Life's easy but we have decidedly made it the opposite. Life's challenging also but we have added some more to it. Ever since I started minding my own business, I've fared better and happier. People hardly mind their businesses. And the women folks seem to be the worst sufferers of such intrusion into their lives. And it sickens me to no end.

I'm yet to see the agreement the society made to have it skewed against the women. I have NO business with how people live their lives. The woken folks are treated like they owe society some debts, while men live like society owes them everything.

The women can't live their lives because they're women. In fact, the worst targeted are the SINGLES. For instance, they can't live alone because society thinks they are prostitutes. They are expected to have married before 25, like marriage is the only determining factor for one to be considered successful OR its required to enter the sanctuaries of Heaven. For the records, marriage ends HERE. It doesn't go beyond the grave, and one doesn't need to be married to be happy. Majority of the depressed people are married folks. Marriage doesn't hide our flaws; it simply amplifies and accentuate it.

Even just a few weeks into their marriages, whether or not the man is fertile, the women are expected to be pregnant, and society keeps looking at their tummies for visible signs of pregnancy. These women just can't be allowed to live their lives. Whether or not the couple agreed they intend to have kids later, society believes the women are responsible for the visible absence of kids.

The single lady isn't expected to have a car because it will drive away suitors. See thinking! So she should keep the car parked somewhere away from public glare because she's looking for one suitor. Madness.

She isn't expected to earn more than her husband because she's adjudged to become uncontrollable and bossy back home. She must earn less than husband. Was marriage designed to kill their destinies? Was it designed to enable both parties achieve their purpose in life? Should it be an albatross to their progress? I doubt that.

She's not expected to have a washing machine in the home because society believes it will make her lazy. Hence she must work herself to the bones in a demonic attempt to appear hardworking to society. Madness.

I can go on and on. It's endless. It's just crazy. Women should be allowed to live their lives. OR the women themselves must ensure they live their lives, not minding what the society says. The consequences of our actions and decisions are borne by us, not the society.

There's nothing wrong with the women unmarried at 30. There's nothing wrong if a woman isn't pregnant a few months into a marriage.

To all those great women who have chosen to courageously live their lives away from the unwritten rules of the society, I salute you all.

This piece is in response to a friend's frustration from her parents because at 28 and unmarried, her parents have become her own worst enemies.

Let's stop giving our women unrealistic and extremely selfish expectations. Let them be.

The society is invisible or at least to me. No one is really going to use a broom and shove a husband down your throat. All the people do is look and gossip and truthfully, ain't nobody died from being looked at or gossiped about.

The desperation felt these days mostly comes from within sef... "my mates are getting married and I'm still here", "is it that I'm not good enough", "why can't I find someone, is something wrong with me?" and so on.

Just live your life, most importantly, live meaningfully. Try to achieve your goals and dreams in life. If anyone gives you a hard time about anything, move away coz like they said, those who matter don't care and those who care don't matter.

hmm, I have a friend whose mum made it a duty to always remind her daily of how her work colleague daughters were getting married and wanted her to do same. I told her never to rush until she was convinced it was what she wanted (the kind of man).

She took her time and today she's enjoying it.
