Celebrities / Nigerian Musicians, Bloggers And The GOLD Album Saga by 247NewsUpdateNG: 5:50pm On Jul 27, 2016
In the last decade, the Nigerian entertainment industry, as an entity, has experienced very notable revolution as the delve into digitalization has made the world a global village. The revolution has affected its music arm more though. Lots of advantages and disadvantages has hit this arm more as it has partially turned its back on 'analogous' methods and edged more towards digital platforms.

Prior to the embrace of digitalization, production, marketing and sales of albums, and singles alike, were done in a more strenuous fashion. First, an artiste purchased a beat, went into a studio recording booth, recorded verses, then the producer did the mixing and then the song was burned into CDs. Then, a marketer was contacted and the CDs were passed on to distributors who took them to various retailers around the country. Before this is done, prices would have been fixed between the artiste(s), producer(s) and marketer(s). This method was quite lucrative when it was at its best.

However, as good things never last forever, the issue of CD piracy rolled in, like a tsunami on an island, and heavily cut the profits gotten from the sales. The "Man must chop" syndrome, with which the pirates operated, took a heavy toll on the artistes as huge losses were incurred. This made artistes and marketers disheartened as only a batch or two of the CDs were able to be sold before the pirates took over the production.

When the era of musical digitalization phased in, the artistes heaved sighs of relief hoping that the issue of piracy has been nipped in the bud. This was quite so until the blackhat community of the blogosphere, and global village at large, unleashed their whips on the digital world. Beats and verses were leaked, social media accounts were hacked and works stolen, to mention but a few. Then the issue of album leakage became the issue.
When artistes put up albums for purchase on digital platforms, it is usually leaked out before they can make the funds spent in the production. This has mostly affected top notch artistes such as M.I, Ice Prince Zamani, Orezi, Wande Coal, Runtown, to mention but a few and caused top artistes to cry out.

Recently, a top notch artiste Adekunle Gold released his debut album titled "GOLD". Less than a day after its release for purchase on digital platforms, the album was seen on various blogs for free download. This disheartening act hit the artiste who went into a ranting rage on the Twitter social media platform. He asked various blogs to take down the album, to which some adhered while the rest remained adamant. The artiste even hinted that legal action was being taken against the involved blogs.

Opinions have been given and questions asked but at the end of the ramblings, statistics play a vital role in analysis.
There are over ten thousand blogs in Nigeria and more than half of them are centered in the Entertainment (Music) niche. Some of these blogs have more than one administrators. If we assume that five thousand put up the album for free and each have two or three administrators, are the funds available to hunt down over ten thousand people, scattered all over the world, because of a leaked album? I leave the answer to whoever feels like.

Free album download (which is not right except permission is given) drives massive traffic to the various blogs on which they are placed and gives the bloggers, who make their living off the blogs, revenues. So even if a thousand blackhat bloggers were arrested and prosecuted, it won't stop the rest from indulging in the act, as it is their source of revenue. Musical giants such as M.I, Ice Prince Zamani, Wande Coal, e.t.c threatened hail and brimstone when the album leakage hit them them but at the end of the day, the stories and threats died down.

Stringent solutions should be made to curb the losses and if one can give a suggestion, I would advice that total dependence on the digital or 'analog' platforms should be avoided. When releasing an album, it would be wise to release the hard copies a little earlier before the digital copies as it would help cut down the losses on both ends.

Another way to cut down digital piracy is to stop the disrespect and disregard of bloggers. Nowadays, even upcoming artistes go as far as insulting bloggers. In life, whatever one reaps is what he/she sowed. You don't expect someone who you trampled on to consider you when injustice is being meted on you. Everyone can not be Linda Ikeji, Bella Naija, TooXclusive, NaijaLoaded, and other top blogs, but it doesn't warrant disregarding and disrespecting the upcoming members of the blogosphere as they are actually the wings on which upcoming artistes soar to fame.

