In defense of the judge, the id.iot didn't steal a bag of ribs, but the whole $35 rack.

Before you crusify the judge., Did u consider the intension of the robbers? Did you hear that they were carriying cutlass and loaded guns? I am sure they didnt just plan to steal fowls only. These guys would have killed, raped or stolen 10M if they found reasons to when they commited the act.
Note that they had come b4 and also they were many in numbers. Why would they steal from a poor woman with such wicked arms if they had come b4? They are truly evil people.

They were not sentenced to death for stealing a fowl. Rather, they were for ARMED ROBBERY. Simply put, they used offensive weapons while at it, and according to the Robber and Firearms Provision, the sentence for that is death. This means, if a person arms himself with an offensive weapon to steal an egg, he will be sentenced to death if found guilty.

And that is the law, not my words... not the Judge's too.

No matter what you think and say the judgement is still very harsh. They did not kill anybody with their weapons and now they are gonna die.
Nigeria laws are stupid laws.

Even though the sentence is harsh, the law must take its course. The penalty for armed robbery is a death sentence once convicted . Quite unfortunate the objects were mere fowls and our politicians get away with worse. Really sad

I dont think d judge is right in his / her judgement, he / she is dancing 2 d music of d policeman who's items was stolen. They were convicted of and sentenced to death for CONSPIRACY to commit armed robbery! They were armed with dane gun and cutlasses. It doesn't matter what they succeed in stealing, once you plan with another (conspire) to commit armed robbery, whether you succeed or not, if convicted, the punishment is either life sentence or death! All of you shouting, have you ever faced an armed robber? Have you ever been shot even after you have been robbed? The judge is right! That part of your post is certainly erroneous. Conspiracy to do what? Theres no crime called conspiracy, something must follow it.
You only get death penalty in Naija if you commit ARMED robbery and no judge will be foolish enough to sentence anyone to death for any stealing that does not involve arms. The judge will risk loosing his job and bar license.

Oga corrector, they got the death sentence for conspiracy to commit armed robbery. If there was no conspiracy charge they should still have gotten a death sentence for Robbery.
