good thinking . But many would have given it innocently and never came back to tell the tale of what happened . But still u were a very very easy target, they could have arranged a meeting for u in a place u will feel secured before striking . U are a very lucky man.

And the worst part of it , the idiot fit dey here dey read dis thread, my advice is let the client pay into your account first for commitment before going to the site for measurement or quotes, go with either 2 or 3 people and let them hang around while u go and meet the client, always gather enough details about the customer before involving in anything with a client , always keep in touch with your families and friends , I knew how I handled my recent client whose location was far from mine and he gave all details of his even before I agree to take the next move with him, always take your time to gather enough info before going to meet your client . May God protect us, Let's be more conscious and alert. God bless Nairaland and bless Seun

I raised an issue on nairaland about some years back ,seun and his mods didn't understand why I raised the matter then and it was on members been able to delete their moniker and all data. I said then that nairaland has kidnappers, hired killers ,murderers, thieves, rapists and also good ppl as members who are members here even majority of our politicians are nl members ,that seun should allow ppl to delete their membership, then he didn't agree but thank God that he has now. Yesterday I was going through a thread and ppl were threatening each other and something told me that a time will come ppl will be killing themselves due to comments. the point of this is to warn everyone on nl to be very very careful your personal information which u post on any social media.Don't post sensitive personal information about urself that can easily single u out for attack. Most of the victims of this so called owerri man must have posted their numbers and name on this site at one time or the other . Try to censor the things u post. May God help us all .

Oga, please advice a business man who finds nairaland a good market, on how to sell his product and/or services without any contact details.

You need to be realistic when discussing issues.

But seriously guys I have been thinking about opening a private investigation agency here in Nigeria because none exists and our police units seem not to either know what they are doing or they are overwhelmed or just plain lazy.

What do you think? Will it work down here? I read about criminal activities everywhere on NL and ita all a cry for help as far as I am concerned. What do u think?

Sometimes the news we hear here can be quite scary and appalling at d same time. I wish I was in owerri and ds guy calls me.

PLEASE if you receive call from this same guy just play along and inform the police or you can just coordinate some smart guys in your area not less than 4guys. He seems easy to track down and besides he is not smart at all.

For as many that has paid into his account please drop the account name here for further profiling of the scammer.
Drop all other relevant info here for some of us that might be interested in nabbing and putting a stop to this rubbish.

I stated it categorically clear in my post that ppl should be very careful about posting“ sensitive personal information” on social media like nairaland. Some ppl go as far as posting their home address here on nairaland ,some ppl use their home as an office and yet post it here,I won't disclose much here about many cases with the police about missing ppl who got calls for supposed business meetings and never came back. Post business name, phone num and office contact address, never meet new business ppl alone, always meet in an open place if possible near law enforcement agents office or ppl . That was what I meant. Many ppl at times even post their pictures on the signatures with their phone numbers so that ppl will trust them . Ok oooo , let's just pray that ppl won't learn from our own downfall or experiences .

Evil is prevailing exceedingly in the country.
Scams are becoming more elaborate every day.
I can maybe understand a scam to rip people off, but to kidnap someone to use their ATM cards.......thats on a whole other level.

This world is becoming too dangerous. I've met wonderful people via this forum, I've done business with very honest people and we still communicate.

Even two of my colleagues in office came in through a one on one via this forum.

In all we just have to be careful and seek God's guidance at all time.

So.. I got a call a while ago from one Mr David and this conversation transpired between us.

Mr David: Hello, is this Dominion?

Me: That's correct.

Mr David: I'm David, I got your contact details on Nairaland and I love your jobs. I have a project in Owerri and I'm hoping if you will be available to work for me too.

Me: That shouldn't be a problem Sir. Kindly send the drawings so as to give quote.

Mr David: The problem is that we didn't eventually follow the initial plan for we did a lot of amendments. You will have to take the trip to take your measurements and advice on what other things you can do for me.

Me: That's alright Sir. When do you want me to come around?

Mr David: They just started the roofing. I'll contact you again whenever I want you to come and send you the site supervisor's number because I wouldn't be in town.

Me: That's alright

Like I always do, I searched for the number(08154806413) on Truecaller immediately he dropped and the result was 'Patrick'. Searched on Nairaland, no match found. Eventually stored his number with Mr DavidPatrick Owerri NL grin

Fast forward to 2days ago. I was in Jos about to take a trip to Porthacourt to go measure and quote for a project when Mr David called again.