Romance / Social Media Platforms Where You Can Hardly Find Good Wife Material by 247NewsUpdateNG: 6:38pm On Jul 10, 2016
Below are my opinion of social media platforms where you would hardly find plenty yards of wife material:

• Instagram: Most of the ladies on this platform has filtered out their lives. Someone that is naturally black would filter her picture so much that she might be your next door neighbour and you won't know. That is asides the fact that their shapes are photoshopped and most of those that are naturally endowed do nothing but twerk and seduce others

• Snapchat: Same situation with Instagram and the worst part is that someone would see leaf and flower on their pictures/videos and think they can cook and decorate the house only to discover that they dress in Police riot gear to boil water.

• 2go: 90% of the ladies here are guys hustling for N200 airtime. 5% of the remainder are prostitutes looking for guys to patronize them. The amount of nudes on the platform would contest with even porn sites.
Then the remaining ladies' statuses read Offline since 2011.

• Nairaland: If you settle down and observe this forum, you'll give up when it comes to ladies. Not all though as there are few yards of wife material here. I won't mention names though so some people's email won't get filled up and their head would start swelling.
One of the only good characteristics about most of Nairaland ladies though is their gift of sarcasm and nice sense of humour.

Do you have any opinions on other social media platforms that should make the list?

Nairaland / General / Nigeria And The Current U.S. Police Shooting Crisis by 247NewsUpdateNG: 4:35pm On Jul 10, 2016
If the U.S. police shooting crisis occurred in Nigeria:

• APC would have blamed PDP for the shooting

• Fayose would have released a statement of how the APC government was killing PDP supporters

• Lai Mohammed would have said that the police involved were not real policemen

• Femi Adesina would have released a statement saying that the killed men were terrorists from Niger and Chad

• Freeze of Cool FM would have written up to five open letters

• MASSOB, IPOB would have said that it was their members that were killed

• Nigerian Army would have released a statement that those killed were members of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA)

• Police would have released a statement saying those killed were robbers/kidnappers who were on an operation

• Kemi Olunloyo would have accused top celebrities of sending the police to kill people for rituals

• Rotimi Amaechi would have said that those killed were APC members and Nyesom Wike was behind their assassinations

• Reno Omokri would have released an article on police impunity during the past and present administration

• The Senate would have asked for a summon of the Inspector General of Police

• Dr. Joe Oduamakin, Seun Kuti, Oby Ezekwesili, others would have created a new twitter hashtag

• Linda Ikeji's Blog, Laila's Blog, Vivian Gist, others would have published different stories

At the end of the day, nobody would know the exact truth and that's how police extra judicial killings would be swept off without detailed investigation.

Sports / Spain And Manchester United Goalkeeper, David De Gea Named In Sex Scandal Case by 247NewsUpdateNG: 9:11am On Jun 11, 2016
Spain and Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea has been named by a protected witness in court documents which claim he contracted a prostitute against her will.

The allegations say the United number one arranged for his former Spanish under-21 teammate Iker Muniain and an unnamed player to meet the prostitute for sexual relations against her will.

It was reported that the stunning allegations were part of evidence given to prosecutors in a high profile case that saw porn baron Torbe, real name Ignacio Allende Fernandez.

The x-movie director was arrested and remanded in jail in April after being accused of running a prostitution ring and using under-age girls for his shoots.

The witness, identified as TP3, alleges De Gea arranged the meeting with Torbe on behalf of Muniain and the other player at a five start hotel in Madrid in 2012.

The Spanish investigator are reported to believe the evidence of TP3 and two other women interviewed has a “high degree of credibility.”

The claimed police report, dated June 3, 2015, is alleged to say: “After leaving the woman in the room with the other girl, Torbe told her they had to be with the footballers and would have to agree to everything they wanted and that they would earn more money.

“When she refused, Torbe took her firmly by the arm, without waiting for her reply, and she had to do everything they wanted, which involved them having sex with the new girl and her.

“The new girl and her were both sexually abused by the boys, because if they refused they were physically attacked by both.

“Once the footballers had satiated their sexual desires, they threatened them so that everything that happened in that room never saw the light of day.

“It is worth nothing that neither the witness or the other girl who were in their room earned anything for all the physical and sexual attacks they received with Torbe keeping all the money.”

At another interview, which the force to combat human trafficking in Madrid, the protected witness gave names to the players who participated in the episode of the hotel.

