hakimi1974: How does that look like an MP5K to you, bros? That particular gun is supposed to be much skinnier than this. Also look at the magazine in the picture. It's not a 9mm thing and instead seems to have rifle/carbine rounds. That said, an MP5K with a hundred round Beta C mag is something I wish Santa would get me. |

[quote author=GabrielYulaw post=121912301] How does that look like an MP5K to you, bros? That particular gun is supposed to be much skinnier than this. Also look at the magazine in the picture. It's not a 9mm thing and instead seems to have rifle/carbine rounds. That said, an MP5K with a hundred round Beta C mag is something I wish Santa would get me.[/quote It seems like you have a good eye for firearms! Indeed, the gun in the picture may not be an accurate representation of an MP5K as it appears to have a different magazine and overall size. However, I understand your enthusiasm for a customized MP5K with a Beta C mag, which can hold up to 100 rounds. Keep in mind that firearms ownership and customization should be approached with the utmost responsibility and safety. |

slimthugchimee2: Same. Choppers are always over Enugu. Didn't know that the NAF had a training wing at the airport there. |

bidexiii: Who can explain why the NAF does not use autogyros. They are far cheaper than helicopters to run, can use automotive fuel and can easily be manufactured here. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by bidexiii: 9:04pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
GabrielYulaw: autogyros and helicopters are two different platforms entirely. If you're training pilots for rotary wing platforms then you must use at least an helicopter to start with. Do you know helicopters are more difficult platforms to fly |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by GabrielYulaw(m): 11:35pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
bidexiii: They are kinda different in that autogyros cannot take off vertically unless they are specially modified for that. But my point is that autogyros are incredibly cheapto buy and maintain and very easy to fly in relation to choppers and they can take off in less than 100 meters. Plus they can be built or assembled in any decent mechanical workshop. So, if the armed forces want lots of airborne assets, they should at least take a good look at autogyros. |

GabrielYulaw:GA airplanes are always a better option than Autogyros. In reality the Autogyro is a pointless confusion. It's only major advantage is the STO capability. Otherwise it sacrifices the utility of a helicopter for costs and still is not cheaper than some GA planes. Runways are only built once. The Cessna 172 takes about 250m to take off so no major advantage IMO. Just a 150m difference. Meanwhile there are much more GA planes you can assemble in workshops way easier than Autogyros. China uses them anyway. It could be useful for low speed patrol operations or the usual jollyrides. 1 Like |

Faithful007: The major cost component of the autogyro is its engine. You can buy or build the simpler ones for $10,000 up. How many GA planes can you buy for that kind of money? And how many helicopters run on automotive gasoline like autogyros mostly do? And let's talk safety. If the main rotor of a chopper fails, you must successfully autorotate or your ass is toast. In autogyros, the main rotor is free spinning and even if the engine fails, gliding to a landing should be easy. I would just say that we better agree to disagree. And do check out the Just Aircraft Superstol and the Super Petrel if you are interested in STOL aircraft. |

GabrielYulaw:Gyrocopters for 10k? Where is the kit sold? A Gyrocopter is just a blend of an helicopter and an aircraft. It doesn't outdo both in whatever metric. A GA aircraft will glide better than a Gyrocopter. 1 Like |

Odunayaw: I'm saying that we need a lot of air assets. Not just the NA. but the police and other security agencies. Sure, helicopters are good, but they are also expensive to run and maintain. And the training to fly one is hard and expensive. Contrast that with autogyro, which don't require a great deal of maintenance and can be modified at will and fueled with common gasoline. Boosting their use here just makes a great deal of economic sense to me. Like for the cost of a single EC-135 we could get 20 to 30 autogyros depending on their sophistication. 1 Like |
