agabusta:bonny gas transport(BGT) the LNG subsidiary responsible for this shipyard has been operating from bonny all this while along with other ships from shell oil terminal and other companies. Bonny island is not a spring chicken in the shipping buisness, it's facilities can rival and beat anything lagos has to offer. An island that has been shipping bonny light crude since the 70's. As I said defending this indefensible is grasping for straws. 8 Likes 1 Share |

DaGC: What is the problem with a refinery in Kaduna? Is it not to refine petroleum products for consumption by users in that region? Do you expect tankers to be transporting from the South to the North? Or you think it is safer and cheaper to transport the individual volatile fractions individually after refining in the South? Concerning the belaboured topic, it is the private investment of an individual Nigerian. The NLNG is only an interested investor. The primary investor will site his project wherever he so desires, considering his investment outlook is even beyond the Nigerian market. 4 Likes |

Symphony007: So u want the business owners to limit the attention of their business to only the oil and gas sector in the Niger Delta abi. What will happen in the future if shipping crude and gas is no longer a viable business. You guys should stop all this sentimentalism. These people are thorough business people who wants to invest in the billion dollar range. They have done their studies well and concluded the project will be more viable in Lagos. It will be highly counter productive to try and arm twist them. Are u forgetting that it is only South Africa that has such a big ship yard in Africa. Which means the whole West Africa shipping lanes may resort to using this yard for their repairs and servicing. Shipping business is not all about oil and gas. Shipping business has been thriving before oil came and will continue to thrive even after oil. Lagos has been the most viable business hub decades before crude oil came and sorry, it will continue like that. 9 Likes 1 Share |

i'm from the Niger Delta and seriously when our people stop threatening investors with "shut-down" this or that then maybe we might start attracting serious minded people down here. Do you ever here of such youth restiveness in Lagos? Lagos is always business friendly and as far as i'm concerned Lagos can successfully seceded from this union called Nigeria. NLNG is even too big - look @ Port Harcourt for instance we do not have malls like shoprite and prestigious hotels like 4points. Even I fully understands the risk anyone will take when setting up a business here - especially when one of the criteria is imposition of labour by host communities regardless of whether they are skilled or not. NLNG is free to set-up where-ever they choose. SIMPLE 12 Likes |

agabusta: The issue is not who owns d project but who d beneficiary is. NLNG is the beneficiary of the project hence the ND oil is the primary resources. Let Samsung nd hyundai set up their project in the ND region, it won't stop all business. It's oil, people will cum from wherever they are to do oil business irrespective of the location. Check out diamond business na. Meanwhile, ure also spreading development across the nation. Not just Lagos, Lagos, Abuja Abuja,. |

I agabusta:let's stay on topic! This is about a shipyard where ships that transport liquefied gas will be built, repaired, maintained, etc and it should be built in the nigeria delta. Home of all the gas plants, oil rigs and oil terminals, the federal government of nigeria should invest or seek partners to develop it's ports and not encourage injustice. There is no single argument to justify this. Bonny island even has a better access to the Atlantic than lagos so what is this apart from a calculated attempt to rip off niger delta's of their jobs. It should be noted that all this is happening when the first batch of maritime academy students trained in the jonathan administration revamped maritime academy in warri are to graduate. This will not stand. 3 Likes |

If it is for NLNG activities the shipyard should be constructed at the source of raw materials. It reduces cost and employs those restive youths who can turn out to be militants one day and cause more disruption to the society like the Boko Haram. I don't understand why some Nigerian leaders aren't smart. Haven't they learn a lot from the problems of insurgent? They should always look for ways to avoid ethnic tensions. They are all primitive human beings, barbarians in the jungle who refuse to move forward and live a civilized life. Jeez! I don't like the Nigerian leaders because they are too backward in their ethnicity and religious sh*ts! F**k all of you for refusing to change and embrace civilization. For failing to develop the nation and get the people organized. Here we are letting tribal and trivial things take control of the affairs of the nation. I blame this on the dullard aka 'Baba Go Slow'! 5 Likes |

He said such decision taken by NLNG was seen as a clear case of insensitive and provocative corporate plan, adding that the company has failed to consider the high unemployment rate in the Niger Delta region, especially in Bonny Kingdom. NLNG is not a charity organization. They are there to make profit. What sane man would take an investment worth almost N2b to a location where youth restiveness is rife? Let us all work together to make our communities safe enough to attract and retain investors. 1 Like |