She said that those involved in the were Iker Muniain and a second player, and that the meeting was arranged by De Gea and Torbe.

There is also a claim Torbe filmed the rape of a minor and sent the video of the film to De Gea  and other Athletic players.

De Gea has not been accused of any criminal offence, or been arrested.

Iker Muniain’s agent was quoted as saying: “We have no knowledge of this. No-one from the police or the court have been in touch with us.”

De Gea’s official spokesman declined to make a comment.

Politics / Nigeria Under APC: Change Or Chains? by 247NewsUpdateNG: 8:40am On May 21, 2016
The country, Nigeria is blessed with a political history that outspans her colonization by the British Empire.

With a political history that outdates her invasion, it would be assumed that Nigeria would indeed be the political giant of the continent Africa.

The invasion of the then tribes, which constitutes today's Nigeria, met well constructed and stable pre-colonial structures.

The 1884/85 Berlin conference which saw the then global powerhouses divide the African continent, which was then tagged the Dark continent, was the beginning of the fall of these structures which governed the living of the various tribes then.

Respecting the political prowess of these tribes, the British Empire employed several worthy members as local representatives.
Some members eventually gained international recognition as they were extended political handshakes by the monarchy of the Empire.

Centuries after the invasion of the territories, which were almagameted to form Nigeria, the nation was granted her independence and rights to her political system.

However, tribalism curbed the achievement of solidly unified political structures for several decades.

Also, the military, taking a cue from global politics, seized and annihilated the several political structures, playing the tit-tat game with the nation's politics.
Every game eventually has an end and so after much ado, the military handed over the political rights to a democratic government and (partially) returned to the barracks. The whistle for the real political game was sounded and the match began. The last military Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar  handed over to a former military Head of State-turned-democrat, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo (retd.).

Under the political platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), the era of democracy was hoisted by the retired General.

As a saying goes, Once a soldier, always a soldier, the retired General rode on the lack of understanding of the real stance of democracy by the masses. Also, still recovering from the brute rule of the military government gave the then political system ability to toll an unnoticed governance of civilian dictatorship.

The words of the then Grand Commander of the Federal Republic and his caucus were law and there was hardly any disputation to them.

As a democratic system requires, there had to be the judiciary, legislative and executive. These arms were overrun by factors of nepotism and favouritism which only helped further in the coverup of the civilian dictatorship. Like a hydra, any head which displayed the least epitome of rebellion was cut off and another grown to replace the felled head. This played out in the impeachment of multiple public officers, some of which were then members of the ruling party who had been termed rebels by the power that was.

The nation's constitution gives room for only a two-term tenure for the position of top executive positions. This caused controversies in the then ruling party as there were speculations that an amendment of the constitution, to increase the eligible executive term to three, was in play.
By this time, asides the disunity which this caused in the camp of the ruling party, the masses had come abreast with the laws in the constitution and therefore couldn't be easily waved aside and so implementation of the constitution amendment could not be achieved. Serious turbulence was already been experienced in the ruling party's camp, which saw the exodus of several top members and the formation of multiple political parties.

For several years, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) maintained its status as the ruling party while due to the fight which the opposition parties always put up against themselves.

A saying goes, To fight a common enemy, even enemies have to team up. The opposition parties, taking a cue from this saying, retreated to the board and returned under a unified political platform to battle the ruling party.
This party was given the name All Progressive Congress (APC).

Investigations were then put in place to discover the desires of the electorate. The summary of the electorates' desires was that a change was needed and the then opposition party, APC, took up the mantra of change [……]

Nairaland / General / Between Nigerian Musicians And Bloggers by 247NewsUpdateNG: 8:30pm On Apr 03, 2016
I must say with dismay the way some celebrities handles and addresses issues that has to do with bloggers is not fair.

Whenever the ‘Blogger’ is mentioned in Nigeria, the image of a blood-thirsty vampire is painted in the mind of the masses. A lot of people often time do not take their time to understand functions and uses of these bloggers. They rather dwell on the fake and misconstrued image that is being painted. Well, negativity sells, so we are not surprise when people choose to believe what they hear without investigating.

