However, one blogger has taken to Instagram to show just how dramatically your stance can change the way you look.

20-year-old Sara Puhto has been sharing a number of side-by-side photos to her Instagram, in which one side shows ‘reality’ and the other shows how her body is perceived online.

In one particular post, Sara wore the same gym gear for two photos.

On the left, she was pictured naturally, with no planned posture – she deemed this photo to be ‘real-life’. On the right however, Sara stood tall with her back arched and her arms raised – this is what she called the ‘Instagram’ pose.
In an eye-opening post alongside the photo, Sara explained that looking at the left photo would’ve previously left her feeling negatively towards her body, as if she hadn’t worked hard for it.

She wrote: ‘If I saw the photo on the left a year ago I would’ve instantly thought so negatively about my body, that all my hard work from working out was non existent, that if someone looked at me they would’ve never thought I’ve been working out for two years and think I wasn’t trying hard enough.’

However, she went on to say that not holding posture did not mean she hadn’t been looking after her body.

‘But the thing is is that all bodies look different,’ she wrote.

‘Nobody’s booty looks round and peachy from all angles. Nobody’s body looks the same from all angles.’

Sara posted the two photos in hopes that others would be inspired not to judge their bodies because of a photo.

She wanted to make it clear that bodies can appear differently due to posture – and that a naturally posed body should not mean that it is flawed.

She also urged her followers, all 120,000 of them, not to go over the top to look good in photos nor feel they have to just because of the bodies they see on Instagram.

Sara said: ‘Don’t eat less or miss out on your favorite meals/drinks or over exercise to “look good for a holiday” or to “look good in bikini photos” because there will always be angles that are “unflattering” that might make you feel bad when you see them.

‘Instead workout and eat healthy because it makes you feel good, not as a punishment. Start loving and accepting your body at all angles with all your “flaws”, instead of trying to fit into societies image of “beauty” because that image isn’t inclusive of all individuals, which is so messed up.

‘Don’t hate yourself just because of bad photos, they do not define you as a person. You look the best when you’re living life to the fullest and happiest. There’s no point in missing out on things and stressing yourself out so much.

‘Life isn’t meant to be a competition on who can look the best and we should normalise not having to “look perfect” all the time because it’s a ridiculous concept. You are perfect the way you are.’

Sara’s photo received more than 14,000 likes, with many people thanking her for being so real about her body.
