NIGERIAN AIR FORCE SET TO COMMEMORATE ITS 60 YEARS OF EXISTENCE
Plans are underway by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to mark its 60 years of existence and steadfast service in the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity. The commemorative event with the theme, ‘Nigerian Air Force at 60: Leveraging Strategic Partnerships in Aerospace Innovations for Regional Security,’ is lined up with series of activities to commence from 14-25 May 2024. The high point of the celebration includes a 2-day International Conference and Exhibition, to be held alongside the Third Edition of the African Air Forces Forum, from 23-24 May 2024 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Here, Chiefs of Air Staff from other countries, prominent figures in the defence, aviation and aerospace industries, as well as other stakeholders are expected to grace the occasion to foster dialogue and cooperation towards advancing aviation capabilities across the continent. The pinnacle of the Anniversary celebrations will then culminate into the Ceremonial Parade and Aerial Display to be held at the NAF Base, Kaduna, on 25 May 2024. The finale will also pay special tribute to NAF’s fallen heroes, surviving veterans, as well as its unwavering dedication to serving the nation. In addition to the main events, an array of engaging activities awaits attendees, including a riveting Research & Development competition, medical outreaches, exhilarating combat sports competition, and a flying-out parade honouring some NAF senior officers who retired recently.
It is important to state here that in efforts at ensuring the events meet international standards, while also saving cost, the NAF is collaborating with some esteemed partners and sponsors, both locally and internationally. The support of these partners and sponsors, no doubt, underscores a shared commitment to honouring NAF's legacy and shaping a brighter future for the defence and aviation industry in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
As the NAF embarks on this landmark celebration, the nation and the global community are invited to join in commemorating 60 years of unwavering dedication, perseverance and valour in service to the Nigerian people.

Bruhhh that is just too extreme, the suggestion you’ve made. The army going there with a vengeful mindset will not change anything. Rather it might even make people hate the army the more if they go after innocents. I may not be in the position to say how the army should respond to issues like this cause it has to do with loss of personnel life but there is something called non kinetic approach to security.

AIR POWER; INDISPENSABLE COMPONENT OF MODERN WARFARE - GENERAL SHAIBU

The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Maj Gen W Shaibu, has described air power as an indispensable component of modern warfare. He made the assertion, when the @NigAirForce Commanding (AOC) Tactical Air Command (TAC) Air Vice Marshal (AVM) FO Edosa paid him a courtesy visit at Headquarters Theatre Command, Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, today 8 April 2024.

Gen Shaibu who acknowledged the successes recorded in the ongoing onslaught against the remnants of terrorists in the theatre of operations, attributed it to the tremendous support of the air component. He noted that the feat achieved was a testament to collaboration and called for continued support to enhance operational effectiveness and success. He said if sustained, it would deny the terrorists the ability to bring fire to bear, as well as deny them freedom of action.

Speaking further, Gen Waidi said the Air Component of OPHK had conducted intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as air strikes in the terrorists' enclaves across the theatre, a development which he said had degraded and weakened their capabilities. He thanked the AOC for the visit, assuring him of more synergy with the air component. He added that his (AOC) visit to the Theatre, was a boost to the operations knowing what the Theatre stood to benefit.

Stating his purpose of visit earlier, the AOC AVM FO Edosa said he was in Maiduguri on an operational visit to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) formations to assess their level of readiness in support of the joint efforts of OPHK and to see how personnel of the NAF were fearing. While emphasising the significance of jointness in operations, AVM Edosa said "We must pursue jointness if we must achieve operational end state". He added that the sum of the whole was greater than individual efforts.

AVM Edosa who congratulated the Theatre Commander for his appointment and thanked him for the reception, assured him of the air component's continued support and collaboration towards the success of the operation. He equally pledged to resolve the areas of challenges presented by the Theatre Commander.

The visit featured a presentation quarter guard, signing of the visitor's book, presentation memento and group photographs.

A WEEKEND OF SUCCESSFUL AIR STRIKES AT YARTSAMIYA IN KATSINA STATE AND GRAZAH IN BORNO STATE

The streak of successful air strikes by the Air Components of Operation Hadarin Daji and Hadin Kai continued through the weekend as terrorists were, again, denied freedom of movement aimed at targeting soft targets, especially innocent civilians. One of such strikes was carried out under Operation Hadarin Daji on 5 April 2024 at a terrorist enclave located Northwest of Yartsamiya Village in Danmusa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina state. At the location, a set of 11 armed terrorists were sighted moving towards a mountainous area. Soon after, 2 separate sets of terrorists joined the first set of terrorists, and all were observed heading towards the same direction towards the mountainous high ground. The need not to let the opportunity of neutralizing the terrorists thus became imperative. Subsequently, the terrorists were effectively engaged by NAF aircraft in several passes with several neutralized and the few survivors scampering in disarray.

Air strikes by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai in the early hours of 6 April 2024 at Grazah in Gwoza LGA of Borno State also yielded the requisite outcome. Previous intelligence had revealed that Grazah, previously known as a hideout for terrorists, was converted into a logistics storage hub and an area for fabricating their Improvised Explosive Devices and other ammunition. Recent intelligence also revealed significant terrorists’ activities consistent with terrorists’ behaviour around some makeshift structures at the location. Consequently, air interdiction was conducted at the location with Battle Damage Assessment footages and feedback received revealing several terrorists neutralized.

These operations, carried out deep into terrorists’ enclaves, will continue as these areas are believed to aid their recruitment, training and nurturing of potential terrorists. Attacking their logistics hubs also help in reducing their ability to carry out massive attacks, especially on innocent civilians and troop’s location. The provision of timely information/intelligence by the populace has also been key to the successes recorded and would remain so if sustained.

TERRORISTS ELIMINATED AT ZURMI, GUSAU AND MARADUN LGAs IN ZAMFARA STATE

Following carefully conducted observation missions over the Camps of terrorist kingpins, Abdullahi Nasanda in Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA) and Mallam Tukur’s camp in Gusau LGA of Zamfara State, air strikes by the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji on 10 April 2024, have led to the elimination of several terrorists and their structures.

Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission conducted on Abdullahi Nasanda’s Camp had revealed terrorists’ activities around some huts and thatched roof structures. Some of their motorcycles were also observed hidden on trees. Having established that their activities were consistent with terrorists’ modes of operation, the location was struck by multiple aircraft passes, thereby neutralizing several terrorists. Similar ISR missions were conducted at Mallam Tukur Camp, where terrorists’ activities were also observed. Air strikes conducted on the Camp neutralized several terrorists and showed several structures set ablaze and destroyed.

Air strikes were also extended to Kani kawa in Maradun town, under Maradun LGA of Zamfara State, where terrorists, their enclaves and equipment were attacked and destroyed.
