 and pay government the #10 ontop. There is no way the company can claim it back becauseit is not their money.
Thanks for the correction, there was no intention to mislead, it was written in error. WHT was the tax intended to be written, in addition to state that companies earning below 50million in turnover will be largely exempted from most of the taxes (VAT, WHT, Income tax etc).

I have modified the comment to show that.
PoliticsRe: We’re Proposing Law To Increase VAT To 10% –presidential Tax C’mtee by 1Hover1(m):
The funny thing is that most people commenting here have not and did not watch the interview before commenting.

If they did, they would see that VAT is not increasing for EVERYTHING, in fact, essential items bordering on food, health, housing, education and transport will have VAT removed totally (which is the area that affects the greater number of Nigerians). An example he gave was that, how many Nigerians do buy a new car...these are the kind of items that will see VAT rise to 10%.

Companies with earnings below 50 million will be able to claim back VAT WHT and they will largely be exempt from many other taxes including VAT, Income tax and the likes.

Sure it's still a proposal which came about after consultations with interest groups. People can still make thir contributions before it is passed.

Modified to correct VAT to WHT as seen above.

If you don't intend adding value with your travel and your only travel goal is to "jama jama" aka rough it out.
My brother sir, SIT DOWN AT HOME!

Counties have legitimate pathway to residency and citizenship.

If you are not following any of those pathway (as you're going there on a visiting visa and on getting there, find your level), trust me, life will be much harder for you.

If you're going to add value (education or a job that requires your skill), it's going to be much easier, and you can it tell when you'll get "papers" and plan accordingly.
All the best.

What region do you live in if you don't mind me asking? All the schools and nurseries that I know of in my council (south east) ,and neighbouring boroughs, require the govt code to apply the 30 hours funding, so I wonder if it is a regional difference.

Agree re the bolded - OP should check what the rules are in her council.
TravelRe: Parenting In The UK As A Nigerian Migrant. by 1Hover1(m): 1:49pm On Sep 19, 2023
30 hours for 3 years old is still considered public funds. You're only entitled to 15 hours for now without it being a recourse to public funds.

Just maintain that for now, you have just 1 more year to be eligible for free 30 hours care for 4years old and above (which won't be termed public funds).

Please if the council state it isn't public funds, get them to confirm that via email, just in case it is referenced in a future visa application, you can show proof that you made enquiries and didn't intentionally breach the terms of your visa.

Cheers

RomanceRe: New Marriage About To Crash. by 1Hover1(m): 1:59pm On Aug 09, 2023
Sorry you're going through this... It is a passing phase and I pray it passes quickly.

To answer your question if you did anything wrong, not necessarily, but 1 thing that can inflame a small matter is not addressing the main issue in the first place. If he opened up to you about his feeling that he felt extorted and you were not on his side, you should have addressed that first, even with an apology and then explain that you didn't see it that way then and sorry he feels that way. Assure him you will work together to build back all that have been expended and encourage him.... That might have brought out a different outcome.

Coming at him, questioning him about his right to feel extorted would invalidate his feeling and make him build even more resentment, mind you, it took a lot for him to open up to you.

My advice, go back, apologise and show him your support.
Marriage no be 50-50 ooo... it's 100-100, don't let anyone deceive you that the man should bear all the financial burden and the wife should only support...

During my wedding, the list was quite much, I discussed with my wife and she took it to her dad who saw reasons and reduced it. We did what we could do together and we still till date jointly run our home flexibly (we know what we need every month and this is drawn from our joint account funded by both of us flexibly).... we love that openness and support both of us give to each other and the home and that is part of what makes a home.

All the best.

It might be best to look for gluten free substitutes for them, as it figures that you love eating spaghetti and macaroni.

EDIT: You should also always have antihistamine close by at all times...It might save your life one day in case you accidentally consume food in contact with Gluten (You know we don't know how to separate our cooking in Nigeria. Someone can cook spag in one pot and use it to cook rice just after.

BusinessRe: CBN Sets N50,000 As Daily Limit On Contactless Payments by 1Hover1(m):
Contactless payments are payments made with tokens, wearables, phone tap/QR scan etc... It doesn't affect your transactions using your mobile/web app. The cap is a good thing because Contactless payments do not need authorisation, so anyone with access to your ARM card for example can tap on a Contactless payment device to pay off a bill. If there's no limit, anyone can empty your account without your authorization, and there'll be nothing you can do.
In the UK, it's a max of £100... Max Per transaction, max per day. Anything over that means you'll have to insert your card and enter your pin or approve via your app to authorise the transaction.

PHIPEX:
I noticed this nonsense today on my account. This is another policy somersault. These people are only interested in frustrating Nigerians.

Well, I talk from an informed pint of view also, offshore piloting. With friends in the industry from policy making to drilling the oil to sales and contract management.

Even if you have a JV, the oil isn't free... It has to be paid for and then refined (refinery is also a business that WILL NEVER REFINE FOR FREE), no matter how we look at it. Someone has to pay the cost. Ok, Govt. buys local oil/local fuel and gives it out for free or lowered price (which means govt is loosing money already) guess what, its the same people just like you and I that will take this low price fuel and find a way to sell it higher to outsiders, it is the same you and I that will sti say REMOVE SUBSIDY, same you and I that will still say, WHAT IS GOVT DOINGhuh
In the end a lot of problem lie on the shoulder of we the followers (1st, it's from among us that leaders are chosen, they are not aliens).

macaranta:
Bro, I am a mechanical engineer that have worked in the oil and gas industry so I know what I'm talking about.

