Tunde stared at her as if she was the devil himself , a vein throbbed on his neck, and he was breathing deeply, noisily. She must have seen the anger on his face because she shifted back, narrowing her eyes and crossing her arms. ' What did you say?' Tunde asked his wife, talking in a carefully controlled manner. ' I told him to come', his wife replied, her voice shaking in frustration. Tunde gritted his teeth, making count ours appear at the side of his head. Their son Divine entered the parlour, ' Daddy... Daddy, my aunty beat today'. ' Get away from me', Tunde snapped at his son, who shifted back a little. ' Why? Can't I tell you a thing and you do it', Tunde exclaimed, banging the table with his hand. ' What is it?', his wife yelled, sharpening the tone of her words,' why are you always jealous? I only invited him for a dinner and for mating'.She stood to leave the sitting room. 'Ashake, if you move an inch'. She hissed, left the room, shifting the centre-table as she did so, and then banged the door behind her. 1 Like |

'That woman is not coming to this house',Jide stated and picked up the tv remote turning away. 'Is my mum 'that woman'?',Mary slammed angrily,'Have you totally gone mad?Even if you shout from morning till night,my mother is coming here'. The baby started crying as Mary turned back into the kitchen mumbling inaudibly to herself. Jide shouted back at her,'Would you come back here?Since when did you become so rude?I am talking and you just want to walk away. You must be out of your mind!',he shouted and got up from the chair. The baby's wailings increased as the tension in the room doubled. 'If that woman walks into this house, know that you are out!',Jide pushed his three year old daughter out of his way as she tried soothing her kid brother. Mary hissed loudly unaware her husband had reached behind her as he pulled her back and landed a slap across her face. |

Thankfully, I was sitting on the mattress when I received the call. My face contorted with a mixture of pure anger and outright shock. I refused to believe I'd heard right. I summoned the call register on my phone to be sure I wasn't dreaming; I wasn't. Mechanically, I got up. The time was 8:30pm and the kids were asleep. I took my phone and car keys and headed out into the cold, rainy night. I shouldn't have left the kids alone, I thought, but I figured I'd be back soon. Five minutes later, I parked near the gate of a building, allowing the car to steam; my eyes trained on the entrance of the building. After ten minutes, they walked out; my husband and his mistress. I gripped the steering tighter. They stopped near his car and kissed passionately; I died a thousand times... |
