Let's Take A Look At Slavery As Contained In Bible Verses by parisbookaddict(f): 1:49pm On Feb 22, 2015
There is a tendency to look at slavery as something of the past.
But it is estimated that there are today over 27 million people in the
world(especially in the middle east, Asia and Africa) who are subject to slavery: forced labor, sex trade, inheritable
property, etc. As those who have been redeemed from the slavery of
sin, followers of Jesus Christ should be the foremost champions of
ending human slavery in the world today.

The question arises, though,
why does the Bible not speak out strongly against slavery? yet gives
instructions on how slaves should be treated ( Deuteronomy 15:12-15), but does not outlaw slavery altogether.
Many see this as the Bible condoning all forms of slavery. for example;

deut 15:12
If any of your people—Hebrew men or women—sell themselves to you and serve you six years, in the seventh year you must let them go free. 13 And when you release them, do not send them away empty-handed. 14 Supply them liberally from your flock, your threshing floor and your winepress. Give to them as the Lord your God has blessed you. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you. That is why I give you this command today.

Bibical slavery critics often forget these laws protected slaves from being abused by their masters:

Killing a slave merited punishment.1(Ex 21:20)

Permanently injured slaves had to be set free (Ex 21:26-27)

If fathers chose(As was traditional done 4000 years ago with ancient jews) , they could sell their daughters as a maidservant and wife. Since they were then married to their master, they were not automatically set free after six years (though unmarried female slaves were freed, as Dt 15:12explicitly states). However, they were still protected by the law:
If the husband divorced his wife, the law labeled it "unfair treatment" and allowed for her to be freed (Ex 21:cool

Slaves who ran away from oppressive masters were effectively freed (Dt 23:15-16)
The law also gave slaves a day of rest every week (Ex 20:10, Dt 5:14).

Slaves were to be treated as hired workers, not slaves (Lev 25:39-43)

All slaves were to be freed after six years (Ex 21:2, Dt 15:12) As stated previously above..

Freed slaves were to be liberally supplied with grain, wine and livestock (Dt 15:12-15)

Every fiftieth year (the year of jubilee), all Hebrew slaves were to be freed, even those owned by foreigners (Lev 25:10, 47-54)

In special cases, slaves could choose to remain with their masters if they felt it was in their best interests (Dt 15:16-17).

If someone bought a wife for his son, he was to treat her as his daughter (Ex 21:9)
Neglected wives were automatically freed (Ex 21:10-11)

If a Hebrew sold himself as a slave to a foreigner, he reserved the right to buy his freedom (Lev 25:47-49) and was still to be treated as a hired man (Lev 25:53).

some of u are now perhaps thinking oh slavery is not so bad..

What many fail to understand is that slavery in biblical times was very different
from the slavery that was practiced in the past few centuries in many
parts of the world. The slavery in the Bible was not based exclusively on
race. People were not enslaved because of their nationality or the color
of their skin. In Bible times, slavery was based more on economics; it was
a matter of social status. People sold themselves as slaves when they
could not pay their debts or provide for their families. In New
Testament times, sometimes doctors, lawyers, and even politicians were
slaves of someone else. Some people actually chose to be slaves so as to
have all their needs provided for by their masters.

The law explicitly condemned all of the following:
Rape (Dt 22:25-27)
Prostitution (23:17-18)
Sex outside of marriage, whether consensual or not (Ex 22:16-17, Dt 22:28-29)
Sex with a slave who was betrothed or married to someone else (Lev 19:20-22)

-

The slavery of the past few centuries was often based exclusively on
skin color. In the United States, many black people were considered
slaves because of their nationality; many slave owners truly believed
black people to be inferior human beings.

The muslim arabs and africans also were heavily involved in trading Black slaves centuries before the "white" men came into the picture....

The Bible condemns race-
based slavery in that it teaches that all men are created by God and
made in His image ( Genesis 1:27 ). At the same time, the Old Testament
did allow for economic-based slavery and regulated it. The key issue is
that the slavery the Bible allowed for in no way resembled the racial
slavery that plagued our world in the past few centuries.
In addition, both the Old and New Testaments condemn the practice of
“man-stealing,” which is what happened in Africa in the 19th century.
Africans were rounded up by slave-hunters, who sold them to slave-
traders, who brought them to the New World to work on plantations and
farms. This practice is abhorrent to God. In fact, the penalty for such a
crime in the Mosaic Law was death: “Anyone who kidnaps another and
either sells him or still has him when he is caught must be put to
death” ( Exodus 21:16 ). Similarly, in the New Testament, slave-traders
are listed among those who are “ungodly and sinful” and are in the
same category as those who kill their fathers or mothers, murderers,
adulterers and perverts, and liars and perjurers ( 1 Timothy 1:8–10 ).

