My dear, its good that you are seeking advice. But if may say, the advice of the people here will be mixed and varied. why dont you see a counsellor. If you wish, you might write to counselling@deeplookers.com. A qualified counsellor will attend to your issue. I say this with respect to all the mature minds here on nairaland. But we all know there are some that will not be described as mature enough

Temilola01:
I really need people's advice on how to handle this, as the next few weeks will either break or make my marriage stronger. My husband and I have been married for 5yrs now but we have been together for 11yrs. We have been through so much together, ivf procedures, miscarriages, failed businesses and the usual ups and downs in every relationship. He came to me last night after discovering he has an 18yr daughter who he has never met or did not know till yesterday. We are still waiting on God. Although this was before we met but does not make it less of a blow. I want him to do right by his daughter but I also fear for my marriage. I only just learnt about this literally 8hrs ago so I'm in shock and still trying to wrap my head around it. I need people's unbiased advice. Thank you everyone.

you aree right. But i often wonder whether he is doing those things or he is beign commanded to do them. I find it hard to believe that an experinced banker and economist will be doing what Emefiele and kemi are doing. They shlud know better than you and me that economic forces do not have any time for draconian laws of dictators.

All the same, in saner climes, in more civilised societies, if your boss forces you to do things you dont belive in, you just resign. simple. So perhaps, thats what you should say,. Emefiele and Kemi should resign. But then, so also should Buhari. Buhari should also resign.

Eveview, this is why i follow you. i love your analysis. How i wish every nigerian is objective. My mantra on this forum for a while now is I AM NOT FOR PDP, I AM NOT FOR APC, IAM FOR NIGERIA.

Some silly people do not know that banks are private institutions. They run their business for profit. The moment even one staff is not needed, they sack the person. That is capitalism. Fullstop. If you dont like it, go and try communism. Simple.

Now i am not happy that banks are sacking workers. Let no one get me wrong. However, you need more than threats and government intervention to stop them from sacking workers. What they need is a thriving economy, and they will even employ more.

eyeview:

The only thing I see here are insults without a single point. Am not even sure if your point is for or against mine.
But on the TSA you mentioned, let me educate you a bit. Every bank has what is called public sector dept. This staff are trained in managing govt institution accounts. Each bank has over 300staff(from entry level to GM). Now if you instantly take away these funds without palliatives, you leave these 6000(300times 20banks) redundant. The option left for these banks will be to either sack or reassign them. Now to reassign them, you will have to look for sectors that are thriving that may need more manpower. Sadly, there is none. Every sector is shrinking, from energy to fx to aviation to telecom. Businesses are closing. So for lack of where to post them, they are forced into the labour market.
I hope you understand for I have made it as rudimentary as I can for your understanding.
I am not going to speak for nigerian youths as I don't think am in d best position to speak for them but I think you are the empty one.
You made mention of pdp. Do you see why you are daft? You have been so myopice with pdp/apc battle that you think that anyone who showcases the faults of this govt must be a pdp supporter and hence must be shown what pdp did wrong. Do you see how myopic your reasoning is?
And in your little brain, you think one way to sanitize the banking system is by clsoing some banks and throwing thousands into the unemployment market? Son,you are far from intelligent reasoning and this is why most politicians have reduced your generation to offices like SA on twitter, facebook, instagram etc, because your likes have shown an inability to reason outside the box needed to move institutions forward.
Pls,don't quote me again. You're not worth it.

