of recent...about a couple of days ago..I basically made a write up of the best top 10 courses and hot cake in nigeria as at today..

but I have finally,come up with another write up of the top 10 worst degrees with lowest potential for employment in nigeria as at today

certainly,there is no degree that guarantees one job in & by itself however given the current economic situation and the fast pace of economic and technological shift in the continent and nigeria in particular there are degrees you would be better off not investing your time and resources to acquire as opportunities affected in those areas are increasingly getting eroded...if however you have a degree in any of them and finding it tough to make career headway it's time to put on your thinking cap
1 General Arts;
this cover anything from art history to painting/sculpture in the western world and developed countries having a degree in the arts could fetch one decent job opportunities several years ago..after the depression however with many european economic still sttuggling to recover it's becoming increasingly tough to find opportunities for majors in such areas like archeology,painting/fine art,history et cetera.

the opportunities for these sort of degrees are shrinking and people with the academic credentials thinking to get themselves a job in related field would have to do a cot of innovative and pro active thinking.
career counsellors advise those who want to study such things as art,dance,and music to have a specific strategy...sometimes a way out could be getting a higher degree(such as masters).

2 Humanities and liberal Arts;
if you love sitting and thinking about the intricacies of life and expounding on theories of existence or analysing political theories and events there may not be enough opportunities to do that in real life with your philosophy or political science degree to earn good money..
Humanities and liberal Art degree courses like Anthropology,political science,philosophy and many more do not give the graduates who passes them specific in road into the employement market..unlike professional courses like engineering,and the business field having a degree in any of the humanities may not really point one to a specific career direction.

3 Education;
unless you are willing to take higher degrees and pursue teaching opportunities at higher levels of the education ladder having an education degree is hardly going to get you the best jobs.
the only ways a graduate degree holder in education will do better is either to go for higher qualification and try to break into higher level teaching or do a career switch entirely and go for higher qualification in a different field that has more career prospects.

4 Religious studies;
Given the way churches and self styled pastors are springing up in every nook and cranny it should appear that splurging money on a religious studies degree will present the holder with bright prospects...however nothing can be further from the truth..except you are willing to plunge in and open your own church down the street,becoming a quran clutching preacher et cetera...there are hardly any existing opportunities for you to explore if you have a religiouss studies degree and wish to exploit opportunities there in.

5 Mass communication;
In considering mass communication we had a struggle with choosing a few other courses ahead of mass communication but at the end the argument was too much against mass communication degree.
the increasing introduction of media technology is eating away at the former strongholds of mass communication graduates..reporters and journalist find the rug being gradually pulled of their feet as bloggers and writers who hitherto knew nothing about mass communication.

take over the business of news discovering and sharing newspaper and television are no longer holding the baton in exclusive control of the media business...for mass comm.majors who wish to find and pursue the right career day need to understand the change in mass media and communication tools and acquire the right skills.
other worst course are;
6 botany
7 social studies
8 english literature
9 zoology
10 forest and wildlife management(wonderwhat you wana do with these,mayb you will use the certificate for cutting of woods in the forest)

What I often see here is dat some folks are too in a hurry to comment, to contend, to oppose, insult and more... Often times we fail to read, understand from the writer's thought pattern before commenting! My admonition, just go back and read again!

1. 70% of those in opposition never applied for any of these course, Jamb or PostUME landed them there!
2. 80% of those in opposition are working outside their field of study currently(e.g zoologist in bank)

Pls, I beg, just read again!!! Get his thought pattern! Then respond appropriately!

Young man...

Do you Know how many Fine Artist's end up in the advertising sector?
Oh.. so you are totally unaware of the fact that the high-end graphics on TV and the eye catching billboards are executed by artists?

I'm really sad with the rate @ which Nairaland has gone to the dogs. It is really bad. Anyone who thinks otherwise should browse through threads created just before 2009 and compare them with now... the chasm between the intelligence quotient of posters back then and the posters of nowadays is mind-blowingly IMMENSE!!

7years from now, Only Lord knows how daft the posters in nairaland will be...if this trend continues unabated.

Happy New Year y'all.

