Abia guber: Otti alleges assassination attempt 0 By Our Reporter on February 5, 2015 Trending From CHUKS ONUOHA, UMUAHIA Gove r n o r sh ip candidate of All Progre s s ive s Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has accused the state government of alleged attempt to assassinate him. Otti made the allegation in his campaign office, while briefing newsmen on what he described as series of attacks targeted at him by the Abia State Government since the commencement of the electioneering in the state. In a three-page statement which was made available to newsmen, the APGA governorship candidate said he had initially not wanted to join issues with the out-going administration over some brazen, undemocratic, barbaric an uncivilized acts by agents of government, and that recent development had made it imperative for him to bring it out to public domain. He said the actions of government were capable of heating up the polity and engineering political crisis in the state. Otti said at about 10.58 p.m. last night (Tuesday), some men, numbering about 14 and dressed in military uniform invaded his country home at Umuru Umuehim Nvosi in Isialangwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, and headed towards his main house. “On being accosted by one of the mobile policemen guarding my compound, the leader, who identified himself as an army captain, said they wanted to see me to confirm if there were soldiers in my compound.” He said after some argument, they left his compound, promising to come back, an action which, he said, raised question as to who sent them, why they came at the time they did, what their mission was and why this incident was happening 24 hours after the government issued a press statement alleging that he was keeping fake army men. www.sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=103377 |

Otti unveils blueprint for Abia, promises non-reliance on federal allocation 0 By Our Reporter on January 30, 2015 Politics Abia State governorship candidate on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Alex Otti has unveiled his blueprint towards transforming Abia State if he wins the February 28 poll. Otti, who spoke on Wednesday in Lagos during an event tagged “Evening With Alex” which doubled as a book launch and fund-raising in support of his gubernatorial election campaign, promised to bring a new and excellent dimension to public service in Abia State. He noted that the state is blessed enough to be a role model or compete with the best in the country and therefore, promised that he would not depend on the federal allocation to achieve his developmental agenda for the state. “I will not depend on Federal allocation to transform the state. I know where the money is and I will go for it,” he said. The former Group Managing Director/CEO of Diamond Bank Plc. also asserted that he would make agriculture, education, youth empowerment through job creation and infrastructure development, among others as the focus of his administration. He lamented that the current situation in Abia State was worrisome and the state had come to a terrible condition due to poor management of its resources just as he maintained that it was the bane of many states in the country. He, therefore, stated that his background and experience would come handy to give the state a facelift and place it on the trajectory of rapid development, stressing that he would never disappoint Abia people. “I have the quality and the courage; if I eventually become governor, Abia State will not remain the same,” he said, adding “people want development, they want people with impeccable character, they want people with skill, with vision; people that can turn service around in Abia State.” and all those are some of the things we have going for us because we are widely accepted by the people.” Otti disclosed that his foray into politics after several years in the corporate world was “driven by patriotic zeal and abiding desire to contribute more directly to the overall socio-economic and political transformation of Abia State”. On whether the race is going to be a roller coaster for him, he maintained that it might not be easy but there is hope that at the end there will be cause to celebrate. “The race is not set but has started; the election is around the corner. We are surging on and is not an easy process but we found out that we have found favour in His sight”, he said. On the high level politics laced with propaganda that seems to have become the norm as the election approaches, Otti said he would not indulge in that because he believed in himself and his vision for Abia State. “We are not going to spend time spreading propaganda because any product that is good sells itself”, he said. When the book titled “Saving the Future: Agenda for Economic Development And Prosperity” was launched it was a praise galore for the governorship candidate while the fund raising time could be described as a moment of Naira rain. Perhaps as a sign of his acceptability, the event was graced by eminent personalities that crossed across all strata of the society with people from his primary constituency heavily represented. A royal touch was also added to the event with the presence of Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, both of who attested to the good quality and administrative acumen of Otti, which they said reflected in his days at the banking sector where he showed that he had the Midas touch to turn things around. Dr. Otti started started his banking career in 1989 with the Nigeria International Bank Limited, a subsidiary of Citibank New York. In 1996, he moved to the United Bank for Africa Plc as Head, Corporate Banking Sector, South. In 2000, he was promoted Assistant General Manager. In 2001, he moved to First Bank of Nigeria Plc as an Assistant General Manager and was appointed an Executive Director, Commercial Banking in September 2005. On March 1, 2011, he assumed duties as Group Managing Director/CEO of Diamond Bank Plc where he was until 2014 when he quit the position to go into politics in his home state. www.sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=102454 |