Politics / Re: Grazing Bill: Anambra Assembly Backs Out by 1NigeriaOnlyIf: 1:31pm On Jun 15, 2016
keep it up. keep up the pressure. no grazing reserve in igboland. no grazing reserve in yoruba land. no grazing reserve in southsouth. let them go and buy land and behave like normal citizens, or head back north

eyeview:
Imo state house of assembly is an extension of Rochas kitchen. And I know that Rochas is a specialist at treachery. I suggest that every LGA should write a serious warning letter to their representative in the state assembly to desist from approving that bill or face recall.
I will personally inform my rep to guard against falling for this. Though he doesn't like me since I had started moves to contest against his re-election in 2019. If he goes ahead to dance to rochas tune on this bill,it will be a strong vote of no confidence on him which I can use against him during campaigns.
Generally,I call on every town union, pressure group, religious leaders, traditional institutions and leaders of thoughts in every LGA to write or visit their assembly members against this proposed bill. Anybody who wants to do business that require land should buy it. Simple

They spent one year blaming jonathan and his blind supporters were foolishly carried along with it.
Look at Real madrid. They have just won the champions league. As at the time zidane took over from benitez in january, they were 5th in the spanish league, dropping points weekly, team morale was low, there was lack of cohesion but zidane didn't waste a moment to complain or blame the 'past administration',he didn't set the team into further retrogression(as buhari is doing as an excuse to rebuild),instead he went straight to work to stem the tide of retrogression and move the team forward till they finished just a point behind the eventual winners Barca and went ahead to lift the champions league.
That's what you call progressive!
Now compare that with Buhari who is like a coach that inherited a top flight team and was busy all thru the season blaming the previous coach till he dragged his team into a lower division within one year

ON POINT SIR. YOU DESERVE AN AWARD FOR THAT ANALYSIS
ALL HE DOES IS BLAME GEJ IN THE PAST.

For God's sake, why should i blame my dad for not sending me to Havard university and leaving one billion dollars in my account. How many have i made.
The test of a man is not by what he inherited, but what he achieved despite what he inherited.

Even if GEJ was bad (And i am not saying he wasnt, or that he was) that should have been a good thign for PMB. He will put daylight between himself and GEJ. When Barelona plays against a weak team, we see the difference. They can put 5 goals behing the keeper.

As a professinal, i thrive in taking over from an incompetent person. I cherish that. I enjoy that. It gives me the opportunity to shine and show what i can do. That has been the secret of my success in life. I dont go blaming the person i took over from, I CAPITALISE ON THEIR WEAKNESSES, AND SHINE, BY SUCCEEDING IN AREAS THEY FAILED. How can we look our grandchildren in the eye and say we allowed this to happen. How can i look my son in the eye when fulani man enters my house with a matchete. He will cry Daddy, and run to me. And expect his dad to protect him. And i will say, son, i did nothing.

What if my village is attacked. What will i tell my ageing mum and dad. I did nothing??

What will i tell my wife when they rape her in front of me, and kill her.She will be looking at me, crying.
NO WAY. God forbid. I shall fight. Peacefully.
I will continue to fight. till they kingdom come. Until fulani embraces peaces or is forced to do so, I shall not rest.
I shall no longer eat beef, kpomo, suya. I will rather die for lack of protein. My money will not be used to buy bullets to kill others

Politics / Re: How The Economy fared Under Yaradua With Oil @ $40/barrel And The Reality Today by 1NigeriaOnlyIf: 1:15pm On May 27, 2016
I do not need to be employed, because i employ people.
That I do not have a blood brother/sister employed by those motor companies does not mean that other nigerians were not employed.
THOSE COMPANIES CANNOT COME AND OPERATE WITHOUT EMPLOYING PEOPLE. DO U MEAN THEY RUN WITHOUT EMPLOYEES. NOT EVEN A GATE MAN? UR ARGUMENT IS LAUGHABLE

