The question doesn't require a calculator. The part you quoted can be answered with a calculator seeing as you don't get it.

BODMAS doesn't say addition before subtraction. BODMAS says addition and subtraction. They have equal precedence.

You can't answer it beginning to end because then you are not following the rules of BODMAS. You will obviously get a different answer.

BODMAS means Brackets, Orders, Division AND multiplication, addition AND subtraction.

its possible to make a mistake while using bodmas for the calculation when you simply forget a simple principle ( any figure multiplied by zero is equal to zero irrespective of the position of the number on the number line; negative or positive)
This is where a number of you guys are getting it wrong.

some of you have also misunderstood a simple math rule; the sign before a number is attached to the number. therefore, the negative sign before 1 in the question affects the figure and can not be treated independently.

even you got it wrong. Following BODMAS principle division would be 1st. 2÷2=1

multiplication next 1×0=0,

addition next 0+1=1,

subtraction last 6-1=5. hence final answer is 5
