Thanks Guys. I did not know this was possible. Do you mean the Cornice underneath the PVC or vice versa? @Dominion, do you have any sample of this mix of PVC and Cornice size? I'd like to see how it comes out. Thanks again. mufutau55: |
Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by brabus(m): 11:38pm On Jan 24, 2016 |
befto: Just think of a standard POP minus the flat surface which is replaced with PVC ceiling. That's what we're talking about. |
Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by mufutau55(m): 11:40pm On Jan 24, 2016 |
befto: NO vice-versa... PVC will go on top as ceilings and POP cornice will go round it underneath. Hajji M. |
Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by befto: 11:44pm On Jan 24, 2016 |
Got you now. so its more or less the edges that will have the POP cornice and the middle will be the PVC? mufutau55: |

Haji and Brabus. Thanks alot. I will definitely explore the option and see what comes out of it. It's just so confusing having all these options when trying to balance out costs versus returns. Thanks guys. Make person go sleep now. Good night. mufutau55: |

mexxy1:thanks for the info sir... then it is the same as POP. are they sold in already made size like normal ceiling board or they done just the POP is done? can they also be use in kitchens? thanks. |

Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by mexxy1(m): 2:27pm On Jan 25, 2016 |
johnson232: They are already cut in sizes of 595mmX595mmX8mm for the Gypsium ceiling which is waterproof on the side facing the room with an Aluminium foil covering the side to face the roof while the purely POP type (which is more expensive than the other) comes in size 595mmX595mmX20mm. They usually come in packs of eight. For installation in the kitchen, yes, you can. They can be installed anywhere but I won't advice installing outside like balcony or around the outer edges of the house due to the fact that you can easily remove them and replace yourself so not safe outside to prevent intruders. Aesthetically, they are very nice as you have different design options to choose from. I did a test of the POP type and they hold water very well without scattering (poured water severally on one board but, it only absorbed it but didn't drip so I believe they can hold a while if you have roof leakage- the POP type I mean here). Also tried burning it but it didn't so, it is not flammable which is another plus. I hope these helped? Thanks for the kind words. 1 Like |

Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by mexxy1(m): 3:53pm On Jan 25, 2016 |
johnson232: Last time I bought the 8mm type (with aluminium and waterproof covering), it was #2,500/carton of 8pcs excluding grids. Can't find the receipt for the POP type. If I do I'll tell you. Thanks. |
Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by johnson232: 4:36pm On Jan 25, 2016 |
mexxy1:thanks alot my brother. but both the aluminium and pop type are referred to as gypsium ceiling. |
Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by mexxy1(m): 5:17pm On Jan 25, 2016 |
johnson232: There's no aluminium type. One has Aluminium foil and waterproof covering while the other is purely POP with nothing wrapping it. Both are referred to as Gypsium ceiling but, if you ask for POP type that's when you get that otherwise, you get to be shown the other. They are both okay but the POP type is more expensive. I hope you get me now? 1 Like |

Do you know how sqm 8 pieces will cover? I need to cover an area of about 300 sqm. Thank you mexxy1: |
Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by mexxy1(m): 11:47pm On Jan 25, 2016 |
befto: A sqm is about 3pcs or so. It's written on the carton how many sqm 8pcs covers. I think 2.44sqm per carton if I'm correct. |

I am currently building on a swampy land and the right way to go about building the fence if confusing to me as the other people building there are moulding the councrete directly on the swampy Land, but I dont think that is the right way to do it, Currently I digged the swamp a little and starting to sand fill so as to pour the mould the concrete for the fence on the filled ground instead of erecting it directly on the swampy land Please is this a right way of doing it? Also should I do Blinding first or just do a Mat Concrete directly on the sand filled ground? Thanks. PS Also, any body supplying Gravel, Iron, Sand here, Kindly paste your last price.

Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by JerryCCCLtd: 8:59pm On Jan 29, 2016 |
incogni2o: Sir, you may need another approach to your work I will suggest. Digging or excavating the trench is the right thing to do, but sandfilling it isn't professional and would make your foundation or fence fail at the long run as a result of settlement which may occur from the sand you used in the filling. Excavate the trench to a level where you get a hard strata, blind, then place your mat. The blinding is to give your mat a bottom cover and to avoid corrosion of the steel reinforcement. You may have to keep draining the water in the trench as you are working in order for your concrete not to be affected by the chemical properties of such water present in the environment in case of salt water or water that contains iron or other chemicals Be mindful of your mix also. Thanks, Really Appreciate, So you suggest that I do the mat concrete directly on the bare ground instead of doing the MAT concrete on the sand filled digged tenches? JerryCCCLtd: |
Re: Ask All Your Questions On Building Foundations/structural Issues -expert by opalu: 3:37pm On Jan 30, 2016 |
incogni2o: Using Sand to form a bed before doing the 'mat' concrete is also good depending on the load-bearing nature of the soil amongst other considerations. For instance if the sand layer underneath is shallow and you have excavated down, you will need to make it up or else whatever you build on it no matter how strong the concrete is, will settle. Let me explain further. I was called to check a site that had similar issue. The soil strata which is expected to bear the house is like 2.5m down Under the ground. Then some Engineer guy tells the owner to dig say 2.5m deep foundation. His asset ion is that the deeper a foundation is the better. (But engineering does not have a gbogbonishe formula that solves all issues. That is why competent professionals analyse each peculiar problem on its own merits.) Therefore resting the end of the pad foundation was now resting on the soil that couldn't carry load. If you will fill sand then you must compact the sand so that no settlement issues arise. It is better than directly on excavated bare ground. This does not mean that the professional advice of our brother JerryCCC won't work, it will work just that you have to consider the peculiarity of your own site 1 Like |

Good day. Thanks for all the professional building advice. I am about to commence the building of my factory on a waterlogged land in Lagos. We are set to blind then place mats before pouring the concrete. The challenge is that my foundation needs to be higher than the regular 1200mm concrete foundation, so my builder has advised that we make the concrete height -900mm, then compensate by adding 3coaches of blocks on top before the oversite concrete. Is this safe and is it suitable for a waterlogged area? Your advice is urgently required. Thanks. |