The forex i said was saved by the automobile policy is the forex that would have been used in the purchase of brand new cars from outside nigeria. Which means that all the profits and labour go to a different country. In case you do not know, for any brand new vehicle imported into the country, you are exporting all profits, and paying all the workers who worked on the car outside the country. BUT IF YOU ASSEMBLE IN NIGERIA, SOME OF THAT PROFIT IS RETAINED IN NIGERIA. BUT VERY IMPORTANTLY, THOSE WHO ASSEMBLED THE CAR WILL BE NIGERIANS. AND THEY WILL BE PAID. THE MAN WHO FIXED THE TYRE, WILL BE A NIGERIAN TECHNICIAN. IF A JAPANESE TECHNICIAN WERE TO FIX THE TYRE IN JAPAN, THAT IS MONEY LOST TO NIGERIA. BUT WHEN A NIGERIAN TECHNICIAN FIXES THE TYRE, HE IS PAID, IN NIGERIA, IN NAIRA. HE CAN HAVE A BETTER LIFE. HE WILL HAVE BUYING POWER, CONTRIBUTING TO OUR ECONOMY. CAN YOU SEE HOW IT GOES. THAT IS HOW AN ECONOMY GROWS. THAT IS WHAT IS CALLED ANCILLIARY INDUSTRIES THAT GROWS BECAUSE ONE INDUSTRY GROWS.

My dear, you do not need huge money to implement policy. What you need is the political will. If buhari was to support rice farmers for example, and give them two years, and say categorically that after two years, rice importation will no longer be granted forex, and at the same time, will attract 1000% increase in tax, many rice farmers will expand their operation (LETS HOPE HO HERDSMEN WILL EAT THEIR RICE). Buhari does not even need to give the farmers a penny. If banks are sure Buhari means the policy, and it has the support of the national assembly, and will be implemented, they will give farmers loans. THAT IS HOW AN ECONOMY WORKS MR MAN.

Dispute my facts bro. Dont go on character assasination or deflection. That is a behaviour that has no place when sane, intelligent and mature minds are having a debate.

IF YOU CAN PROVE THAT THE AUTOMOBILE POLICY OF GEJ NEVER LED TO EMPLOYMENT OF NIGERIANS, NEVER LED TO ANY REDUCTION IN DEMAND FOR FOREX, NEVER LED TO INCREASED TAX REVENUE FOR THE GOVERNMENT, THEN I WILL AGREE WITH YOU.

What you just did is like telling me that because people are dying of illnesses mean that all the hospitals in nigeria, including teaching hospitals, are failures and do not have any qualified doctor that has ever treated a single disease successfully. That nigerians are still importing cars from belgium does not mean that the automobile policy of GEJ didnt lead to employment of nigerians, didnt lead to increased tax revenue, and didnt lead to savings in forex.

SHOW ME A POLICY OF BUHARI THAT HAS LED TO EMPLOYMENT OF NIGERIANS, AND TO INCREASED TAX REVENUE FOR THE GOVERNMENT. SHOW ME JUST ONE. PLS ONLY ONE. SHOW ME JUST ONE. JUST ONE

Am not a fan of PDP nor GEJ but you people has been brainwashed so much into believing that Nigeria is coming out from an apocalypse. Where is Nigeria coming from, really? In actual fact,we are coming from
1,being the 3rd fastest growing economy in the world to not even making the 1st 15 growing economies in africa!
2,From being an investment destination to sliding into the worse recession since 1991
3,From N202 to a dollar to N360-N400 to a dollar(first in the history of the naira)
4,From an electricity tarriff of N12.30 to N21.40 per unit of consumption
5,From N87/litre of fuel to N145/litre(first in the history of fuel pricing, despite the fall in the price of crude)
6,From a maximum of 1week fuel scarcity to an unprecedented 4months uninterrupted fuel scarcity(first in history)
7,From around 5,000megawatts to 0megawatts in electricity power generation(first in history)
8,Even tomato is now 4 for N1000(first in the history of tomato since creation)

The list is endless.
And you are here referring to 'where we are coming from?'
Son,you need to go wash your brain off zombeism and go learn the act of thinking objectively for yourself.