The point you referenced in one above is, I assume under futures contract of which Nigeria is already benefiting. A futures contract will sell crude to a destination country at a fixed cost for a long period of time e.g 20years before it is reviewed. Nnpc is a jv in almost all the omls, they retain a large percentage which is for regulatory and monitoring purposes, not everything drilled must be sold. It's that simple.

Your point Opec regulations refers to exports not local consumption restrictions. You are capped at exportation so as to regulate price not that it's to starve the local market or the necessary raw materials for their own refineries.

Diesel and pms is sold at a fair rate already, no Nigerian has ever demanded that it should be free so I don't know what the other dude is on about "poor people". Most poor people don't even have need for diesel, just petrol.
Music/RadioRe: Radio Stations Cut Down On Operationals Hours Due To High Cost Of Deisel by 1Hover1(m): 11:58am On Mar 26, 2022
You've forgotten 2 things.

1. The oil being drilled is not free... It is sold as it leaves the jetty to fulfil long term contracts. These businesses that own OMLs are not charity businesses and the crude is sold to continue to recoup their cost used to buy that oil minining area. Its quite easy to say things when you're on the outside... Like no one EVER thought about what you are thinking about.

2. NIGERIA is part of OPEC, we have a restricted output, moreover over mines its oil capacity and stores the excess... Every govt buys their fuel storage from the oil companies... Everything is paid for... Nothing is free because it grows in your backyard.

macaranta:
Are you well? You want to argue about something you know nothing about. Who owns the refineries before you start talking about capitalism, I hope you know your usage of capitalism for a government owned asset(refinery) is out of place. A sensible government will produce excess refined products, enough for local consumption and make profits from exports. When you have raw materials readily available, that has solved 80% production cost. Capitalism will only apply to say dangote refinery and not refineries built from tax payers money
Music/RadioRe: Radio Stations Cut Down On Operationals Hours Due To High Cost Of Deisel by 1Hover1(m):
I agree the govt. need to step in. In the UK, it's the "local govt" that is doing the refund since that's where people pay the council tax to in the first place.
If you were govt. What will you do?
Take these factors in play
1. Percentage of working class Nigerians that pay tax PAYE is? Who collects majority of the PAYE?
2. The govt. already subsidises petrol (diesel was deregulated a while back)
3. What other ways are people taxed DIRECTLY? That can be paid back directly to the people?
4. Do we really have a true public record?
Resurgent2016:
You are missing the point. The source of the fund doesn't matter, it's the principle that the government realised it had to step in to cushion the deleterious impact on business and vulnerable individuals. Gov providing tax rebate is as good as government providing the funds directly because all government funds come from either tax or other levies collections or external funding e.g loans.

Even if you attempt to tie the support to the source of funds, the bulk of Nigeria's tax receipt (oil & no-oil) comes from the formal sector. What support has the government offered knowing that these companies are increasingly dependent on diesel generators in the face of a faltering power grid that went offline for several days of lates.

Nigeria needs a responsible government!!
Music/RadioRe: Radio Stations Cut Down On Operationals Hours Due To High Cost Of Deisel by 1Hover1(m):

News was there, you didn't read, you read headlines and have suddenly become an analyst.
Go and read about crude oil theft and find back to tell me if it is the same with what you were thinking. You think oil theft is people stealing tankers of oil abi? So you can continue to blame the same govt that changes every 4 years, 8 years max for what people like you and I take pride in doing.
I'll give you a bit of understanding to oil theft... Shell for example, has an input pipeline that should deliver 1million barrels of oil... But all they get is about 120,000... What has happened?
People like you and I bursting pipelines to siphon oil and divert to illegal refining.
When your president was hard on them, we cried that he's being wicked and insensitive to the plight of the N.D people.

It's easy to say you'll stop oil theft decisively when you're not close to the seat of power.

jesmond3945:
yes blame buhari. The same usa is going to supply 15bn worth of gas to eu, where is Nigeria in this whole game. NNPC cannot account for 100m barrels of crude due to theft and the nnpc gmd is still in office. Nothing has been done to stem the tide. Investors fleeing the country. Nobody wants to invest in Nigeria when you cannot compete with dangote. Even in the telecom sector, only 4 providers. In the TV sector, we have only dstv. Everybody wants to drill oil and sell. Everybody wants to steal govt money. No leadership whatsoever. All his travels,he has achieved nothing with it. If i was president. I would strike deal with russia and buy diesel from them. India did with, why cant we do it. It is even cheaper to buy from them. I will work hard to stop oil theft because we just lost 3 billion dollars from it.
Music/RadioRe: Radio Stations Cut Down On Operationals Hours Due To High Cost Of Deisel by 1Hover1(m): 8:44am On Mar 26, 2022
The UK didn't just "give" 150 pounds to every house hold... It is a refund for COUNCIL TAX BILL...
Not VAT or PAYE óò.. Before someone will come and say we also pay tax in Nigeria na.
Not everyone qualifies, and if you don't pay your council tax or are in default, you don't qualify for the refund.
But yes, like you said, it's to help cushion the effect of the increased energy bill due to increase in gas prices.

Resurgent2016:
a reasonable government would have stepped in to cushion the effect on business and vulnerable citiens particularly when the grid that should be the main supply of power is now notorious for breaking down.

The UK just gave 150pounds to every house under certain bands to deal with the increase in the light bill.