In Nigeria, wat u read nw does nt mata o, a graduate of general art can get job sharply dan a graduate of engr, and even d education u mention, na hot cake course o, d thing is dat no course is useless o, ar u saying dat a graduate of fishery is beta dan a graduate of engr, graduate na graduate, its just dat each course has its own advantages n disadvantages, as a construction engr once u make any error in d design of a building n dat building collapse, u knw dat d engr wil b in soup, so dont condemn any course o, all brains have their carrying capacity, nt because a course is hot cake u may want to divert one's area of study, at d end dat person may regret doing dat hot cake course.

Let me add to this, everyone complains of unemployment cuz people keep such thinking in mind...worst course! Really...we lack creativity in this country thats we never see where the potentials of individual courses lie...today every one is talking agriculture but what we dont realize is we depend on foreigners to give us the best seeds to grow crops, we need them to give us the best animals to culture if u really interested in making profit whereas these aremultibillion naira
industries that havent bin explored locally effectively. Yes we produce but wat quality of yield do we produce, how do ww check for disease n shortcomings, we havent even finished exploring wat we eat not to speak of the drugs we use, the rubbers, timber, papers, furniture...these are all plant...maintained and nurtured by farmers n botanist...we wont grow if we dont know haw to reason beyond wats in existence...we run a manegerial economy where buying and selling is considered the best. Every artist that performs successfully has a bunch of soo many unseen professionals who naturally wont make it to ur top 10 or worse 10 but have more jobs that those u consider the hottest.

Its a shame that somebody will waste valuable time listing hot and cold courses in our institutions, of what value is it to those who studied the aformentioned courses? Should they denounce their degrees and take a course in medicine? Is that what ur point is? Its people like u that think education is all about getting employment, education is suppose to build an individual into creating something new, creating jobs, bringing innovations and improving the society.

You that composed those unprofitable list above what did u study in school? What are u doing for a living? Are both answers related? If yes then you are lucky, if no u better start telling ursef the truth.

In ur low thinking mentality of unemployability based on discipline, has the word ''enterprenurship'' simply dissapeared? I believe u are educated that's why u can post stuffs about education, but by posting above, u have not helped anyone out there.

What we should be talking about now is not about getting a job, its about creating one, the government are trying to disemphacise employments for the youths, they have started insinuating that youths should be instrument of job creation, instead of people like the OP that I assume is a youth to encourage job creation, he is preaching the old age sermon of ''go to school and graduate to get a job'', our society is indeed moving faster than u can imagin, people have started discovering alternatives to writing great CVs, they have started accepting CVs!

OP u need to wake up, wake up from the myopic view of the ''job hunt'' strategy to innovation and creation of jobs. That job u maybe doing now was created by someone, and u are satisfied been a subordinate for life, that's modern day slavery, simply because u red medicine does not mean u have to remain an employee of an hospital, a medical doctor can digress and do research in order to creat solutions for the so many uncurable diseases flying around.

So fellow nairalanders don't be discouraged by what OP said if ur discipline is listed above, u can challenge ur gots and creat something, so that people like the OP can beg u 4 a slot in ur business, and because dats his desire in life, he will be ur servant and u will pay him peanuts.

Last bullet: it is not about what u read in school that matters, its about ur personal talents that u developed over the years, most graduates did not study their dream courses, therefore we cannot base our personality and career based on the fact that we read one course or the other. I wish all of us a prosperous 2015!
that's an encouraging fit..i am really impressed with your able fit not being a deterrent to my fellow nairaland..

according to me,i never said anything about difficulty in abundant earning in my write up in the aforemention(try to improve yourself in quality interpretation and not jump into conclusion in a haste)..

what i said was that"any affected individual that eventually find herself in the aforemention should prolly strategize a good and impressive innovation"...because unlike other profession who hardly hunt for job many years..and dont pretend you know nothing about what's going on in labour market this 21st century..

your encouragement is quite welcoming and of ease but try to be realistic sometimes!

and by the way am still an undergraduate(studyin accounting in one of prestigious versity) ..but i am more experience and enlightened about this whole write up of mine
