Am disapointed with this statement. Some of us left school with 2.2 not that we didnt worth 1st class but were frustrated by deans and HOD and even lecturers. I bet to challenge any one who claims to posses 1st class.

My Father graduated with a First Class. Does that count?

listen girl,i graduated with a 2.1 in ACCOUNTING, a C.GPA OF 3.81 and at the age of 21
but i got a job 2 years after NYSC!!!

A friend of mine graduated wit a 2.2 in the same course and class but got a zenith job 6 month after NYSC

I quess we all know that some b/cos of the currupt educational syst many poeple with these Grades didnt work 4 or deserve it.If employers will b serious and sincere with their job test, believe you me guys with d best grades will not come out tops.

Duttybarb,I am sure you are one of those who got 'a good grade (2.1)'thru mago mago.Because you have a 2.1 doesnt make you the best University graduate.How many people with the so called good grade can justify what they have? I think what matters most is your potential result and not what you have on paper.Most of the notable men and women in this country today came out with a very low grade but have achieved stupendious success in their choosen career.I did graduate with a second class hon- Upper division but that is not to say that I am the best.Please learn to be reasonable.You should be aware of the fact that we live in a society where merit is not rewarded.There are many potential first class and second class upper division materials out there who were deprived of their actual grades in school.What one will become in life does not depend on the grade obtained from the University or polytechnic as the case may be

Hi all, I'm new to the site though i've gone through some of the previous posts. I must give kudos to the originator of the site (Seun I believe) it's a really nice initiative. From what i think i gleaned so far, he decided not to proceed to any higher institution for reasons best known to him (I hope i'm not wrong). Did it occur to y'all that we have people with 2.1's looking for job in this site that was created by someone who doesn't have a first class or 2.1 but who has a first class brain? So i'll implore us all to encourage each other rather than say or write things that will depress others. While not completely disagreeing with people's views that too much hype is placed on paper certificate in this country, we must all agree that it certainly helps if you have better grades and those who are still in school should endeavor to improve their grades if its not too late. I'm employed and i must say i didn't get it through any connection but just through God's grace and the fact that i made a 2.1 which enabled me to be called for different tests. The truth of the matter is that if you don't have a 2.1 or first class, you might not get called for "some" tests but it definitely is not the end of the world, you'll get called for some. I'll encourage those with 2.2 and 3rd class to keep striving and dont give up.We all shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket. You can always do something constructive while waiting for that one breakthrough. Good luck all.

I really happy for u girl but guess what there are many people out there with grades lowere than 2.2 but hey they are working and earning good money and would most likely start their own business

I think Blasterman and Duttybarb belongs to another world, their view is so blur and that daft, i can imagine what they're up to, Imagine if Duttybarb heads and organisation, he'll run it down with this his pessimistic view, he can't even see beyond the cloud,so short-sighted,Duttybarb cannot have seen or noticed the naturally endowed qualities in any Polytechnic grauates for example,it's a shame that he allows his mouth to make a speech without consulting his brain. pls u guys shdn't crucify dutty afterall he apologised b/4 he made that comment. i guess he's trying to reflect what is happening in nigeria now where 1st class and 2:1 are only recognised irrespective of the course and it is the truth, so our undergradutes shd strive to make it now that they have the chance. at the end who becomes 'richer' is not based on your grade but it is good to arm yourself with a good grade.

You are talking as if you lack statistical facts and figures in life.It is only God that gives success in this world.It is only God that gibes wisdom as well.Whatever you achieve today isof God, and such prowess should not be use to intimidate or bring other down to damnation.Let me ask, are you a believer(muslim/christian)?If yes is the answer that statement you made about grade is satanic.

Let me back to my opening statement.Do you Gani Fawehinmi,Prof Wole Soyinka,Bill Gate(USA),Nodoru Tekeshita(Japan),Arthur Nzeribe(He worked in Shell with WAEC certificate-He did not have formal education(university),and majority of your house of reps and senates are average students.It is not what you carry that matters,it is how how you maximise your potentials.That iswhy America look less on certificates but ability to perform.

A graduate of 2.1 went for interview at shell and he was asked to write statement,the first line of it statement were full of error of syntax.

