GeneralQuamdeen:
Let us bring ourselves back to when we are still a fresher in the citadel we study. We get confused about somethings, it is very fustrating at that moment but as times goes we understand how things work. The cool thing is that we have that kind of happy feeling to finally understand how things work and we feel good to see newbies struggling to know it.
That same thing happens to Nairaland new members too and the below listed are the top 7 things they find confusing.
1. How To Comment: This is one problem I faced when i registered to Nairaland. When freshers read an interesting topic mostly on front page, they find it difficult to comment. Why? Because the dont know how to comment. There is an interference with the knowledge they have on facebook. They expect to see a comment button and they get frustrated when they didnt find any. When all what they should do is click the reply button.
2. How to Create A New Topic: After when a new Nairalander successfully find a way to know how to comment. He feels good and happy but there will be a time when he will feel the need to create his own topic too. Most Nairaland members dont know how to do that. For those that have not figure it out yet. Visit the home page, click on the section suitable for the type of topic you want to create, scroll down a little bit you will see where create new topic is written in bracket. Click on it and you are good to go.
3. How Topics Make Front Page: New Nairalanders feels good to know how to create a new topic. They will notice one day that they are not getting much comments as they used to see in other threads, that is when they know that there topic will need to hit the front page to get that. There are some people called Moderators, and Supermods, they are also one of us, there job is to pick out a topic that can be of interest to other people too and put it on front page. They have other basis of selecting a topic too but that is known to them only, because attimes, you will see a quack thread that is not interesting as yours hit FP. Dont say any stupid thing when you are frustrated about it, coz Mods like Lalasticlala or Seun fit ban you
4. How To Chat: Trust me, Most New Nairaland think there is a platform for instant messaging on Nairaland. For where? You wont find the Message button you are looking for here; the only way you can have a private information or message with a Nairalander is through their E-mail. Click on the profile of the Nairalander you are following and follows you, stroll down, click on the send an Email to this member writtem in bracket. You are good to go. Note: You will need to check your Email for any replies (the one you registered with)
5. How To Use The Home Page Button: Most new nairalanders dont know how to use the homepage button but one way or the other they get to know it later. Let me try to explain it down here
i. Edit Profile: This allows you to edit your profile.
ii. SH: This means 'Shared With Me'. This notifies you of the posts shared by other members you are following.
iii. FT This means 'Followed Topics'. This notifies you of new posts in topics you are following. Note that you automatically follows the topics you created yourself.
iv. FB: This means 'Follow Boards'. This notifies you of new topics created in the board you are following. How to follow boards: In the homepage, click on any section you will like to follow, then click on follow board.
v. L&S: This means 'Likes and Shares'. This notifies you of the likes and shares you get on your post.
vi. MT: Meaning 'Mentions'. This notifies you of quotes or replies to your posts. It also notifies you when your username is mentioned my other members. It also notifies you when other members calls for your attention i.e CC
vii. FG: meaning 'Following'. This notifies you of new post made by members you are following.
viii. FS: Meaning 'Followers'. This notifies you of new members following you.
ix. Trending: This is where you can view topics gaining most comments or posts.
x. Recent: This is where you can see recents posts made by other nairalanders
xi. New This is where you can see New topics created by members in all sections.
6. How to Use other Buttons: New nairalanders find it difficult to use buttons like Quote, Report, Like and Share
Quote: This is used to reply a post made by other members in a thread
Report: This is used to report to the admin if any member made a post that violates the rules.
Like: This is used to like post made by other members.
Share: This is used to share posts made by members to members following you.
7. How To Know The Online Members: Dont look for this for too long, there is no notification to see the online members. You can only know when they make a post.
Feel free to add things yours