Because according to the popular saying “ he that pays the piper detects the tune” those saboteur prefer to have stories fatted and polished. So when real bloggers and truth seekers decided to report the events the way it happened. They call S.O.S.

Judging from the last general elections we can all see the role bloggers played in the monitoring of the elections, which helped to curb rigging in immeasurable ways.

Whereby every Nigerian on that fateful day became a blogger, even those who don’t own a website and have no blogging experience decided that they won’t be left out. They put their social networking accounts to use.

Many a time I have heard people referring to bloggers as ‘jobless people who don’t have anything meaningful to do with their lives’. Well you all will agree with me that blogging has given an average Nigerian youth the opportunity to express himself without chauvinism.

Blogging took most youths off the streets, it provided them with the opportunity of earning a meaningful and legitimate livelihood without having to carry arms for politicians. It created a world that only geniuses like them understand; if you don’t come close you will see what you see from afar. So next time before you insult a blogger, think twice.

Now lets talk about the recent rift in the blogging and music industry; the rate at which entertainers are throwing shades at bloggers is very disturbing. The truth of the issue is without the bloggers many of these celebrities won’t be popular as they are today. Most of them will remain unknown and their songs will only be listened to by them and their close relatives.

I have three questions for them (celebrities):
•How many of them pay for online promo?
•How many of them know how to even upload songs on the net?
•How many of them can even sit down and write an article?
I will be waiting for answers!

When an artist releases a track every blogger clamour to have that song to upload on his/her site. Not only do they upload it, they make a follow-up hyping on Twitter and Facebook.
To top it all they wont even get a retweet, mention or followback from that artist.
What is wrong in showing appreciation?
Money no be madness!

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="1024" caption="Photo(L-R): Nigerian music act, Wizkid and top blogger, Linda Ikeji"][/caption]

LindaIkejiBlog (LIB) gets averagely 10k views per day and she is a world class blogger (no doubts).
I don’t get why she is the center of attack?
From Wizkid to Praiz and now Donjazzy?

I remember vividly the first day I read about the ‘Access Mavin Concert’ it was on LindaIkejiBlog(LIB).
From day one she has used her platform to support every artist in this country from the upcoming, to the made, and to the outgoing.
Linda has been there all the way. Attacks on her business or personality is totally unfair not only to her but to all Nigeria Bloggers.

Its high time for musicians to start according bloggers the respect they deserve.

Nairaland / General / Protesting Women Get Beaten Up Mercilessly By Soldiers In Delta by 247NewsUpdateNG: 8:40am On Mar 03, 2016
Reminiscent of the military era, about 10 soldiers flogged and used boots on hundreds of women protesting at Ovre-Eku (Iwevbo) community yesterday, over a land which had been in dispute for years between Edo and Delta states.

The women, numbering over 500, wearing black clothing, had converged at Eku community from where they marched to the disputed land carrying a coffin covered in palm fronds to express their displeasure over alleged sale of the land to an oil company.

Getting to the spot at about 10:45a.m., they were accosted by the soldiers, who ordered the women to leave the site. The women insisted on being addressed by a representative of the company.

Angered by the stand of the women, a senior military officer identified to be the Unit Commander at the site, Lt. E. D. Oworobo, cocked his riffle, threatened to shoot and […]

Nairaland / General / Madonna University Student Passes On Few Months After Graduation by 247NewsUpdateNG: 5:20pm On Feb 25, 2016
Anyone who is familiar with the system used to run the different campuses of Madonna University would understand what it means to each and every student of the institution to, after the stipulated years of acquiring different aspects of knowledge, to successfully graduate.

Several months ago, a gentleman in the person of Prince Obiakarije popularly known as Pinky, after passing through all the hurdles during his five year stay in the university wrote his final examinations and was certified a graduate of the institution.
This victory was however short-lived as Pinky breathed his last on Tuesday, being the 23rd of February 2016, after being diagnosed of an unknown sickness.

Several hearts are inconsolable as he was the only son of his parents. However, it is our earnest prayer that they take heart as they deal with this tumultuous loss.

Rest in peace, Pinky.