Now,to educate you a bit on the art and science of management. When a new manager takes over the saddle of leadership, the predecessor's 'poor achievements' automatically becomes his benchmark. His work from day one is to grow all the indices left behind by the former. Eg,if GEJ was hovering around 5000 megawatts, its expected that Buhari starts to build from there to 6000 to 7000 megawatts upwards, but instead it went down to 0.
Son,you don't grow like that. I wish you and many others to remove the cloak of tribalism, nepotism and look at issues from a more objective manner and you will realize that this govt has scored less than 8% as a govt. And since govt is assessed based on a 4year cumulative result,he needs to perform exceptionally well in the next 3years to wipe off the poor ratings of the first quarter because this poor outing of year1 will still add to his cumulative scorecard. I hope you understand cos I've done my best to make it as elementary as I can

I read the article on Vanguard you posted. It was a promise by Tata to build assembly plant in nigeria. I hope they have fulfiled it. If they have, Carry go ambode. Patronise them. That will lead to jobs for lagosians and nigerians. I am not a lagosian, but i will be happy to hear that the company employed lagosians. Their income tax, The company tax to the government, money saved on forex, etc, are all good for nigeria.

here you go with classic deflection of someone who has refused to face the truth
you asked me for a policy direction of the last government, i gave you one simple example, and some of the fruits it yielded. Which includes one indigenous car manufacturing company (IVM), and a few foreign ones that have established assembly plants in nigeria.

IN CASE YOU DO NOT KNOW,
1. THOSE ASSEMBLY PLANTS EMPLOYED NIGERIANS. AND ARE PAYING THEM,. REDUCING UNEMPLOYMENT, AND BY EXTENTION, CRIME
2. THEY HELP TO SAVE FOREX. BECAUSE IF A CAR ASSEMBLED IN NIGERIA COSTS 5MILLION, PERHAPS ONLY 3MILLION OF THAT WILL GO INTO THE IMPORTATION OF THE PARTS THAT WERE ASSEMBLED IN NIGERIA. THE REMAINING WILL BE USED TO PAY TAX TO GOVERNMENT, AND PAY WORKERS. SAVING US FOREX.

I NEVER SAID PAST GOVERNMENT WAS HOLY. I AM NOT FOR GEJ. NOT FOR PMB.
I AM TALKING OF POLICY DIRECTION THAT LED TO EMPLOYMENT OF NIGERIANS, TAXES TO GOVT, AND SAVING OF FOREX.

SHOW ME ONE POLICY OF THIS GOVERNMENT THAT HAS LED TO EMPLOYMENT OF NIGERIANS, INFLUX OF FOREING DIRECT INVESTMENT INTO NIGERIA, INCREASED TAX REVENUE TO THE GOVERNMENT, AND SAVING OF FOREX (NOT BY BANNING OF PRODUCT IMPORT)

WHY TATA
pls can someone tell me why the lagos govt chose TATA.
has tata started assembly in nigeria. if yes, then i withdraw my comment.

If no, then why not IVM, Peugeut, Kia, Nissan, or any other that is local
We need to support nigerian economy and nigerian currency

Even if for whatever reason the lagos govt wants to go with tata, if tata is not yet assemblying in nigeria, the govt can tell them that unless they establish an assembly plant in lagos, which will be paying taxes to lagos state, and emply x number of lagos citizens (am sure there are many qualified lagos citizens) they wouldnt do business with them.

NOTE. I AM NOT FROM LAGOS. BUT I LOVE NIGERIA. IF IT IS GOOD FOR LAGOS, IT IS GOOD FOR NIGERIA. IF TATA ESTABLISHES IN LAGOS, NIGERIAN ECONOMY WILL GAIN

Are you saying that the lack (if it is true there was one) of policy direction by last government justifies lack of policy direction in this one.

In order words, where is the change apc promised then.

But for the records, the last government had an automobile policy, to make nigeria a vehicle manufactory/assembly country for west africa and africa. This would, if pursued to completion, lead to manufacture of anciliary vehicle parts in nigeria, such as tyres, seats, and other things. In case you do not know, major car manufactorers do not produce everything. anciiliary parts are sourced out. By anciliaries i mean tyres, seats, electronics, filters, sensors, brake pads, wheels, etc.