1.1, 2.1, 2.2,etc,It is God that we should look unto for success and not what we carry(ordinary paper)

whats all the screaming about . 2.1 ,2.2, 3.1, pass are all grades. they are for humans and not 4 goats!!! y'all should try to accomodate every1. u find out, the best entrepreneurs in the world didn't leave skuul wv 1st class or 2.1. i say this not out of sentiment or trying to console my self ( i hv i 2.1. in elect engineering!!) so i'd say if u hv 2.2 or 3rd class, consider urself fortunate as u have the drive that will make u want to excel and do better than ur 2.1. countrparts. you can soar!!!

That small girl should shut her dirty mouth. The fact must be stated here, everybody is not created equal. Not everybody will come out with 1st class or 2.1 and i strongly believe that there is something people with other grades can do better than those with good grades. its all about self discovery. The employers should take note of this

browsing through this site for the first time, I'm really surprised at the holla balu of this topic. Anyways, it will surprise you that i graduated 8yrs ago with a 3rd class, got a job six months after NYSC and it was my first application, did not even know any one there.
I can also attest to the fact that i know of some people who graduated with a 2:1 or even 1:1, but when you discuss with them, its a total apology. Most human Resources Department has realised that packaging is the best method of recruitment and not degrees so they always ask for your certificates after the stages of exams and interviews.
Third class of a thing can be caused as a result of some challenges one must have faced in school(which was my own case) but on job examinations or interviews stages, my degree no longer counted but performace. And today i have worked in three wonderful companies and presently, a head of department in the company(which is a paying well one) i work.
Just want to encourage those intelligent ones who because of one (genuine) challenges actually came out with a third class. All hope is not lost. Just have and maintain your confidence. Although in 2005, i completed a Masters program. This is to act as an edge, in case of some companies insisting.

Whats dis whole topic abt?Why not ask Wole Soyinka or Gani why they didnt come out with first class or 2'1?They are even more successful than their peers that came out with a first class and 2'1.Abeg leave tori is what u have upstairs dt matters.

Reuben Abati- know him? He sits on the board of Guardian newspapers. He got his P.hd at 25!!!!!!! Chew on that for a minute. How old are you? 19, 18 How old? I suggest you take your ass off your shoulders and serve a better purpose with that grade of yours-encourage others, don't pull them down. You have pride smeared all over you. Hey Duttybarh, everything na God ooo (God grace), I have seem and heard of graduates that had first class and second class upper that are still jobless, and thank God I have seem and heard of graduate that had third class and pass turning out to be successful business executives.
Having a 2.2, a third class and Pass grade doesn’t mean one won’t get a good job; everything is by the God’s grace. Haven’t you heard of an interview that graduates were disqualified because they are not graduates of the first five universities; I think our corporate society is the cause of these discriminating acts.
If you are giving an advice please give it clear term, I support your idea of encouraging undergraduate to try as much as possible to obtain good grades.
So, don’t feel bad the way people have responded to your opinion.
For people with 2.2 and below grades that are still jobless your miracle jobs are on the way in Jesus name. Amen.

i see you people are still yarning opaks. all of u cheerleaders of second rate performance, dont make me swear for u. i dont care if u are a pass student working in shell or a 1st class student running a bank , this is for all the undergraduates who are reading or adding to this website, stop decieving them, tell them the reality of life. i had a friend who served in access bank but was told he could nt get a job beyond sales analyst becos he had a 2.2. I ave a friend who cant wok in a consultancy firm but can only make do as an intern becos he has a 2.2.
Im not trying to diss or hurt anybody only giving u the reality of life,
AND F.Y.I i am currently working in a bank and getting very ok pay becos i had the sense to get a 2.1. I am not a retail marketer which is where they normally dump all those 2.2 graduates, no offense to the 2.1 peeps who are doing well in this field, so grow up and advise our youths

my dears, that you made an A in class does not mean you have made an A in life vice versa, so lets forget about the grades and push on, not forgeting that if you have a dream of working in some places that doesnt accept anything below 2.1, you must aspire to make a 2.1 or above, that is your mission towards your dream, DREAM BIG!!
