Yes, but like every word, it can have several meanings when used in phrase/idiom/slang. Mojo, according to the Oxford English dictionary is "a magic charm, talisman or spell" and it's also a Cuban sauce. Funny how things gets changed, when they're used in slang.

Oh okay.Thanks.

I guess languages are evolving and hitherto unknown meanings are added to work.

I just pray I don't wake up one day and learn that jizz now also means "to eat or drink".

RULES OF CASTLING

since we understand how to castle we have to understand that there are rules to castling. you don't just carry your rook and king and then say you wanna castle with them.

here are the rules:

1.All the squares between the king and rook must be empty

2. The king and the the rook must have never been moved during the game for castling to take to
place.

So if you have moved your king, forget it mehn. There is no more hope for you to castle. Same with the rook, though you may still have a lil chance of castling with the rook as there are two rooks. if you cant castle with one castle with the other. as long as the king hasn't been moved

3.You cannot castle when the king is under attack i.e under check...even if you haven't moved either pieces.

meaning you cant castle your way outta check
You have to block the check or move the king out of check depending on the situation. By moving the king, castling has been nullified.

4. King cant castle if castling would put him in check or under attack.

5. You can't castle when your opponent's piece is attacking any of the castling squares.

pics to be uploaded soon

>>>1st pic referring to the 4th and 5th rule as we can see that the dark square Black Bishop is attacking the
square (the highlighted square) the White King
should rest on if White castled to the King's side. so it is impossible to castle to the king side in this situation but still possible to castle to the queen side.

>>>>2nd pic referring to the 3rd rule. the king is under attack by the Rook. so he can't castle

>>>>3rd pic referring to the 1st rule....at the queen side there is a knight blocking the king thereby preventing him from castling.

>>>>4th pic in reference to the 2nd rule...

Can you let us know the value MG lasker assigned to a king, or you may provide us with a link as a proof.

A king is assigned ∞ as value, because it is a priceless piece, period.

4. EN PASSANT

En Passant this is a french word meaning in passing. As we know the pawn is known as one of our weakest pieces and moves just one or two steps from its starting position and one step forward till it gets a promotion and leaves the board finally, that's if it survives to get there. grin
https://www.nairaland.com/2152083/chess-basics-beginners#30824341

(this is to just to remind us on the movement of the pawn in case we have forgotten)

Many people play chess games without even using the en passsant rule,(me too grin) it doesn't mean that we shouldn't learn or know more about it. As beginners it is very important to know the rules that exist in the game even if you won't use it in the end.

Now, En Passant is a special move carried out by a pawn to another pawn. note:a pawn to another pawn. Not to any other piece oh!

Why was it created?
En passant was created so that pawns cannot escape capture by an opponent's pawns by moving two squares from their starting position. This might sound confusing, but it is actually easy to learn.

Now let's say that i m playing as black and lets say luxanne tongue is playing as white.

Now it is my turn has black to play. i have seen ahead of my dear opponent that if i play my pawn to b6 she would obviously and with no mercy take my pawn on b6 with her c5 pawn.(picture 1)
In my mind i be like: 'this babe think she's smart let me show her who owns the chess board'grin and then i move my pawn two steps instead of the normal one step. (picture 2)

In my mind i have avoided my pawn from being taken, but unknowingly. This girl has something up her sleeves. This is where the en passant rule applies she can still take my pawn like though i just moved one square. so she moves her pawn diagonally to b6 (picture 3)

in the process she takes my pawn off the board and remains on the b6 square (picture 4)

The en passant capture must be done immediately after my black pawn advances two squares. If she plays another move she cannot then decide to capture en passant!

Thanks Joywendy for your time, really do appreciate your efforts in this smiley

Hmm. Didn't know the king could even move 2 steps (castling), looking forward to that lecture.

Btw, its only in chess I've come to see that the Queen protects her King, in reality, no be so o the King is considered a weakling or coward if he dares it gringringrin chei, this chess King sha angry

The queen has been empowered, even at the point of emasculating the King.

Chess is right. It is always right. That is how it should be in real life.
The Queen is the most powerful while the king is the "game". In fact the king is the kingdom itself.

Yeah, I get that without the king, there is no game or kingdom phrase, was simply making a joke about the king being protected by the queen also, fighting for the king not to be captured - reversed roles.

Thinking more about it now, its kinda cool contrary to the women is the weaker vessels and needs to be protected cliche we've always heard. But in chess, the queen also fights to protect the coward king who always hides in his chambers afraid of being captured tongue lol maybe whoever invented the chess game must have been a feminist.

Funny indeed! grin

Actually the move of the queen from chess history was quite limited, she moved like the pawn somewhat but that changed in the 15th century. The modern day move we know see was inspired by a very influential Queen at that time called Queen Isabella of Spain.

You can check that out, its what i know anyways. There has been a lot of arguments on why the queen seems to be more powerful than the king. Quite interesting too smiley

Lol Will read about her then. She must be powerful to be associated with the queen of chess.

And the arguments on why the queen seems to be more powerful than the king, that will be one hell of a debate, lol

Nice thread for y'all chess enthusiasts... keep up the good work, joywendy.

#Pro tip for you guys... not that I'm exactly a pro though: please don't call the rook a castle, pretty please! It's old school and just gives you away as a beginner, lol. Just call it a rook and you'll be alright.

Also, learn the algebraic notation, that is, the board coordinates... learn it so well you can actually 'see' the whole board in your head, it'll make you a solid, real chessplayer in no time. Even with the board upside down too!

Example, the square e6 upside down would be d3... e8 is d1, b4 is g5, that kinda stuff.

Finally for today, for starters know the colour of all 64 squares of the board like you know your times tables e.g. d6 dark, e8 light, b3 light, g5 dark... and believe me, I'm typing this without a board right now... I don't even have a chess set or mat. If I can do it, you can too.

Later maybe I'll post some lessons about understanding chess notation and reading chess moves/games... depending on the direction this thread goes, and with joywendy's permission of course.

Hasta la vista, amigos.

Ah, I see... notation has been covered. Okay, I'll post lessons on something else then, probably about understanding chess tactics.

Lolz I don't play blindfold chess... yet! I generally lose the position in my head after like 15 to 25 moves, buh I'm still working on it.

There is someone I know that also used to give blindfold exhibitions. His name is Oke Onoruvie (aka Sisqo). He is a lawyer and I dont think he plays chess anymore which is a shame cos he was very strong.

Well I will see what we can do about that chess notation, maybe make it another lesson on its or something.
I just have a few more chess terminologies to talk about. Chess tactics is part of it as well, so anytime you are ready. You can start on that lesson btw I really appreciate your efforts in this.smiley
