Hi guys,
My 2001 toyota camry. Auto, 2.2cc 4 cylinder. Displayed this code on scanning. I noticed that the engine when idling was rougher than normal especially when the gears were engaged.

The codes were P0402 and P0401.
Excessive exhaust gas recirculation and insufficient exhaust gas recirculation.

- Faulty EGR volume control valve
- EGR solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- EGR solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty EGR temperature sensor and circuit

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor EGR (DPFE). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0401 code means that OBD detected an insufficient amount of EGR.

gazzuz, what do u mean by "lagos or ph". R u in ph nd u didn't let me kn? My avalon is waiting for u o. Beginning to hear some annoying suspension noise.

Thanks Gazzuzz, am currently not in either at the moment though. Will check for leaks and ask around for replacement parts.
