The loss at Niger state was very hard to take, this one at Delta is just too much. The barbarism of the act!

Brazil and Turkey for example have been suppliers to NA.

If NA can go as far as South Korea to buy APCs I think NA just doesn't prioritise IFVs as we want

Apart from the second hand IFVs bought from Jordan, I don't see any other IFVs NA has purchased.

NA had a good opportunity to get IFVs among the Type 89s they got in bulk. When I saw that it was inducted just like that I had to rethink what I understood about NA doctrine.

Even the FV107 we got is a recon vehicle for Armoured Corps but yeah I think we use it in the IFV role

They must have run into a random armed group somewhere in the Delta. I just hope they don't out of revenge do stuff that could attract foreign attention.

The irrational exuberance of the young!
You'll learn, hopefully.
In the meantime, some homework fit for a pre-teen:
1) how would Houthis based in Yemen disrupt cables on the west coast/Atlantic of Africa?
2) seeing as they "cut all internet cables in Africa", how on earth are we still reading and responding to your over-eager higher primary school regurgitation?
Feel free to consult maps and other materials to help you along. grin grin grin

I'm not referring to the recon vehicle.

I'm talking about this one with a 30mm. It's not clear the number NA bought, but I hope they got them in considerable numbers.

I remember when we used to have 800 soldiers carry out tactical withdrawals during the dark days of BH. I mean, 2 IFVs would have stopped that embarrassment.

Yes, I meant this one. It is a brother to the Scorpion light tank. Its original role would be a recce vehicle.

It doesn't carry troops and it has thin aluminium armour so it's not an Infantry Fighting Vehicle in its strict sense.

In those early days of BH, heck even from ECOMOG days it had been evident NA needed something that could carry soldiers into the heat of battle and carry superior firepower but somehow they improvised with the Shilka, something that was by chance used in direct fire role and impressed.

So even this FV107 is proof that NA recognises firepower but it is not balanced with protected mobility for a Mech Infantry.

Mehnn and unfortunately for me, most of my buddies who are now officers are in the Air force or Navy so I have found no place to cater for my inquisitiveness.

Frustrating of it all is that I could have been one myself.

Cc: Captainstephen can you help us out?

The AH-1Z is a significantly better aircraft than the MI-35M.

As it is, what we need now is to follow up this purchase with at least a squadron of F-16V fighter jets.

F-16V…..?? Wow you want us to be at the mercy of the US the more. I rather we get a squadron of the JF-17 block 3 fighter.
24x M346FAs, 12x JF-17 block 3s. We are good to go for the moment. Then maybe during the 2030s we can shift focus on semi stealth and stealth aircraft’s. The world is changing you know.

Were NPF a proactive agency with robust intelligence gathering would they not have nipped things in the bud?

It's unfortunate that the military is doing the job of police. I gave situation were police can't enter some communities without soldiers escort.
The police needs to be rebuilt asap

This thing has been said again and again. Looking at how NA rebirthed itself from the failures of the early stage of the BH insurgency should be a cue to the police that it can be done.

AIR STRIKES DESTROY TERRORISTS’ LOGISTICS STORAGE IN PALELE, NIGER STATE

Air strikes by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft under Operation WHIRL PUNCH (OPWP) have continued to decimate terrorists and their logistics, especially in the Northwest and North Central regions of Nigeria. One of such successes was recorded on 15 March 2024 when strikes by NAF aircraft successfully targeted and destroyed terrorists’ logistics storage situated in Palele near Shiroro in Niger State.

Acting on credible intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists’ weapons cache East of Palele, authorization was obtained to deploy air assets to neutralize the threat. The operation, which was executed with speed and precision, resulted in significant damage to the target area, including a secondary explosion confirming the destruction of arms and ammunition. The weapons are believed to be affiliated to a particular terrorist’s kingpin who is on the Most Wanted Lists of terrorists. These strikes have no doubt degraded the capabilities of terrorist elements operating in the region to attack innocent civilians, especially in Kaduna and Niger States.

The NAF, along with other surface forces, will continue to maintain dominance over areas on concern through enhanced situational awareness, continuous patrols, and targeted interdiction of terrorists’ safe havens. The need for support and information, especially from the general public on the activities of these terrorists and other criminal elements, is therefore critical to the success of ongoing operations.

FG lists Tukur Mamu, Kaduna-based publisher, among ’15 terrorism financiers’

The federal government has reportedly named Tukur Mamu, publisher of Desert Herald, as one of the suspects involved in terrorism financing.
Mamu was listed among 15 entities, including nine individuals and six Bureau De Change (BDC) operators and firms, according to Punch.
Punch cited a document from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) titled “Designation of Individuals and Entities for March 18, 2024”.
According to the document, the Nigeria Sanctions Committee met on March 18 where the named entities were recommended for sanctions following their involvement in terrorism financing.

The NFIU said Mamu “participated in the financing of terrorism by receiving and delivering ransom payments, over the sum of $200,000, in support of ISWAP terrorists for the release of hostages of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack”.
Mamu is currently being tried by the federal government for allegedly aiding the terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train in March 2022.
After he was arrested in 2022, the government said it had found $300,000 in his possession.

The money was tagged as “terrorist funds”.
Mamu who is a media aide to Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic cleric, has also been accused of exchanging voice notes relating to the Abuja-Kaduna train hostages with one Baba Adamu, a Boko Haram spokesperson.
The publisher has denied any allegiance to terrorists.
The NFIU said one of the terrorism financiers is “the suspected attacker of the St. Francis Catholic Church Owo, Ondo State on June 5, 2022 and the Kuje Correctional Center, Abuja on July 5, 2022″