APGA Candidate Alex Otti Attracts 100 Billion Dollars Grant To Build Industrial Park In Aba Feb 18, 2015 Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Alex Otti, said he has attracted International Finance Corporation’s (IFC)’s grant of $100 billion for an industrial park in Aba. The APGA governorship candidate has also promised to recall the non-indigenes in the Abia State civil service sacked by the present administration. Otti, who stated this on Monday while presenting his manifesto at a political event organised by the Aba Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture in Aba, explained that the money would be accessed as soon as he becomes governor of the state. He informed his audience that the grant from IFC was structured in such a way that it would not suffer depreciation as a result of the fluctuations in the exchange rate. Otti who equally addressed members of the Aba Sports Club afterwards also said the commercial town would soon begin to enjoy uninterrupted power supply with the completion of the Geometric Power Plant in Osisioma, near Aba, which is awaiting inauguration by President Goodluck Jonathan. He recalled how in 2009 he, as the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Bank, intervened when the construction of the plant suffered a setback due to the lack of funds and expressed delight that the project had been completed as efforts were being made to sort out outstanding issues delaying its inauguration. He promised to tackle the infrastructure deficit in Aba, especially the deplorable road condition, blocked drainages and environmental challenges. The APGA flag bearer said a special ministry would be created to re-design and rebuild Aba, adding that he had the international connection and integrity to access grants and investment from multinational organisations for the overall development of the state. “There are multinational organisations with grants and aids tied to developmental needs, such as water, electricity, rural development and agriculture. But such monies will only go to people who have a track record of credibility and transparency,” he said. Earlier in his speech, the President of the chamber, Chief Anthony Enukeme, said the forum was organised to afford the candidates the opportunity to showcase their manifestoes to the people. A prominent member of the Chamber, Chief John Udeagbala, called on the people to rise to the challenge and work for a positive change in Abia by voting massively for Otti. http://www.ekekeee.com/apga-candidate-alex-otti-attracts-100-billion-dollars-grant-build-industrial-park-aba/ |

Abia 2015: Otti to Create Ministry of Aba Affairs to Boost Economy By Our Reporter on February 18, 2015 Politics By JOB OSAZUWA The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has disclosed plans to create the Ministry of Aba Affairs to hasten economic development of the Enyimba city if elected on April. Otti disclosed this during a recent business luncheon with members of Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA), where he said such a ministry had become necessary to fast-track the development of the commercial city, which he observed was currently in shambles. At the parley with the Aba business community, he said the planned ministry was an initiative targeted at complementing other agencies of government and to speedily tackle the numerous problems being experienced by residents and the business community in the city. “As most of you can attest, the infrastructure decay in Aba is alarming. Bad roads, blocked drainages, dilapidated market structures and poor city management. All these will be tackled once we are in government,” Otti declared. The forum afforded members of ACCIMA and other Aba indigenes to discuss with APGA’s candidates with a view to forging a symbiotic alliance to tackle the myriad of challenges facing business operations in the ancient city. The Chief Executive officer of Tonimas, Chief Anthony Enukaeme, who is also the President of ACCIMA, expressed confidence in Otti’s blueprint to transform the entire Abia State, which is currently the dream of all Abians. Also at the event, Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Aba branch, Dr. Mike Ikejiaku, quizzed Otti on how he intends to revive healthcare sector in the state. According to him, the current government in the state had incapacitated the sector with health workers owed salaries for six months. Representing hotel managers/owners, Chief Godwin Egbuchulam, asked Otti how he would resolve what he described as multiple taxation, lamenting that it had become the bane of business growth in Aba in particular, and the state in general. In his response, Otti disclosed his intention to build new specialist hospitals in the state and pay outstanding debts owed not only health workers, but all civil servants in the state. Otti restated his promise to abolish all forms of multiple taxations in the state to give businesses a breathing space. He also declared his unflinching support for all non-indigenes plying their trade in the state, assuring that his government would offer them maximum protection without any discrimination. “As long as you live here, do business or work here, pay your tax as at when due, law abiding and you are contributing to the economy of the state, you are entitled to enjoy equal privileges. “The current government sacked civil servants that are not indigenes of this state with a flimsy excuse that they are taking jobs from the indigenes. I call that an inhuman decision. It also shows that they are bereft of ideas on how to create jobs. “With our blue print for the state, we will create jobs that will accommodate both indigenes and non-indigenes, open up our state to local and foreign investors by creating an enabling environment for business to thrive “, Otti promised. The governorship hopeful urged the participants to see it as a duty to vote for him and other APGA candidates in the forthcoming elections in the state, saying that APGA is the only party that can bring about the change and transformation that Abians desire. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=105407 |