That is one such policy direction of the last govt which was pursued to fruition to a great extent. it brought peugeut, nissan, kia, into nigeria for assembly, which led to the creation of jobs.

so now, give me an example of such policy direction of this govt pls

NOte, I AM NOT FOR GEJ, I AM NOT FOR PMB
I AM NOT FOR APC, I AM NOT FOR PDP

I AM FOR NIGERIA

fiizznation:
Funny. The economy template of this administration is there on APC site if that's all you care to know. If you are too lazy to go there I can help you;

http://www.allprogressivescongress.org/manifesto/

Whether you want to hear it or you don't want to it, the truth must be told. And the truth is buhari INHERITED a bad economy from the previous government. There was virtually any left in our excess crude oil/external reserve. Our debt increased while our GDP was already declining. Some organizations were already retrenching workers. Our inflation rate was increasing while recession was very imminent. It was so bad that the Jonathan administration had to borrow in the last two months of their tenure just to pay workers.

Now I asked you; The previous administration sold oil{our only export earning commodity} for about $147 per barrel for almost 5yrs, now tell me, what the hell did they do with all the money and where did they kept the money?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN SO FAR IS BUDGET PADDING. ARREST OF OPPOSITION PARTY STALWARTS WHEN HIS OWN GOVERNMENT IS FULL OF CRIMINALS, OVER 3BN TO BE USED ON MAINTENANCE OF ASO ROCK, FLYING ALL OVER THE WORLD WHEN HIS HOME IS ON FIRE, COMPLACENCY OR COLLUSION WITH FULANI HERDMEN, PROBE OF THE SOURCE OF OPPOSITION CAMPAIGN FUNDS AS IF APC CAMPAIGN FUNDS WERE SENT BY GOD FROM HEAVEN.

I WANT SOMEONE TO TELL ME THE ONE POSITIVE THING BUHARI HAS DONE FOR THE ECONOMY.

But it plain idiotic to blame lacklustre management capabilities on the previous administration.

Every successive government in Nigeria and all over the world inherits liabilities of some sort from previous eras.
That naturally comes with the territory.

No aspiring leader chooses and picks the best economic conditions under which to lead.

True leadership, let me repeat it again, is fashioned and honed during periods of great challenges.

If we sincerely want to play the blame game, it would take us all the way back to 1960.

It is very very obvious to anyone who has eyes and ears that Buhari has Zero qualities that true leaders are made of.

For the past 1 year, it's been sulking and whining, blaming, deflection of RESPONSIBILITIES.

Why not do a thing of honor and RESIGN and let another unfortunate person handle the economy ?

There you go again with deflection. Face the issue at hand. I asked a simple question: What is the policy direction of this government. Tell me pls.

Why is Buhari spending 40bn on oil exploration when same oil has failed us.
There was a time for blaming GEJ. That time is over now. Its a year into Buharis administration. We all recognise the mistakes of the past, from the time nigeria became a nation. But tell me the positive Buhari has done to help the economy. What is his policy direction.

Just incase you go into another deflection, let me specify my questions here clearly. Just two for now

why spend 40bn naira on oil that has failed us.
what is the economic policy direction of this administration.

fiizznation:
This was what a supposed educated person had to tell me on the other thread just because I dared to expressed my own opinion about our recessional state which is very imminent. Buhari inherited a bad economy from the previous administration, and people feel is always right when we blame buhari for all our economy woes while exonerating the previous administration of any wrongdoings. I could vividly remember when the then finance minister was urging Nigerians to brace up for the tougher times ahead.

You may be right that it is a disaster waiting to happen.

BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT HIM TO DO? ALLOW THE HERDMEN TO KEEP KILLING PEOPLE

WHAT ELSE SHOULD HE DO. HE IS DEFENDING HIS PEOPLE. IF THEY ARE NOT DEFENDED NOW, THEY WILL NOT BE ALIVE TO EVEN SEE THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCE OF WHAT HIS DECISION MIGHT LEAD TO.