Another crucial point is that the purpose of the Bible is to point the way
to salvation, not to instantly reform society.

The Bible often approaches issues
from the inside out. If a person experiences the love, mercy, and grace
of God by receiving His salvation, God will reform his soul, changing the
way he thinks and acts.

A person who has experienced God’s gift of
salvation and freedom from the slavery of sin, as God reforms his soul,
will realize that enslaving another human being is wrong. He will see,
with Paul, that a slave can be “a brother in the Lord” ( Philemon 1:16 ). other examples include;

Galatians 3:28p
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond(slave) nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 12:13:"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond(slave) or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."

Colossians 3:11:"Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond(slave) nor free: but Christ is all, and in all."

A person who has truly experienced God’s grace will in turn be gracious
towards others.
That would be the Bible’s prescription for ending slavery.

Shalom.

unlike the quran, don't forget slavery in biblical times is different from the 7th century arab slavery Mohammed practised..biblical slavery Was recorded 4000 years ago, that is over 2000 years before Jesus while Mohammed was born Just in the 7th century (600AD)..let's look at some quran and hadith verses regarding slavery. ..

Qur'an (23:5-6)- "..who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess..." This verse permits the slave-owner to have sex with his slaves.

Qur'an (4:24)- "And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess." Even sex with married slaves is permissible.
Qur'an (8:69)- "But (now) enjoy what ye took in war, lawful and good" A reference to war booty, of which slaves were a part. The Muslim slave master may enjoy his "catch" because (according to verse 71) "Allah gave you mastery over them."

Bukhari (41.598)- Slaves are property. They cannot be freed if an owner has outstanding debt, but can be used to pay off the debt.

Bukhari (62:137)- An account of women taken as slaves in battle by Muhammad's men after their husbands and fathers were killed. The woman were raped with Muhammad's approval.

Bukhari (34:432)- Another account of females taken captive and raped with Muhammad's approval. In this case it is evident that the Muslims intend on selling the women after raping them because they are concerned about devaluing their price by impregnating them. Muhammad is asked about coitus interruptus.

Bukhari (47.765)- A woman is rebuked by Muhammad for freeing a slave girl. The prophet tells her that she would have gotten a greater heavenly reward by giving her to a relative (as a slave).
Bukhari (34:351)- Muhammad sells a slave for money. He was thus a slave trader.

Muslim 3901- Muhammad trades away two black slaves for one Muslim slave.
Muslim 4112- A man freed six slaves on the event of his death, but Muhammad reversed the emancipation and kept four in slavery to himself. He cast lots to determine which two to free.

Bukhari (47:743)- Muhammad's own pulpit - from which he preached Islam - was built with slave labor on his command.

If you know slavery is bad, how come you accept someone who had slaves, traded slaves and did all sorts of immoral things with them as your prophet from God? My bible tells me you can tell a genuine prophet of God by the fruits they bear, these certainly are not good fruits expected of a genuine prophet of God.

Loooolll...that's the dumbest defense I've seen for a long time now.

Okk, let me pretend that you are really ignorant of words written in the bible and educate you a bit.

Colossians 3.22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;

Ephesians 6.5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

Colossians 3:22 New International Version (NIV)

22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

Servant; slave; same thing: its just in the version of the bible you read.

So, you applaud Christians (referring to the West) for ending the modern slavery, but you failed to ask yourself this question: Who were the main institutors of such slavery in the in the first place??

Then you claim that bible teaches that slave owners should be kind and gentle to their slaves? Not exactly. I will help you with those bible quotes that you forgot to post... You're welcome

Exodus 21: 20-21 (RSV) “When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be punished; for the slave is his money.”

- Not only does the Bible explicitly allow beating your slaves, it allows you to beat them to death, just as long as the slave does not immediately expire from the beating but lingers for a few days before dying.

