Its no compulsory, its just that u need to show ur L.A d preliminary couse form so that he/she will guide u on d courses to register. Some L.A use to get annoyed if u do not show them d preliminary course b4 paying.

Let me chip in a lil...

In the oil industry we have upstream and downstream.
Upstream is mainly exploration and production, that is where you will find Petroleum Engineers, though Petroleum engineering is wider than that. It includes reservoirs, well logs etc...

Downstream sector is dominated by Chemical engineers and this is where there are enormous opportunities In Oil refineries. Chemical engineers design, construct and operate process plants in every section of the oil refinery.
Last time I checked, the people heading NNPC and Oil refineries are Chemical engineers.
The Opportunity is very wide tho, this is just my 2kobo
