many times I've been chatting with a girl and suddenly I hear "goodnight dear".."sorry my dear".. how are you dear"... I want to ask (to the ladies) does this have a special meaning or do you say it to just anyone. (to the guys) do you use the word to address just any lady.

It is used for greeting in both formal and informal letters.

I understand emotios may not be attached in a formal speech or discussion but what of in an informal discussion between a male and a female

nothing special about it, in fact its more like a friendzone word...only exception is when you're already dating

I use it for anybody and it isn't an emotional thing for me. I use it for my loved ones

It's a casual word. It doesn't mean anything. I can use it to address anyone.

It is special,partially. It is not special for someone like me because I use it for almost all my female friends and also younger siblings. I still believe it depends on who uses it though.

Dear(animal) is very calm and gentle. Maybe that has something to do with it, as in like how you say honey to someone special(cos honey is sweet)

The word "DEAR" has really degenerated into a common word. It has lost its potency in our world today, because of the deceptive nature of human being(What they say is not necessarily what they meant)... Many times I use it for people that share common interests with me!!!
