Leave Gowon out of this. Nobody has ever accused him of corruption. Both his admirers and detractors agree that he is one of the most dignified leaders we have ever had.

For a military Head of State who ruled for 9 long years - during the oil boom - and presided over money-guzzling post-war reconstruction efforts, you have to agree that his corruption perception is extremely low, and nobody has ever accused him of stashing billions away somewhere. The man gets less praise than he deserves.

Although virtually every Nigerian is corrupt in one way or the other, if I have to narrow it down to the political class, then the award of the most corrupt Nigerian alive has to go to the legendary Asiwaju of Greed - Bola Tinubu. Forget the likes of IBB and other Heads of State who are generally believed to have amassed billions of dollars during their regimes. Bola Tinubu is arguably the most compulsively and obsessively corrupt human being that has ever lived in the geographical space known as Nigeria.

His penchant for primitive accumulation borders on a mental disorder of some sort, and I have no doubt that if the scale of his wealth is ever revealed, Nigerians would be shocked.