Mr David: Hello Dominion

Me: Good evening Sir.

Mr David: Will you be able to come around tomorrow? I need you to check the project and give a quote for we are on a fast track.

Me: Tomorrow is perfect Sir. I will be in Porthacourt, coming to Owerri when I'm done shouldn't be a problem.

Mr David: Good. Call me when you are in town.

Me: Alright Sir.

Now I remembered what a very popular painter on Nairaland(your guess is as good as mine) told me when we met at a site few weeks ago. How he was kidnapped after honouring an invitation to quote for a project. He was escorted by 4 harmed men every night to the ATM machine till he emptied over 600k in his account before he was released! Well... His way ain't my way. Owerri project is a reality grin

It was pretty late before I was done in Porthacourt but still made the trip to Owerri. Got to Owerri around 10pm, found my way to a nearby hotel and it was a new day.

I sent Mr David a text this morning that I'm in town, he replied that I should contact the site supervisor Mr Kingsley 08143060729 so he can take me to site. I did my 'as usual' searches but this time, I got no results.

No cause for alarm. Everything still seems normal. It's a happy day after all...
pls sir how does this true caller search work

Death does not scare me sister! Everyone will die someday some way! Its all about the legacy you leave behind. Helped, comforted, blessed, invaluable to your world.

Maybe its just me but I derive joy making right what is wrong and even when I keep quiet and try to ignore, I never have rest. Often times what we are so passionate about is what God designed us to do on earth. That is my belief.

But I really dont even understand how a client can move you out of your base to a site without picking up your air fare and hotel expenses..is that how you guys do work?

Once a client calls you to inspect a site outstation, he must foot, not your bus fare, but airfare. thats the fiest indiction of seriousness from his part and hotel expenses.
atleast he must be sure of recouping all that money from you before he can embark on the task of spending that money to kindnap you.

Mine was at Badagry Lagos state. One Chukwudi kept disturbing me and insisted we meet. It was a thursday and I was foolish enough to go very early that I arrived at Aradagun, badagary not far from French Village around 8:45am, and took another bike inside. The bike man told me that the road leads to Shagamu, and kept telling me that the Shamude village im asked to come is about a mile inside. I was so stupid not to even smell a rat, but thought maybe the client was another novice sold a cheap property within the deepest part of Badagry (cause ive seen many cases like that before). The luckiest thing that happened was I didnt go with my car or they could have taken that too. I was made to sit inside a tiny golf with two men while one went to pulled out my 80k from my ATM. My watch, phones, and small laptop was taken from me. The trek I trek thgat day, I swear Jehovah witness people never trek am sad sad sad sad
Since then, I've left Nairaland property section jejele, and disregard most of the phonecalls I get from Nairaland. I wanted to warn lawyer and create a post, but the mod and I are bitter enemies and he has a knack for deleting anything I post (for reasons hes too chicken to tell nairalanders - and its well known that lawyer and his bunch of goons own the property section, ONLY their posts make frontpage, and any solid real estate guy is treated like Bokoharam threat: an issue I've raised with Seun many times, maybe he's too busy to just give this close attention). Its horrible when people trying to eek out a living are getting this kind of treatment.

For how long would one keep up using military folks as escort to seeing a client? I don't really think this is a good idea. This should be very simple if properly dealt with; DO NOT meet with people, particularly online folks in a secluded area. Best bet is meeting them in an open place, that way one could assess them and probably 'size' them.

But that is where we are in Nigeria.

Where are law enforcement agencies online, they work on those numbers provided and catch these thieves.

Too bad. More topics like this should make FP, not one cartoon topic or 10 reasons Women divorce men etc.

If you have any services to render and I call your number, you sound funny, I look for an alternative solution that is very transparent immediately.

I strongly the end part of your post should apply. I should look elsewhere the moment the person on the other end is acting suspicious. Nigeria is fast becoming a breeding ground for kidnappers.

bros , are u not a nigerian ? The cases u are reading here are about kidnapping and robbery cases , there are hundreds of such cases that happen which are never reported because the victims were killed for ritual purposes. The perpetrators of this are not into ritual or body parts sales hence they allowed their victims to go after collecting their money. The op should know that he isn't smart at all and infact he is the easiest target of all time he was only very lucky. What would have happened if the criminals actually came to his hotel room to pick him up , won't he have followed them ?? Many victims of such tricks never had the opportunity of returning talk less of talking about it.

Chilling but true.

Linda Ikeja should carry this story on her blog to warn others and alert the authorities.