Timothy 6: 1-2 “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit.”

-In this bible quote, dishonor towards your master as a slave is equated to blasphemy, as if the master is god himself!

1 Peter 2:18
"Slaves, in reverent fear of God, submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh."

Leviticus 25:44-46 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

-Imagine that! From those 2 quotes, not only is the slave supposed to obey the master, including harsh masters; the slave can also belong to the master FOREVER!!

Exodus 21: 7
"If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do"

-Now that is even special... A father is permitted to sell his own daughter!!

Contrary to your claim, Islam was the first religion to address slavery as a social problem. Since slavery was deeply entrenched in the society, it was not possible to abolish it at once but Islam put strategies in place for its gradual erosion, just like it treated other social problems. With respect to granting slave owners permission to have relations with slaves, this allowed for slaves to gain their freedom by getting pregnant for their masters, according to the law created to protect slaves and gradually destroy slavery. Children that were born under this circumstance automatically became free along with their mothers and they enjoyed the same right as other children, unlike in the Jewish tradition where children of slave women were treated differently from children of free women. In reality, therefore, the permission granted for having relations with slave women was one among the many unique steps taken by Islam in practically eradicating slavery.

Quran 2:177 "It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards East or West; but it is righteousness to believe in God and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him (Allah), for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves;...."

Quran 24:33 "Let those who find not the wherewithal for marriage keep themselves chaste, until God gives them means out of His grace. And if any of your slaves ask for a deed in writing (to enable them to earn their freedom for a certain sum), give them such a deed if ye know any good in them: yea, give them something yourselves out of the means which God has given to you. But force not your maids to prostitution when they desire chastity, in order that ye may make a gain in the goods of this life. But if anyone compels them, yet, after such compulsion, is God, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (to them),"

Quran 90: 8-20 "8] Have We not made for him two eyes 9) A tongue, and two lips 10) And shown him the two paths [of good and evil]? 11) Yet he has not embarked upon the uphill task 12) And what will show you what is the uphill task 13) [It is] the freeing of a slave 14) Or feeding [the needy] on a day of starvation 15) Or an orphan among relatives 16) Or a needy man in desolation 17) While being one of those who have faith and who enjoin one another to patience, and enjoin one another to compassion 18) They are the People of the Right Hand 19) But those who defy Our signs, they are the People of the Left Hand 20) [Imposed] upon them will be fire closed in"

Reccommendation: Read and comply with this quote of the bible... Luke 6:42

"How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Shalom!!

Luke 6:42
How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Shalom!!

Apparently u didn't read the original post..read it again.

So u do agree that sahih muslim and bukhari are nonsense fabrications of the deeds of Mohammed including his alleged splitting of the moon "miracle"..and camel pass cure etc..remember these are the 2 best hadiths. .

Are these fabrications and do u reject it?

Loooolll...that's the dumbest defense I've seen for a long time now.

Okk, let me pretend that you are really ignorant of words written in the bible and educate you a bit.

Colossians 3.22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;

Ephesians 6.5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

Colossians 3:22 New International Version (NIV)

22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

Servant; slave; same thing: its just in the version of the bible you read.
hahahahaha totally hammered... nothing to defend again cheesy

quote it

let me just give you one grin

However, you may purchase male or
female slaves from among the
foreigners who live among you. You
may also purchase the children of
such resident foreigners, including
those who have been born in your
land. You may treat them as your
property, passing them on to your
children as a permanent inheritance.
You may treat your slaves like this, but
the people of Israel, your relatives,
must never be treated this way.
(Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

As always he turns to insults to defend his faith. .

I actually ignore him these days since he has shown to be childish and rude in conversations.

Now the dude has run-off! You will meet him in another thread doing what he knows how to do best; when you present hard facts like you just did now, he will run-off only to show again in another thread and the cycle continues.

I'm surprised he hasn't resorted to insults yet like this dude below:

PastorKun:

And what does this your DAFT analogy prove I am even more amazed that some equally dumb people liked your post.

Lol I amnt. Slavery is bad. But it happened. Get over it?

Don't mind her. It's that crazy girl Ifeann that is now parading herself as parisbookaddict. She twists words around, justifies actions in the bible and criticizes the Quran for exactly the same thing! Whenever you face her with facts, she ignores it but goes on blabbing about the delusions in her head.