GO AND TELL BUHARI TO CHECK ARREST AND IMPRISON ALL THOSE HERDSMEN. HE IS THE CAUSE OF ALL THIS. HIS SILENCE AND INACTION. IF BUHARI HAD DEALT WITH THOSE MURDERERS, FAYOSE WILL NOT BE DOING WHAT HE IS DOING.

I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE, AND I SAY IT NOW AGAIN, IF BUHARI AND HIS COHORTS DO NOT STOP ALL THESE MURDERER FULANIS, NIGERIA WILL GO INTO ANOTHER CIVIL WAR. I WEEP FOR MY COUNTRY

blackpanda:

You have said nothing with ur childish rants.
This is exactly what happened in Jos that turn the city to a war zone with enough bloodbath. Anytime govt arms private citizens with weapons, its only disaster waiting to happen.

I think i have asked you somewhere before, WHO IS PAYING YOU.
i want to add another question. HOW MUCH ARE YOU BEEN PAID

WHY IS IT THAT YOU COME HERE ALL THE TIME TO DEFEND THE INDEFENSIBLE. WHY

Are you not been affected by the rising cost of things in nigeria. Even if you are not, think of the poor masses
EVERYTHING IS NOT POLITICS. I FOR ONE DO NOT BLAME BUHARI FOR THE COLLAPSE IN OIL PRICE WHICH IS THE MAIN CAUSE OF OUR PROBLEMS.

BUT I BLAME HIM FOR LACK OF POLICY DIRECTIONS

WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD IS HE USING 40BN NAIRA FOR OIL EXPLORATION, WHEN OIL IS FAILING US.
THAT MONEY SHOULD BE SPENT ON DIVERSIFYING THE ECONOMY

WHO IS PAYING YOU. AND HOW MUCH
STOP BETRAYING YOUR OWN COUNTRY.

fiizznation:
And what's the fuzz about this? Recession is not like a permanent thing but a temporary thing. Besides the world itself is in recession due to fall in aggregate demands which is not just peculiar to Nigeria alone. Btw you can't say Nigeria is in recession now because we are still in our second quarter.

Will Nigeria be in recession next month? Probably yes. Nigeria will eventually be in recession but it will still bounce back in some couple of months. We should even be greatful that ours will be caused by demand in size stock which can always be addressed in the short run. So I don't see the big fuzz here

But i feel that we all must not keep quiet in the face of fulani onslaught and occupation and genocide.

DONT SIT IN YOUR HOUSE AND SAY YOU CANT DO ANYTHING. D
ONT LAUGH AT THE TIVS AND IDOMAS WHO ARE SUFFERING NOW AND SAY IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU.
STOP BEATING YOUR CHEST AND SAYING IF THEY COME TO MY VILLAGE THIS WILL HAPPEN, THAT WILL HAPPEN, WE WILL SHOW THEM PEPPER.
STOP PRAYING TO GOD FOR SOLUTION LIKE MANY JEWS DID IN GERMANY AND SIX MILLION OF THEM WERE KILLED.
STOP PRAYING BECAUSE GOD IS TELLING YOU TO DO SOMETHING YOURSELVE AND GOD WILL HELP YOU.
WORK AS IF EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON YOU, THEN PRAY AS IF EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON GOD.

EVIL THRIVES WHEN GOOD PEOPLE DO NOTHING

I am not calling for violence. I am calling for peaceful protest

Vote with your buying power. BOYCOTT ALL FULANI HERDSMEN PRODUCT. STOP EATING BEEF, KPOMO, SUYA

YOUR CLAIM HAS NO MERIT. COME UP WITH ANOTHER LIE OR ANOTHER PROPAGANDA PLS.

IF YOU LIKE DO 2015 ELECTION ONE HUNDRED TIMES, IGBOS WILL NOT VOTE BUHARI. IJAWS WILL NOT VOTE BUHARI, ITSEKIRIS WILL NOT VOTE BUHARI. ALL SOUTHEAST AND SOUTHSOUTH WILL NOT VOTE BUHARI.
